Re: Weather - Discussion
The first time in my life I went through my house insurance several years ago to get a quote on my roof due to wind damage after a torrential storm. Like you said depending on which way the wind was blowing, well it was blowing towards the back of my house, so all the shingles were curled up along the back of my house, but perfectly fine everywhere else. Of course they would only pay for the back, so I did the whole roof and had them pay their share. They were in great shape, probably had at least another 6-8 yrs but I figured I might was well make it all even.
I can't imagine what people go through when dealing with their insurance companies.
I think I saw another tropical storm or something brewing. I'll have to check.
I plan on going to Florida in November, they better stay away!

Re: Weather - Discussion
@GuardianAngel we get a lot of hail around here so roof replacement is a common occurrence. I have friends who've had 2 in 2 years. What kind of shingles do you have?

They should be doing a metal roof. They are supposed to be great and last a really long time. I will probably have to redo mine within the next 5-7 years and that is what I will do. It will outlast me.

Re: Weather - Discussion
Good friends of mine have a winter home near Mexico Beach. They left today to see if they can get to their house. I'm on pin's and needles waiting to hear from them.
One day everything is fine, next day you are scrounging for food and water. My heart aches for every single person affected by Hurricane Michael and all natural disasters. I'm so fortunate to not have ever been affected by such tragedy. The death toll is rising in Florida, so sad. So thankful for first responders firefighters military and everyone else who also put their lives in danger, to help others.
Now there is another one heading towards Portugal.

Winter Storm Warning for Southern Ontario
Active for next 11 hours · Environment Canada
Posted 5 hours ago
Winter storm conditions expected today and tonight.
Snow at times heavy and blowing snow are expected to develop early this morning and taper off overnight.
Although the storm system responsible will track well to the south of the Great Lakes, northeast winds off Lake Ontario will pick up extra moisture resulting in higher snowfall totals. Snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected. Snowfall amounts should be considerably less for areas north of Hamilton and Burlington.
In addition, strong northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h will generate widespread blowing snow and cold wind chill values near minus 20. Near zero visibility is likely at times.
###
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
Recommended actions
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
