ABC's The Bachelorette is filming in Charlotte and I just had to be a part of it. Check out our 100th post on the blog! http://pureappiness.blogspot.com/2012/03/will-you-accept-this-rose.html

Will You Accept This Rose?

Happy 100th Blog Post! Jeremy and I wanted to do something special for the 100th post but nothing unique came to mind (guess you'll have to wait for the 200th post now). Instead, you'll get to read about my spur of the moment decision to be a part of ABC's reality TV show, The Bachelorette!

It seems that North Carolina has been quite popular for filming movies and TV shows lately (The Hunger Games, Iron Man 3, etc.) . The Bachelorette can now be added to that list as the cast and crew have decided to cater to Emily Maynard's (and my) current hometown, Charlotte, North Carolina. The past few weeks I've heard a buzz around town about where the suitor's mansion is located, helicopters hovering over Ballantyne and lights and film crews spotted in a gated neighborhood. I shamefully admit that it all excites me as I've been sucked onto the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor Pad bandwagon for the past 3 years.

Charlotte's NC Music Factory tweeted early last week that an ABC reality show would be taping and that it would be open to the public. I brushed it off at first but once I got to thinking about it, I thought it would be pretty cool to be on the other side of things. Ya know, see how production of a reality TV show actually works (I'm kind of a reality show junkie).

I told my friend, Elyse, about the news and once she dug up some more information, we decided to give it a go and head into Uptown Charlotte for the evening. We rushed to the NC Music Factory not knowing how many people would be there waiting for the couple to arrive. To our surprise, we were some of the first people there. Through waiting, rain, sound check for Gloriana (the band that was doing a surprise performance), and more waiting...Emily and her date (which we're thinking is one of the first ones picked) finally arrived in style! They drove up, walked the red carpet, and headed into the nearby restaurant, Osso, for dinner. You would have thought Jason Mraz, I mean Brad Pitt, had arrived (haha, see what I did there?). With the combination of camera flashes, people shouting, cameras recording and the red carpet, it definitely felt like Hollywood. We were then told by production that the couple would be back out in one hour for the surprise concert by country band, Gloriana.

One hour goes by.

Another 30 minutes goes by.

A sudden downpour of rain appears.

My hair gets super frizzy.

Two hours total go by.

After two hours of waiting in the rain with my hair getting frizzier by the second, Emily and her date (with a rose might I add) made their appearance and were lead to see the surprise for the night, the band Gloriana. They stood together on a raised platform (a little awkward at first but they finally warmed up) and danced to "(Kissed You) Goodnight" twice for filming purposes I assume, "Wild at Heart", and "Carolina Rose"(see the irony in that one?). Emily re-pinned the rose on the bachelor, toasted with champagne and they left to finish their date at the club, Butter. (I think that's what they did at least. I actually have no idea.)

Elyse and I decided to stick around for a few more camera angles the camera crew wanted of the crowd. Who knows, maybe my frizzball self will end up on national television this coming May when the season debuts! We also were able to swipe the champagne bottle (which was cheap champagne by the way) and took a few pictures with it! Please hold all snickers and keep them to yourself :)

It's not every Friday evening you get a chance to be on a hit reality show. I figured why not give it a shot...The Bachelor/Bachelorette will most likely never be filmed in my hometown ever again. I had to take advantage of the situation!!! It ended up being a fun night with a great friend and a free concert! Can't go wrong with that!

The top middle pictures were taken by Elyse. The rest were taken by moi on my good ol' iPhone.

Living it up with 'The Bachelorette'

By CRISTINA WILSON AND MEGHAN COOKE — The Charlotte Observer

Posted: 4:00am on Mar 22, 2012; Modified: 5:11pm on Mar 22, 2012

I certainly had a weekend filled with events related to "The Bachelorette" filming in Charlotte, N.C., and I couldn't have been happier about it. I am a fan of the "Bachelor/Bachelorette" shows, and Emily Maynard is such a sweetheart that we are thrilled to have this lovely lady repping the Queen City!

On Friday night, I joined other reality TV and country fans for the concert by country-music band Gloriana, a one-on-one date for Maynard, the 26-year-old single mom, and her unnamed suitor.

The two pulled up in a gorgeous car (he drove, what a gentleman!) and went to Osso for a lengthy dinner as we anxiously awaited the surprise concert. There was some rain involved, but no one in the crowd let that quell the excitement. When they came back out to the courtyard area at NC Music Factory, Emily introduced her date to her favorite band, and they serenaded the couple's first dance together. Emily's suitor toasted the lady of the hour: "to the most beautiful woman in Charlotte," and they enjoyed a glass of champagne (what would a "Bachelorette" date be without champagne?) before departing.

This chica must be tired! The next day the men and the bachelorette were up rehearsing for their 4 p.m. fundraiser performance at Booth Playhouse. I can't reveal too much, but there were Muppets involved (the real ones!), lots of hunks and a healthy dose of laughter and sing-alongs. And Maynard took "The Bachelorette" to new heights Tuesday night, scaling the side of the Mint Museum Uptown on a date with a suitor.

Maynard wearing a white tank top, black leggings and brown boots and her date were strapped into harnesses and given helmets with small cameras attached.

Maynard could be heard saying that she was "so excited" before they began their ascent.

About halfway up the five-story building, the pair gave each other a high five. Her date waved to those below, prompting cheers.

What will I take from the weekend? We already knew Emily was sweet and of course gorgeous. But even with a powerful spotlight on her, this future Carolina bride shows an amazing amount of grace and poise. When the crowds shout, "Good luck, Emily!" and "We love you," she actually says thank you.

Maynard was once engaged to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, the son of businessman and team owner Rick Hendrick who died in a 2004 plane crash while she was pregnant with their child.

Maynard won "The Bachelor" last year when Brad Womack proposed to her, but the couple split in June. In January, she was named the new "Bachelorette."

The show is filming the forthcoming season in a six-bedroom, 8.5-bath European-style mansion in Charlotte rather than its usual California location because Maynard didn't want to uproot her 6-year-old daughter for the filming, according to reports. "The Bachelorette" will premiere on May 14.

With her daughter's best interest at heart, she's brought this crazy roller coaster to her town and is allowing it to benefit the Charlotte economy and charities that are dear to her heart. The fact that she's sharing this experience with all of us really speaks to her generosity and spirit.

You may see me in an episode in this season, cheering her on like the total fan that I am. Carolina Bride wishes her all the luck in the world - we hope she finds the man of her dreams! ?

And we love you too, Chris Harrison!

The Bachelorette Season 8 SPOILERS Emily Maynard : Who Gets Sent Home And A Whole Lot More!

Mar - 22

25-year old Emily Maynard and all round darling of The Bachelor franchise, is to be the new star of The Bachelorette season 8. So what can we expect from this show?

Emily is no stranger to the ABC franchise. She fell in love with Bachelor Brad Womack and won the final rose in season 15. Brad proposed to her and gave her a $90,000.00 ring (the most expensive in Bachelor history). Emily accepted the proposal but things soon went wrong between the two of them. Brad blamed himself but who knows?

Emily’s personal story is one filed with triumph over tragedy. She lost her first fiancé, professional NASCAR racer Ricky Hendrick, in a plane crash; the couple had been dating since they were 15 years old. Six months before Hendrick died, he proposed to Emily and just a few days after his death, Emily found out that she was pregnant with her daughter Ricky, who is now 6 years old.

Emily’s first priority has always been her daughter and that has not changed. In season eight Emily insisted that ABC move the entire production of the show to North Carolina in order to not disrupt Ricki’s home environment. Emily must have a lot of pull over at ABC because they agreed and filming began last week.

Now come The Bachelorette SPOILERS for Emily Maynard’s season so if you don’t want to find out what happens, then stop reading right now. Only keep on reading if you want to know which Bachelor returns, about the group dates, seven of the men and who the are, the first elimination and more…

Bentley Williams will return! Remember him? He was a contestant on Ashley Hebert’s seventh season of The Bachelorette when she pulled him aside during a group date to discuss how former Bachelor villain, Michelle Money told her that Bentley was only on the show to promote himself and his business. Bentley stormed off, claiming that he missed his daughter too much to say. He later revealed that his exit was more because he was disappointed that in season seven Emily Maynard was not the new Bachelorette. Woohoooo! So now she is, will sparks fly? Will he have gotten over missing his daughter so much (no I don’t think that’s why he left, either, but since it was his excuse… well, she still exists, right?)

On to some spoilers of The Bachelorette group dates. One of Emily’s dates will be at a winery in the Charlotte area, the only region on earth where you’ll find every major type of grape grown in the world. Another group date will be at the Booth Playhouse in uptown Charlotte in which all the proceeds will benefit the Levine Children’s Hospital, a place where Emily has done volunteer work in the past and the Muppets will be in attendance.

We can also tell you details of seven of the guys who will be competing for Emily Maynard’s affections, courtesy of Celebrity Dirty Laundry.

1. Ryan Bowers, a gym owner in Georgia; he’s a muscle guy who has played a lot of football.

2. Tony DeSarro, a Senior Associate at KPMG Forensic Technology Services in Georgia; he likes music and has even recorded a few songs.

3. Joel Gilson, a Medical Sales Rep for Stryker from Iowa; he has also played a lot of football.

4. Doug Clerget, Vice President at Kidder Matthews in Washington; he’s a father to an 11 year old son named Austin.

5. Travis Pope, an Account Executive for the Clarion Ledger newspaper in Mississippi; he was previously engaged to Lauren Jones, CEO of Lauren Jones Footwear and she and Travis were pitching a reality show, Chasin’ Dreams with Lauren and Travis, before they split.

6. Jef Holm, a young entrepreneur from Utah.

7. Aaron Martell, really good looking guy from Sydney, Nova Scotia.

So now you know about eight of the guys including Bentley. It’s soon to be nine but you don’t have to worry too much about remembering this next guy because the first person sent home, apparently even before Emily meets him, is actor and model, Ben Smith. He was definitely there ready to be cast, but for some reason, he was let go. Apparently he was not even told why, so there has to be some story there.

Rumour has it that Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette will premiere on May 14th, 2012 in her hometown of Charlotte, NC. Of course, we’ll give you all the details as and when we know them.

‘Bachelorette’ Emily Maynard Isn’t a ‘Gold-Digging Wanna-Be Trophy Wife’

Emily Maynard is such a lovely, likable Southern belle of a woman. There can't be a soul out there who has a problem with her, right? Of course you're wrong! Of course there's someone out there who doesn't like Emily Maynard. Because they're jealous! And don't look at me here. Look at her "friend" who called her a gold-digging wanna-be trophy wife. Oh, and who then insinuated that Maynard, who's the new Bachelorette, doesn't have daughter Ricki's best interests in mind. Yowza!

This "friend" of Emily's recently talked to In Touch magazine and said that -- and I quote: "She’s a wannabe trophy wife and a gold digger. That’s all she really cares about.” This person then regaled a story about one of Emily's recent "dates" for the show in which Ricki's elementary school soccer game was filmed in its entirety. Oh, the horror!

Look, talking trash about your supposed friends isn't cool. But talking trash about your supposed friends to a tabloid -- and adding in a few indirect jabs about the kind of parent they are -- damn, that's low.

I don't know Emily personally, obvs, but she certainly doesn't strike me as a "gold digger" or "wanna-be trophy wife." I think lots of women who go on these shows could be classified that way, but I wouldn't throw Emily into that mix. She's a single mom who worked as a hospital event planner -- and whose husband died. Sheesh. Cut the lady some slack.

I think this mystery person is just jealous of Emily. Like lots of people are jealous of Emily. She's a beautiful woman, tons of men are vying for her attention, and hey guess what -- now she's famous. That always brings out the worst in "friends," doesn't it?

Do you think Emily's intentions are legit?

Popular dating show to film here

FRIDAY, MARCH 23: Network TV show The Bachelorette is expected to film part of its next season in Bermuda.

Production crews are currently on-island, scouting locations.

The show is a spin-off from competitive dating reality show The Bachelor and shows 25 men vying for the affection of one woman.

Last season’s finale drew more than eight million viewers.

The popular ABC show announced in January that its bachelorette for the eighth season is 26-year-old single mother Emily Maynard.

She won The Bachelor last year when Brad Womack proposed to her, but the couple split in June.

Maynard, a fan favourite, will be the first single mom bachelorette and will choose one of 25 men to spend her life with.

The crew for the show arrived in Bermuda on Tuesday and Wednesday and are staying at Rosewood Tucker’s Point.

The cast is expected to fly in over the weekend.

Sources have told the Bermuda Sun a rose ceremony will take place at a lavish property on the island with the cast also staying at Tucker’s Point.

They will participate in various water activities around the island during the course of filming.

Charlotte

The whole team is expected to be in Bermuda until at least next Friday.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the show is filming most of the forthcoming season in a six-bedroom, 8.5-bath European-style mansion in Charlotte rather than its usual California location because Maynard didn’t want to uproot her 6-year-old daughter for the filming.

NASCAR

She was engaged to NASCAR racer Rick Hendrick who died in 2004 in a plane crash when Maynard was pregnant with their daughter.

The show was filming in Charlotte this week as Maynard was spotted on dates.

The Bachelorette premieres on May 14 on ABC.

We reached out to the Department of Tourism yesterday but received no response by press time.

Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert is scheduled to hold a press conference on ‘tourism initiatives’ today, but the specific topic was not disclosed.

Luke Bryan, Gloriana to Appear on Upcoming Season of ‘The Bachelorette’

It seems the new “Bachelorette,” Emily Maynard, is quite the country music fan.

According to WCNC.com, Maynard and two of her suitors will enjoy private concerts from two of country music’s hottest stars, Luke Bryan and Gloriana, on the upcoming season of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”

On Friday March 16, Gloriana performed a private concert for Emily’s first one-on-one date of the season. The pair reportedly dined at the new Osso Restaurant & Lounge in Charlotte, NC then went to N.C. Music Factory for the trio’s performance.

A few days later, Emily and another one of her suitors took their relationship to new heights by scaling the side of the Mint Museum Uptown. After the exciting date, the couple enjoyed a rooftop dinner followed by a private performance from country music superstar Luke Bryan. Luke reportedly performed his hit single “Do I” as well as his current single “Drunk On You” several times while camera captured shots of Emily and her date dancing along to the music.

Season 8 of “The Bachelorette” premieres May 14 on ABC. Specific airdates for the episodes featuring Luke and Gloriana have not been released.

'Bachelorette' Season 8 Spoiler Roundup: Of Emily Maynard's Magical Dates with Men and Muppets

Monday, March 26, 2012

Are you the type of Bachelorette fan who likes to watch the romantic magic and muscled male specimens revealed before your very eyes? Well then you best stop reading now, because this article contains three weeks worth of spoilers on Emily Maynard's journey from lonely single mom to nationally adored MILF and (maybe?) happy bride-to-be. You've been alerted.

You ravenous spoiler hounds have probably already read some of these details -- but not all in one place, and not with my commentary. For the rest of us, let's see what we can see about Emily Maynard's stint as the newest Bachelorette, starting with the guys who aspire to be the Ken to her Barbie...

THE MEN:

Reality Steve has photos and details for six Bachelorette contestants, some of whom seem like real keepers, such as:

Ryan, who owns a gym in Georgia and played a lot of football. Hunky.
Aaron, a CUTE science teacher in California. Likes kids, likes learning, likes beer ... what's not to like?

But already some of these guys are coming off as real d-bags and creepos, like:

Travis, who apparently once tried to pitch a reality show with his ex-fiance called "Chasin' Dreams with Lauren and Travis." HAHAHAHA. No, Travis. No.
Kalon, who has the stupid first name of a villain in a Lifetime Original Movie, and is described as "a model, Houston socialite, and basically this season's male version of Erica Rose," so he is almost definitely a spoiled, egomaniacal nightmare whose only true love is for attention. Can't wait.
Jef, who owns a charitable bottled water company, so I'm tempted to forgive that missing F that should be in his name. Maybe he donated it to charity? But then I saw this thing about how a girl "broke his heart" so Jef tore her bed apart? But he was smiling while he did it? And also looks a little too much like The Weatherman? Oh, no. Too many questions. And too few F's where they should be.

Wetpaint also has scoop on a couple other contestants: One named Chris, a sales manager in Chicago, and another named Doug, a realtor, philanthropist and father from Tacoma.

THE FIRST NIGHT (March 14):

Bachelor producer Robert Mills and creator Mike Fleiss were tweeting during Emily's first night of filming at the mansion that the crew rented in North Carolina, and shared these details about Emily's initial cocktail party with her 25 suitors. Here are the highlights from their all-night tweet-a-thon:

"Emily looks stunning. Her dress is gold." - Robert Mills
"There is an homage to Marty McFly. I am DYING for you all to see it!!"- Mills
"It feels like the circus has come to town her. 50 locals have been trying to get into where we are." - Mills
"Emily just told one of the guys he walks like he's on a runway. Not sure I'd want to hear that..." - Mike Fleiss
"Emily Maynard just said "I believe in love and fabulous shoes'" - Mills
"Emily just spoke a little Spanish to a guy from limo #2. Not sure what she said, but she sure looked cute!" - Fleiss
"One of the guys just said "This is just like 'Rudy'". Um, in what way??" - Mills
"Emily just walked into the party. The guys are blinded by beauty..." - Fleiss
"The real-life version of The Vow is unfolding right before our eyes..." - Fleiss
"Bold move by one of the guys. Slightly cringe-inducing, but Emily seemed to dig it..." - Fleiss
"Prediction: no first kiss for Emily til end of ep. 2, at the earliest..." - Fleiss
"Night One was a big success. Emily Maynard is one happy bachelorette! Thank you, #Bachelornation!!!" - Fleiss

Emily's first date of the season went to muscled gym owner Ryan Bowers. Emily and Ryan shared an intimate dinner (if you don't count the crowd gathered outside to take photos of them) at Osso Restaurant, and a romantic dance in front of a rowdy and admiring crowd at a concert by country-music band Gloriana at the N.C. Music Factory. Ryan clearly had a rose on his lapel. The camera-wielding women in the crowd can be heard saying of Ryan, "I'd tap that" and "If she don't choose you, I'll choose you." Good on ya, sisters.

FIRST GROUP DATE:

The very next night, Emily took 13 men to the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in uptown Charlotte for a fun play-date with none other than the Muppets! Reality Steve collected details from audience members at the performance, and pieced together this account of the group date (highlights below):

There were 13 total guys on the date, but three didn't perform in any of the acts.
Act 1: "Five guys in tuxedos dancing with Emily and Miss Piggy."
Act 2: Two guys did a stand-up routine with Fozzy Bear ("apparently was not very funny," says RS).
Act 3: Kermit the Frog and Emily had a one-on-one, until Miss Piggy joined in when Emily went to kiss Kermit. Then they they brought Emily's daughter Ricki up on stage to meet Kermit and the three of them sang "Rainbow Connection."
Act 4: "Live with Miss Piggy": A Q&A between three of the guys and Miss Piggy. MP asked a guy named Charlie ("not sure who he is yet" - RS) was asked to show his "sexy" dance, and brought Emily up on stage for a lap dance. Aaron the science teacher gave Emily a romantic poem off the top of his head: "Roses are red, violets are blue, Emily Maynard I want to get to know you." Then MP asked Jef Holm "to show her his proposal," so "he proposed to Miss Piggy. And they fornicated on stage so they could start producing piglets."
Act 5: The President/CEO of Levine Children's Hospital came on stage to announce they'd raised $20,000 for the Ricky Hendrick charity, and everyone sang "Rainbow Connection" with the audience -- "including Chris Harrison."
"Emily's mother and Ricki did not stick around for the whole show. Ricki never interacted with any of the guys. For all she knew, she was just there to see a show that the Muppets were a part of. Her mom and Ricki left after Ricki went on stage."

Emily took contestant Chris on what has become a Bachelor(ette) essential: The fear date! They started by scaling the side of the Mint Museum Uptown (see photos of their climb here!). According to the Charlotte Observer, "It took them about 10 minutes to reach the top. Onlookers clapped as they climbed over the roof's edge." From there, says Reality Steve, the two shared a rooftop dinner on the same building, and then danced at a private concert by musician Luke Bryan. See video of their slow dance here. RS says, "Chris did receive a rose on this date and also got a kiss on the lips. No makeout though."

MORE DATES:

Details are slimmer on Emily's two more recent dates, but here's what RS had to spill:

- Emily took her next one-on-one suitor to the Greenbriar Resort in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where they helicoptered in, had dinner and watched a fireworks show.

- Her next group date, "by all accounts," took place at Sky High Sports in Pineville, NC, which is essentially a building full of trampolines. That ought to be a fun one to watch.

GOING INTERNATIONAL:

After a couple weeks in her home state, RS reports that Emily and her remaining suitors flew to Bermuda this past weekend. There, reports the Bermuda Sun, the cast and crew are staying at the Rosewood Tucker's Point Resort, where they will engage in "various water activities around the island during the course of filming" this week.

And speaking of going international, looks like Ben and Courtney are still going strong, this week in Puerto Vallarta. It must be hard to make it work with such a tough life.

Thoughts on these first Bachelorette spoilers? Are you excited to see Emily's season when it premieres in May?

‘The Bachelorette’ scoop: Emily Maynard’s season leaves America

For those of you wondering whether or not Emily Maynard’s season of “The Bachelorette” was really going to stay in America longer than some of the past seasons (thanks mostly in part to Emily having a daughter and wanting to stay close to her North Carolina roots), be prepared to be taught something rather different — the show’s not changing as much as you would think.

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Mike Fleiss (who has been a bit of a spoiler-master throughout the season) made the big announcement concerning what is happening with Emily at the moment:

“Leaving the great state of North Carolina… Heading for tropical location. NC will be a tough act to follow…”

It’s pretty safe to assume based on the show’s history that the tropical location will be in the Caribbean. It’s cheaper for the production team to film there than around the world, and they typically save some of their most exotic of locations (see Fiji) for the very end of the season when there are fewer people to cart around from place to place.

With this move, it’s safe to assume that Emily has started to narrow down her search for love to just a couple of handfuls of suitors. Considering all she has been through over the past several years, it’s hard to imagine someone like her cracking under this pressure — instead, we’re really more curious just what this experience is doing to some of the men.

How confident are you that Emily’s season is going to be a good one?

Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert is scheduled to hold a press conference on ‘tourism initiatives’ today, but the specific topic was not disclosed.

TUESDAY, MARCH 27: The Bachelorette has begun filming its eighth season here in Bermuda.

Bachelorette Emily Maynard was filming scenes with her mystery date last night in St George.

The pair were seen walking from King’s Square to St Peter’s Church where they sat on the steps and had a meal.

Onlookers stood across the street watching until they were asked to move by the production crew.

There were also Gombeys in the area but they were not participating in that scene.

Today, Ms Maynard was on a boat in Hamilton Harbour with her suitors.

The popular ABC show announced in January that its bachelorette for the eighth season was the 26-year-old single mother.

She won The Bachelor last year when Brad Womack proposed to her, but the couple split in June.

Ms Maynard, a fan favourite, will be the first single mom bachelorette and will choose one of 25 men to spend her life with.

The crew for the show arrived in Bermuda last week and are staying at Rosewood Tucker’s Point along with the cast.

Sources have told the Bermuda Sun a rose ceremony will take place at a lavish property on the island later this week.

Luke Bryan Plays for “The Bachelorette” and Potential Beau

He plays “Country Girl (Shake It for Me)”, and Emily Maynard does just that—sort of.

Brad Schmitt | Published: Mar 27, 2012

Spoiler alert—a couple of country acts have tried to help The Bachelorette find love.

Single mom Emily Maynard had a very public breakup with Brad Womack, the star of season 11 of ABC's The Bachelor. So the network is giving her a very public chance to find love again by making her the star of The Bachelorette—where a dozen or two guys will compete for her affection.

Luke Bryan and Gloriana are both apparently helping Emily find a man by playing small shows in Charlotte, N.C., for a couple of her dates.

Video posted online shows Luke playing a street concert for Emily and one of her suitors. Among the songs: "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)", which didn't exactly have Emily shaking it, though she did throw out some modest moves for her man of the moment. The couple also did a little slow dancing to Luke's new single, "Drunk On You."

The new season of The Bachelorette starts May 14, but no word on when the Luke and Gloriana episodes will air.
