@Kashathediva She will be 2 in December. 3/4 Maltese and 1/4 shitzu . She’s about 10 lbs now . Her brother was the runt and has more Maltese features. Bay has a lot of shitzu . She’s left pawed and if you read about left pawed dogs, you’ll understand why she’s so rambunctious .

@Stone_Hedge how can you tell if they are left or right? My Bailey is one have Poodle, one quarter Yorkie and one quarter Maltese. She is very rambunctious, also. Jumps like a mountain goat. Talks back. Lots of moxie.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, bye Felicia!

One way is, when they want attention, watch what paw is used more dominantly . Another way is... have someone hold Bailey and call her from a short distance. Watch what paw she starts with. Left pawed dogs are different. Or so I’ve been reading.

My Bailey only had 2 in her litter, too. Also, a brother who was the runt, but not all that much smaller. I think she is ambipaw dexterous. Either way, she has lots of puppy crazy. I just gave her composure.

Norcalgal wrote:We live on a ranch and about 3 weeks ago hubby went outside and saw a cat actually stick her arm, up to the shoulder, in a gopher hole. She had been stalking the gopher. Hubby fed her a gopher he had caught and mentioned how thin she looked.
Two days later, she shows up with 2 tiny kittens! We put them in our workshop and bought food. Never had cats before. Borrowed a carrier to take mama to animal rescue to see if she was chipped - NOT. She is still nursing but we want to take her to be spayed. Kittens are not very into human touch - I can stroke them while I feed them but won't let me pick them up. Mama is obviously a stray used to human touch. Our dog thinks it is his job to terrorize them and will run around the workshop (about the size of a 3 car garage) looking in the windows to see the cats. It's exhausting keeping them safe!
Any suggestions?
Do you have any idea of how old the kittens are? Once mom stops nursing...usually by the time the kittens are about 8 weeks old...you can get her spayed.
Keep handling the kittens as much as you can. They need to be socialized to as many new things as possible so they are well adjusted and can be adopted more easily. Different people, stroked in different places, nails clipped, etc. Your vet will thank you. They will also need thier shots and spayed. Talk to your vet about when is the best time. Usually no later than six months because they can go into heat.
Even the dog could be exposed to them. Maybe someone holding the dog on leash and someone holding a kitten above the nose so the dog can smell them. Depends on the dog. Some are just curious, but if your dog has a high prey drive, best not to. If it doesn't, you can start getting him used to them by letting him smell a blanket or towel that has the scent of the cats.
Contact a rescue organization if you do not plan to keep them...or a local humaine society, but make sure they are a no kill shelter.
Your vet can answer your questions. As well, there are a lot of resources on line.
If you can, please post some pictures.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for sharing @Sprite . This hurts my heart so much. It also makes me angry, because in Dallas animal control is so focused right now on prosecuting responsible dog owners who just want their pets to play off leash in the park. I wish they would go after these awful people instead.

@Sprite Thank you. We are planning on keeping all 3 cats. We can take them to a cat organization for sterilization at a low cost. We want them to hunt and eat gophers on our property which are a huge pest that cost us a lot of $$ to trap. (They eat the roots of our vines). So we are not inviting them inside for luxurious accommodations and will probably build a cat house for them outdoors (insulated with two entrances/exits). I will try to post pics as soon as I take them off my phone. The little calico will let me pet her while she is eating but my favorite, Blondie Girl, is still very timid although she watches us intently petting her sibling and mom. The workshop is pretty secure although a raccoon or bobcat could get in if they really worked at it. Hubby has his critter camera hooked up on night vision to see what they do during the night. The cats go outside and play on the lawn and hunt. I've found them with a mouse and a lizard, so far!
Been watching this crap show like forever
