Episode 11 - 8/1 Finale - Discussion - Spoilers

Ashley also loved JP's line at the very end of the finale when he said something like, "Remember that very first night when you said to us you thought your husband was in the room, and I thought, what the f*** is she talking about?" I think they have similar senses of grown up humor.

Gotta say, I cracked up when he said that line as well!!

Me too. I love it when he gets his swag going on, then he turns to mush around Ashley. Too cute, so "The Long Island Jew who beat the crap outta the Irishman" is wrapped around her little finger. He carried her purse all around NYC this morning and cleaned out a closet for her clothes.

Ben and JP obviously were not close because Chris L had a very good idea that Ali would wind up with Roberto. They are still friends to this day. Ben had his group of friends during the season and JP had his. They both had very different relationships with Ashley. Obviously, the one with JP was stronger. So Ben might not be used to being rejected, but he still was under the impression that Ashely would pick him. Only he can answer why and what made him purpose and act the way he did at the time. I think his feelings and intentions were and still are genuine and understandable. JMO

I'm sure Ben was feeling it with Ashley, and the whole proposal thing was unfortunate but also was kind of both if their fault. Ben didn't let her finish or apparently read the body language she was giving off at the FRC and she didn't interrupt him fast enough to stop his speech. I think he was p*ssed off, royally, at the rejection, but whether it was from sadness, rejection, embarrassment, hurt, we just don't know. I'm sure that Ben, like all the F2's that have come before him, quickly got over it after the Bachelor Bubble burst. He'll be just fine.

Gina, Did you hear this at one of their interviews? I saw the GMA and R&K but didn't notice or hear about this. I had to go in to work-- was there another interview that I missed? TIA

I agree completely with your thoughts! I am not going to psychoanalyze Ben's reasons for the way he reacted and felt during the show. We don't know everything that was going on, so it's hard to judge. Yes, it does appear that JP and Ashley's connection was obvious to the other guys and even the production crew as well as CH. However, what Ben felt when he was with Ashley appeared to be quite real to him. I don't know if not being able to open up emotionally since his father's death, might have changed his perceptions of what was going on. I am really reluctant to make any kind of judgement about Ben. I think feelings are feelings and aren't right or wrong, they just are.

I wrote a lengthy post about the different ways in which JP and Ben approached this process. I chose not to assign a value to either approach. I do think that in the short run, Ben's approach seemed to make it easier for him to deal with everything. JP's approach seemed to make it tougher for him because he was so aware of the fact that he was competing with other guys. However, as the show moved towards its conclusion, JP was better prepared for any outcome, although I personally believe that at the FRC he was very confident that he was the one.

I don't know that Ben has to dissect why he did what he did. I just hope that he takes the good out of what happened and moves on with his life. I wish him nothing but the best.

And their is photo evidance of him carrying her big purse around the streets of NYC. True love.

I suspect it was a combination of all those things. I'm sure Ben is over it by now or well on his way, and I got the impression from what he said on ATFR that he got a lot out of the whole experience and doesn't really regret what he did, and that may also include proposing (because I never actually heard him say he wished he hadn't). He fell in love and got to enjoy the thrill of that, was able to open up emotionally, and maybe he thinks, or will think ultimately, that what he learned and took from the whole experience was worth the temporary heartbreak.

Viewers of course will continue, depending on their personal preferences, to try to assign blame to him, or to Ashley, or to who I truly believe should bear the brunt of it, the producers.
