There's that past tense of living in L.A and the mention of the new business.

I hope he is offered DWTS. IA why not do it.

GA, if that is a direct quote from Nick "had been living"  technically means he continues to live in LA.

There was discussion the other day, that someone listened to a vid or read something and couldn't reacall where,  it appeared he was talking in past tense and mentioned a business.

I read this article and it mentions what the discussion was the other day, so I copied that part of the article.

Agree. HAVE been living would indicate ongoing; HAD been living is past tense.

I'm speaking in technical terms, have and had used in present perfect participle describe a continuous pattern. That's just me being a stickler. Doesn't matter, I'd rather it be in past tense, but putting it out there for technicality. To describe the past using this pattern, grammar dictates use "having lived" or had lived. Nonetheless, doesn't matter, I just won't get my hopes up especially if this is a quote from a published material.
