What is happening around you, around the world? Thread #3

Our province mandated mask wearing which I'm happy about that. I hope it stays that way for a long time.
Our province reported less than 100 new cases several days in a row and my region had one new case over a three day period. Prior to that 0-5 new cases daily except for 10 new cases after the long weekend in July.
The age group 39 and under has over taken the 80+ age group.
School year starts Sept 8th for those who want to send their children to school. There will be online classes available like they did from March to June. For high school, there will be a rotating schedule, for attendance, plus online learning.
I can't imagine how nervous parents are since there are younger cases and even deaths in teens and under. I feel for the teachers who have to somehow put the procedures in place, it's going to be difficult.
s for our planet.

Some of the school districts around here are starting school in mid August like usual but are doing it at home for at least the first 3 weeks. Others are asking parents to choose.
We're back to 50% in restaurants but bars are closed. We're not doing any indoor dining in the foreseeable future and I'm rethinking getting my haircut again (did it last month). Both are ranked high in the risk list.
I live in Wisconsin and our cases are rising every day. I have taken my kids to get their hair cut twice now since reopening and they are fine. I got my hair done a couple of weeks ago and it went well also. We all wear masks.

Alright, my family and I have been cooped up in our house for almost 5 months, hopefully to slow down the transmission of the pandemic and to protect ourselves. However, reading about some BN people traveling, going out and about, I am jealous and wondering: don’t they know there’s a pandemic going around? Is it really safe to go on a plane now?
I’ve read people contracting COVID 19 even though they have masks on and follow all the safety protocols. Will we ever see the light at the end of the tunnel?

@sdmom I know. That is the frustration I've been dealing with for 5 months now.
I don't know when I'll be comfortable travelling again, let alone going into a restaurant, not because of me not wanting to take precaution, but because of the idiots out there. MO
I have done everything I can to protect me and my family since day one, (just saw my sister and BIL last Thursday for the first time since March, outside, 6 feet away from each other) obsessed, and will continue to do so. It's my way of life, and I don't mind one bit.
To see large parties, gatherings, BN out and about doing whatever they want without taking the necessary precautions, I just wait for the next story "I thought it was a hoax, I lost my father" etc. Plenty of those stories to go around, and will IMO for a long time.

A friend of mine just posted this. Cute, but an important reminder particularly as things are easing open.

@Norcalgal Yes, apparently he is a principal in a high school in Childersburg Alabama.

Restaurants are allowing outdoor/patio seating here but I have yet to venture out yet. Maybe for my birthday next month we shall see.
I have visited with family and one friend, but we've sat apart from each other to be on the safe side.

@Linds911
I went to my first outdoor patio last week. I met a friend for breakfast. They took our names and phone numbers for contact tracing, and we had to sanitize before being seated. I was very impressed and felt a little more calmer after we sat down. Tables were more than 6 feet away. Big beautiful umbrella's, no condiments on the table. If you wanted anything it was brought on a plate in packages. Straws were also brought on a plate with the paper still on them.
We wiped our cutlery which was wrapped in a napkin, with the Clorox wipes we brought. The waitress had a mask and shield on and stood plenty away from us. The food was brought out on a tray, and we took our own plate off the tray. She got a healthy tip. Even though it was early morning 8am, it was starting to get hot but she was happy funny and was happy to be working.
I'm not ready to go inside a restaurant but there are so many that have built outside patio's to try and save their business's, so I'm ok with that.

@Linds911 Everyone has a different comfort zone. Mine is similar to yours - I have not been to a restaurant for any meal or even coffee since the pandemic began. I have had take-out 3 times (I live in the country so there are no restaurants that are close enough to just drop in - have to plan it).
I have kept in touch with friends via email, text and phone and the same with my family. I have seen only immediate family members. One of my sons had a co-worker contract covid, so he had to quarantine for 2 weeks (testing took 5 or 6 days to get an appointment and then even longer for the results). Son was negative.
@GuardianAngel I am happy for you that you had a good experience. Only outdoor dining allowed in northern California. Some cities have closed streets to allow more room for restaurants to expand their outdoor dining space. But it seems weird to have people (most are masked) walking right next to a table where patrons are seated.

@Norcalgal I know what you mean. I was at a restaurant in Niagara Falls. They have a huge parking lot, so they set up their "patio" next to their building and still have a huge parking lot, so that was more comfortable. I noticed another restaurant that's on a corner. What they did was use that space from the corner back to the first parking spot. That area, that is usually no parking from here to the corner type of thing.
I've seen some that have built patio's on the sidewalk, the parking spot right in front is blocked off so people can walk around the patio. IA I couldn't sit at a patio on the sidewalk with other people walking by. I have only picked up take out probably 3 times and not until May because I was too chicken. I have less than 10 people in my bubble but keep in touch with many by email text and phone.
Business people have been creative and the Province relaxed the rules while we were still in Stage one so they could build the patio's without too much red tape. There were quite a few that I saw that were already built well before they were able to open so when we entered stage 2 they were ready.
Nervous for the kids and teachers. There was an announcement today from the minister of education, sinking millions of $ for various needs. I haven't read it yet but part of it was air quality, hiring more custodians, and required supplies. The main issue and I don't know how they are going to handle it is social distancing in the classroom when you have an average of 30 kids per classroom, it's bound to outbreak, I hope not. I have two nieces in that field and they are both going to the extreme to keep everyone safe. IMO you have to.
Ontario as a province is doing very well, but hopefully parents have been teaching their children. I noticed at the grocery store younger kids maybe 7-9 yrs old wearing masks walking in the parking lot with their parents back to their car. It's mandatory I thought it's great for them to get used to it now before school starts.

@GuardianAngel I've mostly seen children with masks. Kids are so adaptive that I think they'll get used to it.
Stay cool if you live where it's hot! It was 102 on my property yesterday and we don't have air conditioning! (Ocean breezes are usually pretty strong and cool). But due to the overall demand for power in CA, tptb decided to do 'rolling blackouts'. And we were one of the lucky ones. Lost power for 4 hours in the evening. And as we have a well, no powere=no water! I feel like between the fires the past several years, the pandemic and now this hot weather with power outages, we are being tested.
