SalesForce is a philanthropic company with a 1-1-1 model (developed by its CEO). Employees annually give 1% of their work time to charities of their own choosing.

Also, Nick's first job out of college was working for a nonprofit around local hunger so over the last decade I imagine he would have built a network with likeminded charitably orientated individuals.

I ride in AIDS LifeCycle (7 days - 545 miles) and also MS Wine to Waves (2 days - 175 miles) and both have large Sales Force teams. They are allowed to use up to 3 hours a week of office time to train and their participation time, if it falls on work days, is paid.

There are some very cute exchanges on tweeter between Nick, Jackly S and Jac Vanek about "whipping and nae neaing". I had to ask my teenage son what it was, but before he explained to me, he asked "how did you know about it?" I just couldn't tell him I stalked fan girling a reality tv contestant whom I've never met. If you are a middle aged mom like me, whipping and nae neaing are some dance moves, and I wouldn't mind seeing Nick doing it.

Wow, thanks NR, eirekay for that info on Nick and Salesforce. No wonder it is Nick's dream job. Sounds like a company that really cares about its employees and has a Google type atmosphere (team minded and emphasis on work-life balance and fun + giving back a part of that model).

Whipping and nae neaing is a reference to horses, right?? We used to do a dance like that when I was young, pretended that we were riding on horses... makes sense.
