It must be just me, but I don't think Emily looks a thing like Holly Madison. Also, in 2012 it's quite the norm of women having babies without being married...
I wouldn't put Em in the "unwed" teen mom category ... the father of her child died before she knew she was pregnant. Somewhat different than getting pregnant and remaining unwed.
Thank you. I should have made myself plainer. I don't see Emily as this poor unwed mother at all, but kinda what I did mean was look around Hollywood, women don't necessarily think they have to be married these days to have babies. LOL .

Thank you Gina! I totally agree.
It was no secret that I liked Emily more than Ashley but that was due to Ashley's edit. We got to see more of Ashley's personality as she went through her season. Now I just hope that Emily finds her guy just like Ash seems to have.

Nerd alert! Pew Research Foundation issued a report on the state of matrimony in America. Here are some compelling findings:
- In 2010, only 51% of Americans age 18 or older were married. In 1960, 72 % of that same group were married.
- Roughly 4 of every 10 Americans believe that marriage is becoming obsolete, brought on by shifting social constructs and mores, including the women's movement.
- More than one half of women under age 30 give birth as single women.
- College-educated individuals (69%) are more likely to marry, and to marry another college-educated person, than those without any post-secondary education.
- College-educated women are more likely to marry before the age of 60 (29%) than their 1960s counterparts (8%). They marry later, stay married longer without divorce, and report higher marital satisfaction.
- In 1970, men married fewer women with college degrees (37%) than in 2007 when 71% of men married a woman also with a college degree. (That speaks to the increasing number of women who are college-educated, which increases the odds of marrying a college-educated woman.)
Overall, marriage, where in the past became a leg up the social status ladder for a women, no longer functions in that vein. Men and women now tend to seek out a partner of the same economic status, which is indicative of that person's ability to obtain and retain a job as they display economic practicality. Unfortunately, women or men of lower social status tend to also choose, or by virtue of elimination, people of equal socioeconomic backgrounds; thus, perpetuating the cycle of exposure to limited resources for social advancements. Equally, independent women often have a child without a spouse.
As it pertains to Emily, whether she earned it or it was given to her, Emily sits in a higher socioeconomic bracket without a post-secondary education than your college-educated female in a well-paying field. Whether she wants to accumulate her own income beyond the Hendricks' support, that remains to be seen, but it does seem to be some of the motivation behind this season.
At the moment, I'm not sure that the guys' wealth will factor into Emily's decision. It may just because she wants to maintain a certain lifestyle, but all of these guys must realize what they're getting into.

Me too LoveMe! I am just going to sit back and enjoy this season. Once it starts I might try to avoid the spoilers like the old days ... unless I hear something then will share here (of course!)
I cannot even try to explain it but Emily was a favorite of mine from the beginning. :shy: I have only had a few favorites from all these seasons ~ Shannon (Season 1), Gwen (love her!), Bevin (hated the edit but loved her spunk), Ali (do not care if she is single, engaged, married or standing upside down), and Emily. Yes, I tend to favor blondes but all very different women.
As with so many things, there is the story told, and there is the story itself.

The producers being excited over Emily has less to do with Emily's looks and more to do with her ability to give them a good show. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they think she's gorgeous and were conveying the men's reactions to her physically, which is part of what you do when your conveying what your observing to people who can't see it. They tweeted similar things about the educated, "Doctor of Dentistry", Ashley's looks on Rose ceremony nights, BTW. However, looks alone don't make you able to engage and hold rapt men's attention long-term or know how to handle the duties of rangling 25 men as the bachelorette. Being college educated with varying degrees, cultured & well traveled doesn't guarantee those abilities either. This has been proven with past bachelorettes and on the other side of the coin bachelors in the past, though I won't name names. Fleiss and Co. know Emily on a personal basis. They know the person beyond the pretty face and more importantly see the unedited view of who and what's in front of them. They see a woman who is personable, engaging, and able to handle these 25 men and the duties of being the lead so far with aplomb. She kept the attention of these 25 men and the attention & excitement for the upcoming season of a jaded production crew (male& female) who have seen it all, know all the behind-the-scenes secrets unedited, and seen many "purty" blonde & non-blonde faces. In the end for Fleiss it's all about will you bring him a good show with your ability to handle the lead duties and keep the contestants and future viewers interest. IMO
doantam wrote:EMily is gonna get a really good edit, which is not fair to all other the leads. Looks like TPTB s compromising a lot for her: casting specific guys for her, moving filming to Charlotte, allowing her to tweet during filming (st that s never been done b4). TPTB may have promised her to make America fall in love with her.
This isn't an issue of fairness between leads. TPTB have made concessions, given perks, and input restrictions with all the leads. They treat things on a case by case basis with each individual lead based on their circumstances and certain things change and evolve naturally over time with the longevity of the show. It used to be no one was allowed to tweet, have a facebook up, have phones, computers, etc. in the beginning and that changed over time. They tweeted during ashley's season, with Chris tweeting pics of him and ashley during filming of her season and stuff. Travis got concessions on not doing much media because he was a doctor and perks regarding med school loans. Jason got concessions regarding visits with his child and other communication because he was a father. Jillian ot concesssions and perks because she was from Canada so they spent alot of time there. Ben got concessions with filiming where he lived versus just in LA. They also tweeted during Ben's season and FRC wehn it was being filmed. Millsy and Chris have always tweeted during filming to varying degrees with diffferent leads. Fleiss has only just gotten into tweeting heavily 'cause he only just not too long ago joined twitter. Otherwise he would have been tweeting moreso with other leads. Jen got to see the audition videos of some of the guys before they were cast and pick some of the ones she wanted to be there on M&G nite. All the leads get perks and things that fit the storyline of their life, their occupations, and the timing of when they were cast as the lead.
Alot of the perks you see with Emily right now, and why some ar enot use dto it and don't remember it, is because she is the first Bachelorette picked in along time where it was known ahead of time while casting was still going on that she was the lead. How they treat a lead when it's known ahead of time versus a lead being picked/made known to the public only awhile after the previous season finale is very different. When the lead is not known ahead of time, the casting, planning of the season (dates, season location, trips), etc. are planned and done before the lead casting decision is made and there are 3-5 people in the running. They also don't start publicising and utilizing the lead to publicise the season 'til the season is ready to air because they are keepin who the lead is a secret. However, when the lead is known from the start they publicise from the start to get peole excited about the season and draw in viewership. They have more time for the lead to make appearances or tape stuff before the have to rush into filming the show.

I don't think Emily looks like Holly Madison either, facially. People see platinum blonde, a nice body, add in the fact that the 2 happened to randomly run into each other in Vegas and take a fan pic together and they automatically associate her to resembling Holly, ex of Hugh Hefner(The King of platinum blonde girlfriends). Much the same way some people equate being blonde or not having attended college with being dumb or not very intelligent. It's simply not the truth in most cases.

After last season, a true and genuine love connection is more than needed! Besides that, I really, really want to see the girl behind the looks! To quote our Ben "to see some depth' to Emily besides the superficial. Yes she is gorgeous with a 'sweet' personna, which the guys are going to latch onto...but that does not make for a long-term relationship! Loved Ashley because she encompassed looks, personality, talent and brains. The latter is more attractive in my mind. We'll see...chosing to be optomistic and not cynical!
