Re: Vanessa Grimaldi - Bachelor 21 - *Sleuthing Spoilers*
The job changes, "YOLOing", taking leaps of faith are similar, too. And also the lead's penchant for always being so much in his head/over analyzing everything ...
I do think Nick is more like a combination of Ted & Barney though - he has Ted's hopeless romantic/analytical side & Barney's swagger/wears a suit damn well/half-a$$hole/hot kisser side ... no wonder I like him so much

See this? This is you. It's not showy or gaudy. It's simple. Elegant. Beautiful.
It's my mom's bracelet.
I know.
How do you know?
Well, because you told me. Six months ago. You were wearing that blue sweater with the snowflakes that you have. You were walking down the hallway at school. I was annoying you as per usual. You said, "Look, Pacey, I just found my mother's bracelet this morning, so why don't you cut me some slack?"
You remember that?
I remember everything.

Sister Melissa. They look close in age. Mel has a child who looks around 1 yrs old.
Brother Patrick. He looks a fair bit younger and his IG bio has 21 so that may be his age.
Grandpa is in several posts so he is either very photogenic or their relationship is close.

Pretty sure Cristin Milioti is also part-Italian (or at least has Italian heritage), so maybe that's where some of the resemblance comes from? I still think Vanessa looks more like JLH, though.

TheWrongReasons wrote:Vanessa kind of reminds me of the character of "The Mother" in "How I Met Your Mother" - this almost magical dream girl who seems to fit the hopeless romantic lead's every wish as a "soulmate" type. Someone who's built up so much because the lead has been looking for her over multiple seasons all while getting his heart broken/breaking some hearts of his own. A woman who is pretty, but IMO in a sort of quirky way - not conventionally supermodel or "intimidatingly" beautiful (in general and in comparison with some of the lead's exes). Someone who seems goofy, quirky, feisty, kind-hearted ... almost like a manic pixie dream girl type.
And ... the story of how they met is certainly interesting, complicated and filled with numerous twists & turns and sliding doors/"what if" moments. She even looks a little like "The Mother" IMO :

Lol so nothing new to add sleuthing wise ... just a random connection/analysis derived from watching way too much TV
oh shoot I am watching this show on Netflix with my sister (haven't seen it before)and only into season 5 but I couldn't help but keep reading your post! When I think about though, you are right on about Nick's path to potentially finding "the one." Great connection!
I was going to (insert any productive activity) but then well...........Nick

actually it's hilarious because I think Nick transitioned from being VERY ted and some of Barney to becoming more and more like barney over the years! His naivety wearing off ...getting slicker and smoother with his look and style...great analogy

GuardianAngel wrote:You will loose your medical benefits at home, and you may loose your residency if you're a permanent residence, one who isn't born in Canada. This is mainly for people who live in other countries but own a home in Canada. Those who get medical benefits because they are permanent residence but spend most of their time in another country as well as any pensions they may receive.
For the most part we just don't take the chance. "Snowbirds" those that go south for the winter, make sure they are within the guidelines because they will come back.
You can be put on a restricted list if you try to cross the border and have had issues with not returning within a 6 month time frame.
Whenever Canadians travel out of country they should get their own medical insurance, since a lot of it is not covered by the Canadian health system.
This is true if you are a Permanent Resident, BUT you can go to the Canadian Consulate in the country you are staying (before the 6 months are up), and request permission for another 6 months... or extra time. They are usually great at granting you the extension without altering your Resident's Status.
I did this from October 1983 until March 1985, when I stayed in Peru with my son and I was a Landed Immigrant (Perm Resident).
If You are a Canadian Citizen, you can stay out of Canada for as long as you want, and you will not lose your Citizenship. It is always advisable to report to your Canadian Consulate every year or so, just to touch base, etc. What you will need to do is fill-out your taxes in Canada with the reports from your job in the country you are at. This way you can collect your pension, etc etc
The problem is not Canada, is whether or not the other country allows a person to stay there, and under which types of visas, etc
For some reason, I really really want Nick to come and stay here for a while!1 Get a job proposition, and get your working Visa...experience our dynamic and diverse country! I have no doubt he would fit right in and bask in the knowledge and experience

I have a very good friend who's son has been in NYC for over 30 yrs on a work permit. He is Canadian and works for very well known designers. He has never been in trouble, and has no record what so ever. Every time he needs to renew that Visa, he has issues. I have another friend who goes south every year. Two years ago they were contacted because they were in the US for their usual winter stay but had gone on a cruise out of NYC to Europe during their 12 month period. They were in NYC for two days, those two days caused a warning.
Getting a working Visa isn't that easy either from what I've seen. The employer has to declare that there are no eligible Canadians that qualify for the job that person is applying for. I don't think it's easy as it was years ago, and even then it wasn't easy.
In my experience, they are very strict about being out of the country. I live near the US border. There are issues all the time with people trying to cross over and being sent back. There was recently a couple that were married, she was American, he was landed immigrant in Canada, he didn't have the proper paperwork. They were deporting him.
If Vanessa is the F1, I hope they take their time and make no plans for marriage any time soon. With her skills, I would think she'd have an easier time getting a working permit in the U.S. Maybe she can take a short leave to figure it all out.

In addition to what GA stated above, just because you have a desirable profession does not make the process necessarily easier to get a similar job.
My daughter who is a special ed teacher/elementary ed teacher taught in NYC. When they moved across the Hudson to NJ it was and has been a PITA to get her certificate/licensure changed over. She has her masters, too. Does not make a difference. Each state has their own criteria and red tape.

No good deed goes unpunished.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, bye Felicia!

Hopefully they can figure things out. If Kaitlyn managed to get a visa, then surely Vanessa can as well if she's willing to move. Getting a job is another thing altogether of course, but they have plenty of time to figure something out if they're committed to each other.
