The Bachelor NZ: 'You have no control' - Gab

With only 11 contestants now remaining, The Bachelor NZ is suddenly getting serious.

On Tuesday night, TV3 viewers watched on as resident Bachelorette Gab Davenport jumped at the chance to share her first kiss with the bachelor, Jordan Mauger - less than 24 hours after he'd shared his first kiss with fellow contestant, Fleur Verhoevan.

"I totally missed the memo on having a 'game plan' - the only plan I had was to try remember everyone's name and not look straight at the camera," Davenport said, despite lunging at the opportunity to lock lips with Mauger.

"There was a lot to take in that first night, so much so that I pretty much blanked Jordan when I got to the end of the red carpet - God, no surprises I didn't get that 'first impression rose.'"

The 29-year-old marketing manager from Kerikeri quickly found common ground with Mauger, discovering the pair shared a love of children and were both family orientated.

"My family and friends were pretty excited and supportive of me going on the show," she said.

"Some were a little apprehensive at the start, a little more anxious. It's a big decision that ultimately doesn't just affect me but also my family and close friends. I was really lucky knowing I had the support from those that matter the most back home."

Davenport said the anxiety about meeting Mauger, a mystery suitor right up until the series' first episode, played on her mind during the build up to filming.

"I think going on The Bachelor was one of the biggest things on my mind (other than what the hell this guy was going to be like). I think knowing I had no control over what would or wouldn't be shown on the show, it was only natural to feel nervous about public perception, however, I went in (to it) telling myself to 'just be me' and stay true to that" she said.

"Those that love me and know me well will see me for me on the show and that's what matters most."

Watching the reality show air around the country is like a "trip down memory lane" with a few parts missing, she said.

"It's crazy to watch the show back, I guess you could describe it like a trip down memory lane but you only see parts of the memory."

"And sometimes it's not quite how you remembered it," she said. "I think overall, the girls are being portrayed fairly, we all know the girls so much better in person than what is shown on the show so there's always more to them than what the public sees."

"I think everyone can get a bit of an idea of personalities, enough to pick your favourite (contestants) anyway."
