You know, I think the girls think they know what they are signing up for, but you don't really know the ramifications of something until you are actually in it yourself.  They all know that they can be portrayed however the producers want them to be, but I am sure most go into it thinking they can handle it and they will watch what they say and they will be fine.  I know Olivia has given them stuff to work with, but TPTB then manipulated that to the nth degree and made her much, much worse than she actually probably is.  The worst I can see is that she said the Teen Mom comment.  Olivia puts her foot in her mouth a lot, but when she saw how upset Amanda was, she tried to apologize.  What else is so bad?  She steals Ben away for some 1 on 1 time?  When Jo Jo or Jennifer did that, they weren't thrown under the bus.  Lauren (who's my favorite btw, so I am not saying this to slam her) practically had a 1 on 1 date during the group date last week, and that's okay?  If it was Olivia, she would have gotten roasted for it.  We've seen a lot of Olivia's PI's and she's talking about her connection with Ben.  I am sure there are PI's with Leah and Jennifer where they are talking about their amazing connection with Ben, but they are not shown, so they are not receiving the backlash that Olivia has been.  Also, her 1 on 1 time with Ben after he had lost his close friends in an airplane crash did not go as was portrayed.  Sharleen had what actually happened in her blog recap (which she was asked to take down by TPTB).  First Olivia consoled him over his loss and then she told him something positive that he had said to her to make her feel better and that is where the cankle conversation happened.  Sharleen also said that Olivia did not get the last rose at the ceremony, she was like 4th to last.  So TPTB made up all sorts of manufactured drama that episode and Olivia probably didn't even know what hit her.  She probably looks back on her behavior that episode and thought that there was no way they could turn her into a villain using that, but alas, they did.

Bottom line, I think these girls thought they knew what they were signing up for, but in reality they really didn't.  Yes, they probably knew they could be portrayed as the villain, but they also knew they could be F1 (long shot) or the next bachelorette (long shot) or more likely just a matter of time girl that got a little bit of screen time, made wonderful friends, got a chance to travel to some exotic locations, and become part of bachelor nation for years to come.  Nobody expects to be depicted as the villain... until they are.

People get themselves into all sorts of situations that they think they can handle, but in actuality they cannot.  I can't fault any of these girls for going on this show because if I were to fault Olivia (or any number of other negatively portrayed "villains"), then I would have to also fault even the most beloved contestants that go on this show.  In real life, the villains are not much different than the beloved contestants, imo.  Here on this board, we all know how much TPTB can manipulate things, but most that watch this show don't, and the general public falls for their tactics every season.  I just hope after this season is said and done, that Olivia pulls herself up by her bootstraps and moves on.  I hope she doesn't do BIP because I think TPTB would do the same thing to her as they did to her on the show.

ITA, Sable! Also, not one of the contestants or Ben in million years could have prepared themselves to the social media part, and bach live part of the show. The fact that there's a twitter account for 'Olivia's mouth' that has more followers than any of the ladies!! None of the ladies have done anything horrible that has been shown, to deserve TPBP painting them as horrible people. This villain Olivia sl has taken up over half the show. That's just way too much.

I so agree with you! I know that there has to be a villain every season, but, imo, TPTB just went too far this time. It's just not entertaining to me. It's enough that they are portraying her so badly on the show, but then they have to go to the after show and bully her even more. It's enough, imo!

It's called editing .. Editing .. Editing .. Tptb can pretty much edit any situation that is filmed into something they want to fit into any story board that hey have created .. No matter what context it occurs in. It can be edited into whatever they need .. Good example is what Olivia may have actually done vs what is actually shown .. Their edit has reason .. this occurs every season .. There has to be the villain edit to some degree .. For the drama .. Olivia will survive this .. Just like those in the past have .. Tho I totally agree .. Enough is enough

This is very true - however, some of these girls (and guys) are probably naive enough to think that they are decent people, and there wouldn't be anything they would do that could make them be shown as the villain. There is a chance that Olivia is a good-hearted person. But what comes out of her mouth can be misinterpreted and/or twisted, or she just accidentally says the wrong things. She probably didn't have a clue. Regardless, nobody deserves to be treated like this.

I'm so glad to see so many people feel as heartbroken for Olivia as I do. There are some great comments that have been posted.

They all should know by reading the contract what the producers and editors can do to them. They should all know by watching past seasons and following SM, what can be done.

This season we have Olivia as a learning tool for future contestants. Will they heed the warning? NO!!! They don't care because either they are too stupid or too tempted watching some of their contemporaries getting freebies from companies and schlepping stuff on their SM and walking red carpets and getting their pictures taken.

I am really torn because part of me says they deserve everything they get for their stupidity and greed and then we get a case like Olivia, where tptb go way over the top and even my cold heart feels a little bad for her.

Did someone tell Olivia to spread herself on two beds, or smell the rose and act like she's going to be the F1. I know editing is what makes up the show, however IMO behaviour sometimes also tells a story. The way she talks in her ITM's is probably why they are showing her more than the others. The others are probably too normal to show. She hams it up for the camera, and unfortunately they can spin that any way they want. Although Courtney was the F1, Olivia's behaviour reminds me of Courtney.

Going back over the years in Bach and ette history .. There has always been at least ONE character that goes over the top .. And is edited that way as well .. Between her behavior .. And her history of being on camera professionally .. She was the shoe in for this character portrayal

I know. I know. This is why I don't totally feel bad for her, but I can't help it, a part of me does. It's like I want to stop watching this show, but I can't help myself! I should know better, but I still do it!

I realize that the cast should know what they are in for but I feel with Olivia TPTB have gone too far.  Without a doubt she gave them ample fodder and they chose to hype it up.  However IMO TPTB jumped the shark by making derogatory comments about Olivia's physical appearance and hammering to death on the Olivia overkill. To me it smacks of bullying.....big time.  This is a socially awkward 23 year old woman.....not a criminal.  I find TPTB/ABC's behavior reckless.
