You would think if she was as protective a big sister as she claimed to be, she would be looking for someone who would make sure her baby sister was treated right and taken care of, and she would have enquired of both guys more about their careers, future plans, emotional maturity, stability, etc. Nope, it was all about someone who could make her laugh (and unfortunately Ashley bungled that question, which immediately put Chrystie on alert), as if that was the only thing that mattered. And Ashley herself is such a bubbly person that what she really needs (and I think she figured it out) is someone to be a willing, appreciative, and loving straight man to her zaniness, just like JP. That's what JP means when he says they totally complement and balance each other.
ICAM. Would it have been okay if he was 60 yo old, unemployed, drank like a fish, and lived in a box but was the funniest, most hysterical person to Ash when sauced? Ridk. I really think she was jealous because such a great guy is so in love with her little sis and she's the "star" of their family, but I guess she got over it so good for her.
Big: You know, Manhattan has a lot of beautiful women.
Carrie: What an amazing observation!
Big: But the thing is, after awhile, you just wanna be with the one who makes you laugh.

A few thoughts on why I think this couple has a chance. I think we have to look at the couples who we could actually take serious (NOT Matt Grant, Jesse Palmer, Travis, PLo, etc).....
Tessa & Andy: probably didn't make it because she was so reluctant, she never really wanted to move, I always sensed hesitancy on her part.
Mary & Byron: sigh, the biggest disappointment....they seemed more in love than any other couple ever, and their proposal/FRC cannot be beat. Sadly, obstacles in their lives got in the way.
Jen & Andrew: they gave it a go, but he wasn't ready to let go of his guy roomates. That was a big red flag.
Mer & Ian: another couple who gave it a go. I think it was Ian who wasn't ever certain, that showed thru the whole show.
Sarah & Charlie: they were together a long time, again, but he had to grow up, and obstacles in their lives also got in the way.
Then we have Trista & Ryan, and Ali & Roberto: they decided to take that leap of faith, and go full force from day one. Much like Ashley & JP.
The thing that I could see happening is Ashley losing interest....I think she is in love with being in love. We will see if they are too different, or really meant to be. Only time will tell. I hope it works out for them, like it did for the last 2 couples I mentioned.
So do you think Ashley might have also lost interest in Ben, if he had been the one she fell in love with, for the same reason (that she is just "in love with being in love")?

I don't think there was anything in Ben that said he would not be a good partner/husband. Though he was goofy at times, he was also completely honest and utterly considerate/thoughtful. he will make a great spouse for the right person.

Absolutely a possibility. And what I was saying was I think they have a good chance, when you compare them to other Bach couples. But if they don't make it, IMO, that could be why.

Interesting point, juxtaposed against the SATC quote beneath it....

Good thing Mr. Big was rich, serious, and most importantly, scripted.

Carrie: What an amazing observation!

Its funny, rewatching their interaction it seems that JP is more in love with Ashley than she is with him (just a 'lil bit).
That being said, it also seems that the more she matures, the more she falls for him.
interesting how life is. They met eachother at the perfect time.

Regarding humor and making each other laugh, I think it's more important that a couple can laugh at the same things, regardless of who is making the jokes. And two people who are both constantly competing to be the "funny one" in the relationship can also be a problem.
As someone who constantly tries to see the humor in most things, I totally think it's important that a couple can laugh together, regardless of who is taking the lead, but I don't think it's the sole thing you need to look for in a relationship, the way Chrystie seemed to feel with her line of questioning.
Of course all of this is moot in a way, because we have certainly seen many instances on the show when JP has made Ashley laugh. I'm sure there will be much laughing and humor in their life together.

I never said there was. Only that Chrystie didn't appear to inquire of either guy anything that would shed more light on how prepared either was to be a responsible spouse. Considering her self appointed role as protector of her baby sister, I found that odd.
I did say that based solely on which guy would make a more amusing playmate, I felt Ben would win hands down (and I suspect Chrystie would agree with that).

In my experience, humor and laughter are way overrated...

Rich, totally agree. I'll take a guy who can knock my socks off with his kisses, kindness and passion over making me laugh all the time. We can go the comedy club to laugh.
