I like this weird conversation- they're used to telling each other everything I think so they can't communicate when there's a big elephant in the room imo.

The segment was just part of the plot to create doubt with the audience IMO. They probably cut to a part where it got quiet between them for a bit, probably not sequential to when she first greeted Shawn, again JMO
