Yes, in 2012, I think that sends quite some message. As I said, the guys will be fun to watch.
That upsets me. Yes, Emily is pretty, but not any more so than Ashley the Doctor of Dentistry is. Sometimes life throws curl balls at you, doesn't make you less deserving or less intelligent. Things in life happen and priorities change.

We watched this Doctor of Dentistry battle it out with 24 other women for the opportunity to date a bar owner 14 years older than her on a scripted reality tv show. She was so determined to be the last one standing, she was willing to take strip down to seashells for a SI photo shoot on a public beach. When she didn't win this guy, she decided to do it again with 25 guys - many of whom weren't attracted to her in the least. We watched this future DDS be humiliated by men making ugly remarks about the small chest she famously bared on her first stab at reality tv dating. And so on and so forth.
I'm delighted that Ashley found a guy that by all accounts seems to be a good guy and wish them every happiness. I don't see that her education makes her "better" than any of the Bachelorettes that came before her or that will follow her. The fact that Ashley would appear on this show not once, but twice certainly sends an interesting message.

I think Ashley finding the man she is going to marry and be the daddy to her kids sends the bigger message to Emily. I don't see the need to criticize either Emily or Ashley. I hope Emily's journey for love turns out as good as Ashley's and Em finds her J.P. jmo

I know one of the tabloids started the rumor that Ashley got paid a pittance for her season, but it's not true. She got paid commensurate with all the Bachelorettes that came before her. Just wanted to clear up that misconception.Shelby wrote:I wonder how much she negotiated $$ for her season. sjcaligurl, none of this is against you specifically
Call me crazy but this whole show is a little out of step with the times -
It condones cheating on the one you "love" with up to 29 other people, lying by omission, a lot of drama, a complete removal from reality, etc, culminating in an engagement after a total of probably one full day together... all things you definitely don't want in a relationship. The difference is we've taken all those things for granted by virtue of the show's format, so it doesn't seem that odd to us anymore. To be honest, Ashley the DMD would have had more options IRL than the single mother with major baggage. Had it not been Ricky HENDRICKS, NASCAR royalty, and EMILY MAYNARD the new BACHELORETTE, any guy would listen to her story and probably run, if not take a few good steps back.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't have a problem with her on Brad's season though I unabashedly preferred Chantal, and now after Ben's season almost anyone would have made me :Woah-hoo: :Woah-hoo: If the notoriety that Emily has gained makes her more likely to find a guy who's able to accommodate her and her lifestyle and her daughter, then more power to her - I just don't think this show is a commentary on our current societal mores, beyond the fact that we just love reality TV
LOL She wasn't exactly Po' White Trash before she met Ricky Hendricks...
No, sounds like daddy took care of her pretty good before hand. She knew to pick a team owner instead of someone in the pit crew. LOL!

EMily is gonna get a really good edit, which is not fair to all other the leads. Looks like TPTB s compromising a lot for her: casting specific guys for her, moving filming to Charlotte, allowing her to tweet during filming (st that s never been done b4). TPTB may have promised her to make America fall in love with her.

It must be just me, but I don't think Emily looks a thing like Holly Madison. Also, in 2012 it's quite the norm of women having babies without being married...

ok. how do you know that please? just curious, one way or the other
"Reality television frequently portrays a modified (...) day-to-day life, at times utilizing sensationalism to attract audience viewers and increase advertising revenue. Participants are often placed in exotic locations or abnormal situations, and are often persuaded to act in specific scripted ways by off-screen "story editors" or "segment television producers" with the portrayal of events and speech manipulated and contrived to create an illusion of reality through direction and post-production editing techniques." ~ Wikipedia |

I wouldn't put Em in the "unwed" teen mom category ... the father of her child died before she knew she was pregnant. Somewhat different than getting pregnant and remaining unwed.
