Agree Kashoo, the brainwashing techniques of TPTB, I'd doubt if my mother was my own mother on that show (even though I know she is) the way TPTB infer and twist stuff to make you wonder about everything. All JP had to hold onto was what he knew what he felt between them starting in HK, but until she said ILY and Yes to the proposal, he probably had some small doubts, esp. after her sister confronted him.

I may be alone in thinking this, but I do believe JP realized after the HK date that he was on a completely different level with Ashley than any of the other guys, and while he, as a result felt pretty certain he would be her F1 at that point, that's also when the jealousy started to get to him and he just wanted it to be over, even though he knew that not only couldn't it be, but that he was going to have to "play along" somewhat with the premise of the show, which is that Ashley was falling for multiple guys, not just him. I do think they both said their ILYs privately in the FS, but realized that they couldn't divulge that to anyone, because again, it's not the way the show works, and so he did have to pretend to some extent, to be more nervous and unsure than he was from that point on. But since, as kashoo just said, the producers were probably always asking leading questions trying to get him to voice his insecurities anyway, it made it easier to just give them what they wanted, and go along with the idea that he hadn't yet divulged his feelings but was waiting for the right time (to do it for the cameras, anyway). And no doubt he still was a nervous wreck from knowing she needed to still act romantic with the other guys, so the discomfort from those insecurities was probably real. And I definitely think the Chrystie issue threw him for an additional serious loop, and he wondered if Ash could, despite everything, possibly change her mind just because of her sister's disapproval.

Anyway, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it (and I suspect we'll never get further clarification from the couple anyway, or at least for 2 years!) :hidingchair
