FS, we don need no stinkin fs! Sniff sniff... Nah, they'd just go about their business, openly sniffin butts & humpin away. Much like Kaitlyn did on her season!Kashathediva wrote:Imagine what would go on in the FS? NO--let's not imagine!

AAL you seem to know a lot about Tedx. This is the first I have ever heard about this organization. Do you know what is involved with getting a license? and how speakers are chosen?
It seems to be a serious organization and I get that bullying is a hot topic currently, but Kaitlyn as an anti bullying spokesperson? Ridiculous. I can see her speaking about her time on the Bachelor and her experiences as the Bette. A light, fluffy bit of snark. But, on something serious, where I haven't seen much indication of her actually working to improve the situation??? Admittedly, she spoke a bit about the subject on the MTA, but honestly I didn't really buy it. Not that she didn't have nasty trolls...pretty much anyone on SM does these days...it's just that I though she was using that as a way to create sympathy to downplay some of the backlash she was getting as a result of her behaviour.
Thanks for enlightening me on something I know nothing about. Who says you can't learn anything from reality tv?

Nothing. Being a speaker at a TEDx event is a privilege and honor, in and of itself. Absolutely no money can be paid to speakers nor can any money be raised at TEDx events for individuals, charities, etc. Only attendees can be charged money (no more than $100) which must solely go to the event itself.rhondam wrote:What type of money would she make for an event like this?

Serious question, has she lashed out anyone recently on SM? I saw her respond to a negative comment recently and it seems rationally thought out , like she held her tongue a little. But maybe I missed something. I wonder if prepping for this talk changed her tune a little.

Not to get too off-topic and sorry for long post, but just some info about TEDx and what it means for Kaitlyn speaking (and speaking solely from someone who is on a TEDx committee and has selected speakers)...Sprite wrote:AAL you seem to know a lot about Tedx. TEDx is independent from TED, however every license holder for TEDx event applies for a license and if their TEDx event has more than 100 people attending then the license holder must have attended a TED conference. To attend a TED conference it costs $8500 and the applicant needs to have demonstrated leadership in their field and who can make a strong contribution (Source) in said field to their community and the world at large. To say it is not easy to just attend this conference is an understatement. It's also why TEDx and TED are very, very different.
Because I assume that TEDx Vancouver will have more than 100 attendees, I suspect the person who holds the license (which has to be applied for and is only valid for 1 year, so it has to be renewed and renewal can be rejected by TED if TEDx Rules aren't adhered to) will have put together a organizing/selection committee. It is this organizing committee that is responsible for securing and approving speakers and not TED itself.
If there are problems or TEDx Rules are not adhered to, and has been the case before, TED can revoke the license and not approve it for future annual renewals. Whomever is putting together TEDx Vancouver, someone on the committee (so not necessarily the person with the license) "sold" the idea of having Kaitlyn as a speaker. That she is talking about Online Bullying as posted by LB and HuffPostBC makes me think this is what is being spun. However, other than her just being a recipient of this (as are many, many who are on SM), I am perplexed as to how it has been demonstrated that Kaitlyn has actively engaged in being a leader and/or working towards making a difference in her community and the world when it comes to Online Bullying that would show she is a leader or someone who has inspired changed for this cause.
While it may seem "cool" or "fun" or whatever, based on TEDx Rules for speakers and the standards to which they should be upheld to, it blows my mind Kaitlyn is speaking at such an event - especially on this topic. Anyone can spin something and exaggerate their influence and accomplishments, it happens all the time, it is just that in Kaitlyn's case her speech (in order to even remain loosely factual) will have to be about what she hopes (future tense) to accomplish rather than what she has already accomplished (which is what it should be on). And that, in itself, is why she really should not be given the privilege and honor of speaking on a topic that is very important but for which she has yet to accomplish anything on that demonstrates leadership or change, IMHO, and IA it is ridiculous that she can be seen as a role model for anti-bullying.

She's still not practicing what she preaches by responding to these comments. Does she ever reply to positive comments? Seems to me like she's solely focused on the negative.

Holding one's tongue and not lashing out on SM is just common sense for a 30 year old and is not and should not be the standard for being a TEDx speaker for anti-bullying.bleuberry wrote:Serious question, has she lashed out anyone recently on SM? TEDx is about giving a platform to those who have made a difference and actually accomplished something on the topic they are supposed to be an expert in to inspire their community and the world to further make a positive impact.
That Kaitlyn is being touted as an "ambassador" is a total joke, IMHO, and while it is definitely a good thing for Kaitlyn to stop lashing out on SM, I hardly think this qualifies her to be an ambassador or spokesperson for anti-bullying which, as TEDx speaker, is exactly what she is being put on a platform as. That Kaitlyn is the example and standard role model for TEDx Vancouver for anti-bullying is just beyond comprehension to me.

Is it possible she will discuss her own lapses in judgement in how she has handled past issues? Maybe she will touch on this, what to do and what not to do.

I know, I know, there will always be a more ideal response, baby steps I guess? Hopefully she's on her way to ignoring them completely.

Based on her BT interview this week it doesn't seem likely that her stance will be "What Not To Do" and using herself as an example of what not to do since she stated on her BT interview that she ignores and never attacks, just asks why - two things which there is evidence in these threads from the past 6 months as not being the case.Kashathediva wrote:Is it possible she will discuss her own lapses in judgement in how she has handled past issues? Maybe she will touch on this, what to do and what not to do.
And even then, what has she actually done to make a difference? She's had 6 months to have established something, anything. Off the top of my head..
- She could have used money she earned in starting a foundation or charity or website focused solely on this issue with a YT channel dedicated to making a change.
- While traveling, meet up with followers/fans who are victims of cyber bullying and have them as guest speakers on her own site/YT channel to give them a voice and showcase what average non-tv stars are going through.
- Network with charities and causes whose focus are about bringing change to cyber bullying and highlight those on her SM and website.
- Conduct YT web-seminars or open discussion with her followers on IG with links to her site on steps to take to bring about change.
- Use her IG account to highlight followers/fans and perhaps they have a message of what they have gone through. Even something as simple as holding a piece of cardboard with what they have dealt with and a link to a charity or cause that helps to change cyber bullying or her own foundation.
- Perhaps post a 1-3 step way to respond to cyber bullying that is impactful or kind -- so a kind message response to hate tweets/hate IG comments.
- Highlight each week or month someone in each city she is in, someone who has made a difference in their community or someone who truly suffers from cyber bullying in a life-threatening way and how they have overcome this.
- Have a percentage of her apparel items go to a charity that helps with raising awareness and helping those who are victims of cyber bullying.
I mean, there are so many ways to have done something in 6 months time that she could have done and used her platform while she was still in the limelight to make a difference. And the point is that these things should be public and not behind the scenes since how does that raise awareness? I digress... it's just a sad state of affairs to me.
