IMO right out of the gate he is saying what he needs to say to insure the length of time that they remain on the show ,aside from him finding someone he really can care about his job is to bring the girls to the end of the show or we have no show, also has to keep the viewers in suspense.

I heard that he was going to be on Live with Kelly and Ryan -- did anyone watch or is there a clip of it?

there was also a preview with him and salley on kelly & ryan. it was basically just her telling him about her wedding and then him excusing himself.
