[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I agree I think they may be cautious about how she's portrayed. I do think that she may get a smidge of backlash to who she picks as her F1, but that's a whole other sensitive topic.
In terms of the drama, it may come from mostly the men.
I do hope that this leads to a Bachelor of color. That would be awesome!

I'm not thinking she will be torn to shreds, but she will get it like every lead before her and like every lead after her. They will manipulate her, they will throw her curve balls, they will stress her out and run her ragged.

If all of a sudden a lead has everything flowing hunky dory, nobody will by that and will think it was done precisely because she is the first African American woman lead...leading to negativity...even though that has nothing to do with her, but everything to do with producers and editors.

All that aside, every lead comes out with negativity...rightly or wrongly. She is at her peak now. I would put money on the fact that she will come out with more negativity than she went in with. There will be the next beloved lead who will also get a wonderful edit and she will have to dump him...p*ssing off a whole group of fans who will be tired of her and ready to move on to fresh meat. That is just the nature of the beast and applies to all of them...no matter how wonderful or deserving.

Plus--Channing will not be privy to the storyboard, the dates or the edits.
We are talking about MF. Millsy has alluded to past cast during their season horribly I won't repeat. I don't expect that horse to change colors.I expect it will be with issues coming straight out of the "horses" own mouth, so no blame can be attached.
Personally, I wish this would be a bach season vs an 'ette. They do the 'ettes worse.

Based on the current racial climate, and the ABC programming info from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], I would venture to say tptb will have their orders to protect Rachel's image. imo

But that's just my point. Even if they do protect her image...and even if that has nothing to do with her...people will notice and be ticked off because she is getting special treatment. No matter what happens, she will come out with more negativity than she went in with. Rightly or wrongly.

I'm not really invested in her, so for me it will be interesting to watch how her season is edited. Will they try the soft approach or will it be business as usual? IMO tptb are in a lose lose situation either way. That might be interesting too.

IMO race has nothing to do with it. Ratings, money, drama is all they care about. They certainly won't show a love story, plan B drama at anyone's expense.

IMO Rachel will be no different than any other lead. Ali crucified for going ballistic when Frank left, Roberto accused of being the default, same for Des. JoJo choosing the cheating Jordan which as posted above, the magazine plant. Kaitlyn hopping in and out of beds, Andi totally insensitive to Eric RIP, and the ATFR that was 6 minutes of the happy couple and everything else about the rest, DeAnna flipping her lid when the guys weren't paying attention to her, and Graham wanted to bail, Jillian and the volcanic FS.

If Rachel is to be protected because of the position of the head of ABC then there should be a revolt by all the other leads for what they went through IMHO.

I agree with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], they have to deliver and satisfy "history making" ... audience. My guess is TPTB will create a fairy tale, that comes with a footnote that the expectations send the bill later to collect.

Imo, I don't think they are going to intentionally portray her in a bad light and whether audiences, fans want to believe it or not, this is very different due to the fact that she is the first in 33 seasons. So they are going to do it in a sensitive way like people have said not only that, it's been a very sensitive year as well the climate is intense at the moment and many people are trying to find an escape (me included) so I think the team will take that into consideration. JMO

Not saying she will come out of it stress-free because I think that is impossible. But I do think that they are going to play this upcoming season with caution to a certain extent.

I agree Kasha. Tptb are masters at this. They know exactly what they are doing since they have done it a time or two. They will have her spinning so she doesn't know whether she is coming or going and eventually she will crack. Something will be said or done and cleverly edited to make it seem so much worse. I have seen many times how one little thing swings the tide. Last night's video Q & A was a prime example. Not to say, she can't repair some of it at some other point in time, but damage will have been done. You can never go back.

I will be interested to see her post show. If she goes back to her life or becomes more involved in the Bachelor family. If she is bitter or regretting doing the show in the first place. All a long way away, but interesting for me.

The only kind of fairytale MF and Millsy know are Brothers Grimm. IMO
This will be the season they let the lead "hang or heal" herself. IMO

Plus, Channing got to the position which she holds through quality shows which have high ratings IMO. I don't see her being there if she spearheaded duds. Personally, I don't see her being involved in production irrespective of her support for Rachel. IMO She knows personal feelings don't have a place when it comes to production/ratings. She is after all the woman who once volunteered to make the call to her sister telling her she was being replaced.

IMO, though Rachel is making history for MF and TPTB, I don't for a second think they're going to do things any differently or be extra sensitive towards her, treat her special or act like they care. That's not their MO and IMO, they're not going to change who they are just for her. JMO

This show has changed a lot in the recent years and since TPTB (per CH) got together to revamp the show. Add in the fact that SM has taken this show in a totally unprecedented direction and for the worse, I really don't see how Rachel will be some sort of exception at all.

Perhaps most telling is that I think more than ever before this show is about drama, getting the next Lead, and BIP auditions for contestants. It's why I think the lead doesn't matter to TPTB other than for them to get what they want -- which is more drama if going by past recent seasons and TPTB will do whatever they can to amp up the drama.

So if anything, I only see things getting worse for the next leads and not easier - especially Rachel's season as it is already rife with lots of additional potential drama this show hasn't seen before and I won't be surprised if it gets really really ugly IMO.

Perhaps that is in part why Rachel has been chosen - More potential drama for TPTB to exploit! :yes:

I just want to add: in about 2-3 weeks if not presently, TPTB are already scoping out who the next TB will be. So in a sense--this season's 'Ette is history.
