It's really hard to announce places right away. Things like penalties may affect placement and announcers hate saying places if they end up not being accurate.

The top pros they announce places because those are correct 99% of the time. With so many age agroup athletes it's tough to confirm so quickly.

@umngirl ahh ok makes sense. Nice to see a few father son's on the course and first time women. What an accomplishment!

The announcer just mentioned 12 hours to 13:30 is the average time for an IM as a 50 yr old crosses the line. I need to seriously get with the health program! laugh out loud

While we're waiting.

The highly anticipated race begins with the swimmers entering the water at 6:30 a.m. for a 2.4 mile swim across beautiful Mirror Lake, followed by a demanding 112-mile bike leg through the Adirondack Mountains, and ends with a full marathon through the mountains and downtown that ends at the Olympic speed skating oval in the village of Lake Placid.
