Funny considering that none of the girls were going to be the Bachette since it is Emily. I wonder how they feel about it now?

It sounds from their post-elimination interviews like some of them think it could be an option for them. It's a year away, though; they have another crew of women from which to select a Bette once one of Emily's guys is named lead. I think that none of this season's girls are being considered to be Bette though a few will undoubtedly show up on BP3.

TPTB always have multiple people in mind during the season who they think is a ocntender to be the next potential Bachelor or Bachelorette. They let them know of that potential but, they also know it's not a guarantee. Hence, all of them when the season is airing mentioning in post-elimination interviews that they would be willing to be the Bachelorette or their friends/family setting up immediate facebook fan pages for them to be the Bachelorette. It's also why they float the F4-F6 at recruiting events and mention them as the next potential bachelor/ette to get the reaction of who suitors would most be interested in being a contestant for. Even with Emily being chosen, the bachelorettes know they still have potential to th eBachelorette even if it's not directly after their season if they don't have favorites in the prior season, think bringin g Brad back for second chance because of not getting Chris L as Bachelor.
I don't consider it as manipulation or an excuse for people's actions on the show. You are responsible for your own actions and reactions to what is offered to you and goes on during the show. IMO

Emily Maynard Is Doing ‘The Bachelorette’ For All The Wrong Reasons
http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2012/03/21/emily-maynard-bachelorette-secrets/
Obviously, they didn't want Courtney to feel alone, or for Emily to feel left out with the smear jobs.
With "friends" like these, who needs enemies? :bigsigh: The other option is what I believe with 3/4 of the Courtney stuff: it is made up and conveniently tagged with "insider" or "friend" to make it sound more valid.

Emily Maynard Is Doing ‘The Bachelorette’ For All The Wrong Reasons
Fan favorite Emily Maynard claims she’s looking for love on ‘The Bachelorette,’ but insiders reveal that the blonde bombshell has ulterior motives.
Emily Maynard has remained a household name since her very public courtship, and subsequent breakup, with Bachelor Brad Womack, so it didn’t come as a surprise to fans of the franchise when she was chosen to be the new Bachelorette. But Emily had her doubts. In July, the 26-year-old single mother tweeted, “I don’t want to be the Bachelorette,” claiming that she didn’t want to uproot her daughter, Ricki, from their home in Charlotte, NC. “She thought it would bring too much attention to her daughter,” a friend of Emily’s told In Touch. “She said she just cared about being a good mom and didn’t want cameras following her daughter around.”
Sensing the fans disappointment, ABC bent over backwards to accomodate Emily and arranged to have the filming take place in her hometown — plus, they sweetened the deal with a $250,000 paycheck. “That’s a lot of money,” added her friend.
Despite Emily’s protests that she wanted to keep Ricki as far away from the cameras as possible, a different insider adds that the fame-hungry blonde has wasted no time putting her six-year-old in the public eye. In fact, her very first one-on-one date with contestant Ryan Bowers, 31, featured a trip to Ricki’s soccer game. “The game was at Ricki’s elementary school, and they filmed the girls practicing,” the insider said. “Emily and Ryan stood on the sidelines with the other parents.”
The only one with Ricki’s best interests at heart are the parents of Emily’s deceased ex-boyfriend, Ricky Hendrick. “They are very close to Ricki and feel they should have a say in terms of what Emily involves her in,” the friend explained. However, Emily isn’t interested in their opinions — the lure of a massive ring, lavish digs, and national fame has taken control. “She’s a wannabe trophy wife and a gold digger,” added the friend. “That’s all she really cares about.”
What do you think think about Emily’s decision to put her daughter in the public eye? Do you think she’s doing The Bachelorette for all the wrong reasons?

You see, I don't think they are true sources - not what we call a " source". Somebody said those things obviously, but it could be somebody in the magazine office speculating to come up with a "hot" story. They probably have a fact or two here and there, and then they make up the rest.
Maybe she is making $250K. They wanted her badly enough, so maybe they did fork over that kind of money. Perhaps that is a fact that the writer managed to find out.
Golddigger? I don't think so. Emily was in NYC hobnobbing with Ashley and Ali. She saw Ashley and JP, and she knew that Ali had a good thing with Roberto. Emily also was around Michelle and Graham, I believe. In my opinion, Emily decided it was possible to find herself someone like one of those guys if she became the Bachelorette. That is why I personally think she decided to give this a go.
She also made all kinds of arrangements for her child, so it is not as though she suddenly became a negligent parent this time around in order to become the Bachelorette.

Great post Bloomers! I think they would quote the devil as a friend if he said so. ITA with everything here! I think her influence came from seeing the media coverage of Ash and JP but also being around Michelle and Graham. I am sure she asked Michelle's advice as well and told her to go for it because had she not done BP she wouldn't have met Graham. Emily probably figured as long as her head is on straight only good can come from it.
