I respect you for stating your opinion and appreciate you for posting what you do. That doesn't mean that I have to share it though, and I see the edit telling a very different story. The notion that "the hidden edit is F1" may be an obsolete concept these days which seem more focused on story telling rather than gimmicks like "whose glass is held higher at a rose ceremony".

As recently as the HTD last show, I saw a very poignant and gritty story about Ben - coming to a better grip on the reality of his father's death and his reaction to it. After 5 years of living with this that he is finally able to talk about it with his mother is a huge step towards leaving that in the past and getting closure on it. I can see just why the show chose to show us this instead of other things they might have included - it was the highlight of the date. But I also saw in Ashley's blog that she felt nervous and intimidated by Ben's mother and that isn't quite a positive reaction in my view. And perhaps most importantly, Ben's story is all about Ben's journey - it has little or nothing to do with Ashley's journey other than she happened to be along for the ride when it happened.

As I watched JP's HTD, I saw discussions about why JP's family might be skeptical of Ashley (and Ashley herself in her blog stated an even deeper reason why she was concerned about meeting JP's family) and indeed they were. But I also saw Ashley convince JP's mother that she should not be so concerned, that she was smitten with JP. I saw JP convince his brother that he knows what he is risking but is convinced that he has to take the risk and that it's worth the risk, even if it ends in heartbreak. This is also gritty and real. But it is totally central to Ashley and her journey and the role that JP plays in that journey. And at the end of it, all of JP's family supports the couple and Ashley blogs that her own biggest fear was nothing to be fearful of.

To my eye this is very clearly a night and day difference in the story telling and in the edit.

very well-written, thoughtful post! As a Ben fan, I admit, you may well be right on all counts.... ?????

I for one watched the first few episodes before finding out the spoilers. I believe i've common sense and simple logic to form my own opinion. Why is it insisted that a JP fan believes he is F1 because of some infamous blogger? WHY?!

I twisted the arm of my unspoiled friend by making her watch the 8 episodes straight. My questions were simple: "who do you want for yourself and who do you think Ash's F1".

on episode 5 "i like Mickey and Ames! William is annoying!"

She called me up at episode 6, "It's JP that Ash chooses!"
I asked how about Ben F? She answered, "Ben F who?"

At episode 7, she texted me, "i'm torn between Ben F and JP. I'll decide at episode 8"

At episode 8, she was so smittened with Ben F

but for her it is clear, Ash chooses JP"

Why is it often reiterated that viewers see JP as F1 BECAUSE of RS? WHY?! :headbanging

As someone posted upthread, it is insulting. And then we wonder why our posts are met with sarcasm?

i agree that one's poster can be passionate with his/her point/s of view that is why a heated discussion is inevitable. It happens in whatever forum.

However, we do not need the supreme court to see if one's posts are neutral or not.

One of the biggest problems I see is that we have ppl with many sources. Blondiegal is always complete dispassionate when she posts what her sources have told her. On another hand Coastal has made it abundantly clear that she is not dispassionate. In order to be credible as a provider of spoilers you have to disassociate yourself from who it is you WANT to win.

RS doesn't care who wins, he provides the information he has been given and that is it. However, RS does have "a horse in this race", his horse is his website and income from said website. Coastal continues to do the same but not in a dispassionate manner. Only time will tell whether Coastal's or RS's sources are correct.

To the extent that Coastal might seem less than dispassionate, it seems to me her passion is originating in her frustration about how people are oftentimes dismissive of info which she finds (for better or worse) eminently credible....

To address another issue, I don't claim to be representative of all spoiled viewers, but I confess RS' spoilers last season got me to look more closely at Chantal, a personality type for whom I've not typically rooted. I tend to root for the underdog, &/or the shy, quiet ones. I was glad, in a way, cause I found myself completely won over by Channy, and am now so excited for her & Jeff. I knew RS had said JP, and yes, I saw chemistry there, but this time was not sucked up into it - maybe could be something as simple as he's not my physical type? I totally get that not everyone is swayed by spoilers - but would likewise assert that spoilage can sometimes have its impact. The rest is editing's job, imho.

Cari, amiga -my take on this is that those posters will soon be eating crow because it is going to be JP in the end. I am curious what the comments will be after the finale airs. I kinda like it that there is someone who blindly believes that it is Ben...keeps me amused with their comments. They are entitled to their opinions of course. So my friend.. relax and eat a cupcake, just over a week to go till JP and Ash Day. handwave
