Yeah... there's plenty of time for laughing once the pants come off...

interesting how life is. They met eachother at the perfect time.
That was very sweetly said!

No idea where to post basic reactions. JP is a grown up, and completely "done" -- he is ready to settle down, with her, right now. She seems serious about giving it a shot. Ashley had some weird expressions (nervous or something) during last night's show and in a few of her interviews, and her reaction to the proposal was sort of anti climactic.
That said, I like this couple, and like many have said, think that starting a normal life in NYC is a good start. Not sure she won't be tempted by public life, as almost all of them who do the show have the bug, and get lots of opportunities. Depends on whether her popularity goes up now that she has picked her man. She wasn't a particularly popular Bach-ette thanks to the constant Bentley theme.
Regarding Ben, he survived with all his boyish appeal and "dignity" in tact.
I'm quite persuaded that JP was ahead of Ben for Ashley probably all along the way, even though she says lots of contradictory things on camera.
Hong Kong was obviously a big turning point for them ... and then the producers pack her off on an "overnight" with Ben in Taiwan. Always going for the drama they are.
But I think all the filming stuff is long in the past, watching their interviews today. They seemed to be focused on the future. JP doesn't care about Ben or what happened. I do think her sister nailed some important themes for their future growth as a couple in her (too quickly rendered) assessment. Every couple has stuff to grow through though.
He's cute and successful and grounded. Wish them the best.
Ames was entertaining on the show, such a different thoughtful articulate worldly guy, but I think he'd drive me crazy for 10 weeks. Ryan is so sincere he seems fake. I can't take him as Bachelor. Like staring into the sun. So, maybe Ben. Guess we will soon find out!

LOL, I didn't think so, but if her reaction seemed anti-climatic, that might be because it wasn't her first reaction. She revealed in one of their interviews today that they had to edit out her first reaction because she fumbled all over her words, and what came out was gibberish. JP thought it was hilarious. I guess she must have been really excited.jlccaz wrote:No idea where to post basic reactions. JP is a grown up, and completely "done" -- he is ready to settle down, with her, right now. Another comment on ben and JP being together with Ash during the orphanage date...one of the clips shows Ashley putting her hand prints on Ben's shirt, and JP is in the background in the doorway, watching and laughing. He certainly was keeping his 'eye' on her!!! Wish they would have shown the sc with her wrapped around JPs leg!!! oh sigh...

And don't forget, they re-shoot the proposal over and over and over....

It seems she felt it was her job to protect Ashley from falling victim to the same Bachelor Bubble that caused her to mistakenly think she was in love with Brad last season. Ash also apparently told her family about the Bentley situation, so big sis was convinced that she needed to be the objective and rational one, since little sis' gut couldn't be trusted. Unfortunately, since she doesn't see Ashley as an adult, but as a bubbly carefree kid, the more mature, sedate (and nervous) Ashley she observed with JP was immediately judged as "wrong", whereas her juvenile behavior with Ben was "right". (And of course, she was so convinced she was correct that she never even gave JP a real chance to defend himself.) I don't doubt that Chrystie may have even pulled Ben aside and told him he for sure was "the one" and that Ashley was, in her opinion, in love with him, thus unintentionally putting Ben on the road to overconfidence and ultimate heartbreak. And Chrystie also put enough "doubt" in Ashley's head (combined with the bit of a stand off she had with JP after his MTP and their untimely separation for a few days after), that I think Ash really tried on her LCD with Ben to find any sort of passion with him to compare with JP, which led her to ramp up the kissing a little to no avail, I suspect. However, Ben then took this as further proof that she must now be in love with him. And thus, confidence becomes overconfidence, which clearly led him to "jump the gun" on the proposal, and totally ignore her body language, awkward silence and "sad face" (the same one we analyzed for weeks here!) when he first got to the podium.
I felt that Ben was more shocked than angry when he got turned down. He did wish her luck with JP, obviously it wasn't heartfelt, but at least he tried to be a little gracious. His cluelessness about how JP was the "safer choice" when the reverse was true was I guess just some attempt at rationalization, but I'll give him a break because making the poor guy leave in a dinghy couldn't have made it any less humiliating. And does anyone still think after seeing that producer decision that this wasn't all set up and orchestrated by them for maximum humiliation?
I totally agree with your conclusions, Ironcat, if the sister had not intervened I think that Ashley would have been secure in her decision and not needed to explore the relationship with Ben more deeply and he would probably not have been so confident. Although, I am not so sure if it would had made much of a difference. He was so wrapped up in what he was feeling, that he neglected to look at Ashley and ascertain what her feelings were at the FRC. I am sad for him because he still seems to be looking for excuses to justify his being overly confident and refuses to see the obvious connection between Ash and JP. Ryan said that after seeing the show he perfectly understands their connection, but Ben still doesn't see it. I always had the impression that Ben is still grieving and depressed over the loss of his father. I recognize the symptoms, since I have suffered from depression, too.

ironcat wrote:Regarding humor and making each other laugh, I think it's more important that a couple can laugh at the same things, regardless of who is making the jokes. And two people who are both constantly competing to be the "funny one" in the relationship can also be a problem.
As someone who constantly tries to see the humor in most things, I totally think it's important that a couple can laugh together, regardless of who is taking the lead, but I don't think it's the sole thing you need to look for in a relationship, the way Chrystie seemed to feel with her line of questioning.
Of course all of this is moot in a way, because we have certainly seen many instances on the show when JP has made Ashley laugh. I'm sure there will be much laughing and humor in their life together.
She laughed when he fell down rollerskating and in the outtakes when he broke the entertainment center.

They laughed at the HTD at the house alot. And when they plopped down in the sand when he lost his footing in the rain, she totally cracked up. He makes her laugh and smile alot. Animal voices I do with my 8 yr. niece, not my boyfriend. :giggle:
