Bachelorette Australia - Season 6 - TBD - Potential Lead - Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers*
Bobette wrote:So Abbie wants to be Bette and I'm torn.
One side of me says HELL NO, but she was pretty good on camera, and she'd have no qualms about getting ~physical~ with her suitors which is always fun to watch IMO. Maybe TPTB could introduce Fantasy Suites just for her season.
Can't see it happening though - she wasn't hugely popular with the wider audience and just seems to be digging herself deeper post show IMO. Oh and ps sorry Todd it sounds like you're dumped mate, in case you didn't get the memo.KIIS 1011 Melbourne
Abbie Chatfield Could Be The Next Bachelorette
By Olivia Esveld
Abbie Chatfield was one of the most talked about girls from the most recent season of The Bachelor with Matt Agnew.
While she ultimately didn’t win Matt’s heart, she made it to the top two and caused a stir when she infamously told Matt during THAT incredibly sexual beach date that she was “horny”.
As the season aired on TV, Abbie copped a lot of hate online and it became pretty clear that she received the villain edit. But it seems that this wouldn’t stop the reality star from dating on TV all over again!
Only this time, she wants to be in the drivers seat.
“I would love to do the Bachelorette,” Abbie said yesterday to Sydney Confidential.
“But I think it’s a really hard gig because you’re basically by yourself… I’d definitely consider (it though), I think it would be lots of fun.”
This news certainly comes as a bit of a surprise to all of us who thought that Abbie was no longer single!
Recently she was spotted kissing a former Bachelorette cast member, Todd King. But Abbie also told Sydney Confidential that the pair aren’t dating due to some location issues.
“No we’re not dating. We had like, one weekend in Brisbane and it’s been drawn out,” she said.
“He’s great but lives in Perth and just got into the police academy so he’s not going [and] I’m not moving to Perth.”
Speaking about the type of guy that she’s looking for, Abbie said that she just wants someone with a good sense of humour.
“I don’t have a type at all. Every guy that I’ve dating is completely different in age, appearance, background and job,” she continued to tell the publication.
“I want someone who’s smart and empathetic and can make me laugh.”
So could Abbie take over from Angie Kent as the Bachelorette? It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that one of the runner ups went on to take on the main role – Ali Oetjen, Matty J and Richie Strahan all did, just to name a few!

Astrobach wrote:@Bobette While I agree with your reasoning I’ll add that for me, she is pursuing anything BUT finding a partner... so, to put her in the lead role would be anti climactic to what she is about, at least for now. And her publicly stating that she is for ‘ open relationships’ and is all over the place in terms of possible partner... the girl needs to mature a bit and I have my doubts about the public liking her enough to watch her ‘journey’. Even when it doesn’t always happen, the premise of the show is still to look for someone to settle down with isn’t it?
Plus, I think she is enjoying the attention AND freedom she has right now until she lands on BIP...

Dirty Street Pie wrote:Abbie as Bette is a no from me. She pisses and moans about editing, and being misled by production, then says she’ll sign up to do it all again? No thanks.
Will be interesting if she goes into BIP with a mindset of being Alexnation (the one everyone wants) or tries to be Australia’s sweetheart but ends up single in hopes of being the Bette?
Bobette wrote:@Astrobach Yeah I agree. Maybe they could do a spin-off, a Mini Bette - in it for a good time not a long time. I'd totally watch that.
@Dirty Street Pie I'm very interested to see Abbie in Paradise. The fact that she stipulated wanting someone who can make her laugh (plus her IG stories) make me think she's got her sights set on Timm but I think she'll have competition. Game on!
ETA: Actually maybe Timm won't be there - since Angie's season still has 3 weeks to run and BiP will probably start filming soon?
Sprite wrote:Please, NO!!!
I have had enough of 23 year olds who want to be famous on this show. The willingness to bare her rear end and straddle some guys on the beach while flip flopping on what she wants out of a partner depending on her audience...and willingly say whatever shocking bit gets her more screen time...is just a big old no from me. All I see is a fame ho Aussie version of Demi.

Depends on how long they film for, and when they start. Melbourne Cup is next Tuesday, I think a lot of the starters flew out on the Wednesday and Thursday of that week, so he couldn’t be there from the beginning. Damn this season for starting 2 weeks late!

Thousands of fans demand Judith Lucy be the next Bachelorette
Thousands of Aussies have signed a petition to make an Australian comedy legend Judith Lucy the next Bachelorette.
Despite Lucy being well over the conventional mid 20s-mid 30s age range for the franchise, over 2400 fans have agreed “Australia’s reigning queen of comedy” would make a revolutionary presence on the dating show.
Known primarily for her stand-up comedy, Lucy began her in the 1980s - the decade before current Bachelorette Angie Kent was born - before branching out into radio, television, film and writing.
The petition was created by Nelly Thomas after listening to a talk-back radio caller share the idea on Virginia Trioli’s ABC Radio show.
“Time to get this woman back in the game with some quality Aussie blokes,” the petition states.
“They’ll be lining up- and at their age they’re probably not ever trawling for Insta followers!”
The 51-year-old recently completed a sold-out national tour - Judith Lucy v Men - that chronicled her lacklustre dating history in hilarious detail.
If Lucy and Channel 10 were to bring the idea to fruition, it would make the popular comedian the oldest Australian series lead, a title currently held by Sophie Monk, who took on the role at age 37.
Monk’s season also boasts the highest ratings for both the Bachelor and Bachelorette.
And Australia agrees it’s more than ready for the unconventional leading lady.
“I would watch the s**t out of this,” one Twitter user wrote.
“As far as petitions to shake up Australian TV go... this is by far my favourite!” another said.
“Finally a cause I can get behind,” another agreed.
According to the petition’s creator, Lucy is said to be “utterly bemused” by the idea but “has given it the green light”.
The petition follows Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield telling The Daily Telegraph she was single and open to be the next Bachelorette.

An online petition for Judith Lucy to become Australia’s next leading lady on Ten’s The Bachelorette is gaining social media traction, but it’s hard to say if the comedian herself hearts the idea.
Children’s book author Nelly Thomas started the petition on change.org. It drew 1592 signatures of support in its first eight hours.
The idea came from a talkback caller to Virginia Trioli’s radio program on ABC Melbourne.
“As a single woman over the age of 30, Judith would be a relatable – but revolutionary – presence on a television dating show,” Ms Thomas wrote.
“And how fascinating the coterie of men interested in this Aussie icon would be!
“Judith is utterly bemused by this petition and has no idea what is going on, but she has given it the green light.”
Also saying he had Lucy’s permission, comedian Wil Anderson was among those supporting the push to get the 51-year-old dishing out roses and cheese platters amid the tea lights at the mansion.
But Lucy’s alleged fondness for the idea of being a romality star in the footsteps of Angie Kent and Sophie Monk didn’t extend to her wanting to talk about it to The New Daily.
“No. She’s not available for press at the moment,” a spokesperson at management company Token Artists said, adding Lucy isn’t involved in her social media.
Intriguing. So is she just playing hard to get or shy about matters of the heart/business?
Certainly her romantic travails have been rich comedic fodder for Lucy in the past. Earlier this year she toured nationally with a stand-up show called Judith Lucy vs Men.
“I think after a certain age, women are really meant to hang their vaginas up, or at least not really talk about the fact that they’re still sexual,” she told ABC’s News Breakfast last October, saying she was considering giving up relationships but not necessarily men.
Lucy had “a bad break-up” that made her reflect on her history with men.
“And spoiler alert, it’s not very good. It’s terrible. So I thought maybe it’s just time to shut up shop,” said Lucy.
Not a fan of dating apps, she told News Breakfast in her twenties she paid $648 for sex with an escort because she thought it might provide good material for her career.
“It was just kind of like a really average one-night stand,” she recalled.
“The only thing he did that was a bit different was he actually carried me to the bed, which just made me feel like I was in that film An Affair to Remember after she had been hit by the car.”
In March Lucy told the Sydney Morning Herald she was “still a little bit vulnerable” after the sudden end to the five-year relationship that sparked her show about men.
“There are a couple of bits in the show where I’m even more open about the fact I’m really sad still,” she said.
Those scars would fit with the format of The Bachelor and Bachelorette, where dates are dedicated to talking about walls and vulnerabilities.
“Time to get this woman back in the game with some quality Aussie blokes,” pleaded Ms Thomas, who The New Daily contacted for comment.
“They’ll be lining up – and at their age they’re probably not even trawling for Insta followers!
“In entertainment, this is what we call a win-win situation.”

It would be a brave, brave man who signed up for Judith's season IMO.
Anyone familiar with Lucy’s hilarious stand up (particularly her most recent show Judith Lucy v Men which chronicled her dating history with brutal, visceral honesty) would know all too well how much fun it would be to watch this doyen of Australian comedy dissect 21 eligible men until all that remained was a shell of a human with a manbun wobbling atop.
Judith drinking the tears of the men who wronged her.

I have spoken to Jude and I can confirm that she WILL consider being our next @BacheloretteAU.
I have posted a letter to the show’s producers & a friend will deliver it to @oshergunsberg.
Australia is offering Judith a massive rose https://t.co/5ER7esuNTX

Sportsbet odds 24/11. I think we can rule out everyone listed here - any true contenders would be 2.25 or less IMO.

Nice find @LeapofFaith! I've never heard of her (despite the fact that she seems to think her being Bette is a "hot topic" here )

Sharna Burgess is preparing to jump from one reality show to another. The longtime Dancing With The Stars professional dancer has shared with E! News that she is in talks to join Australia's version of The Bachelorette. The 34-year-old said she has had "conversations" about the possibility and added that she is "ready for love."
"I am getting more and more open to being the Bachelorette," she explained. "I just got back from Australia and it became a pretty hot topic over there on whether I could be the next Bachelorette in Australia, so that's an interesting thought for me. I'm excited by it! I would maybe do it here, I don't know. It's up in the air, but I'm definitely looking for love."

Does it ever happen to have a potential lead pre announce their possible role to find out they were not chosen? What an anticlimax that would be! Are they supposed to keep things Hush Hush anyway!? Curious how it works over there because I can’t think of it happening here. It’s a state secret! Plus they choose their next mead from the incestuous pool of the exes!!!

She sounds like a delusional egomaniac IMO.
"I'm getting more open to it..." Are you now? That's nice, considering I don't know who you are and you don't even live here.
I can't stand her already. It's a NO from me.

Whoops I just read that back - I may have been a tad harsh.
Seriously though who is this woman? Is she popular in America? She seems to think she's got a chance of being the US Bette too:

@Astrobach I see Australia going for a celebrity again like Sharna before they go for someone like Abbie - jmo

Thanks for the info @LeapofFaith If TPTB were considering her I doubt they are now with her running her mouth off like that - pretty sure Leads need to be discreet.
Abbie's out IMO based on Sportsbet odds alone. I can't see anyone from recent seasons being able to carry the role TBH. I'm hoping for someone new and different.

Another name to throw in
Tziporah Malkah (Kate Fisher). She has lost weight and want to find love. Hopefully no. Dont think TPTB will want her. She runs her own race.
