I thought JP also discussed his dating history at another point before his first 1-1 date. It might have been posted in the Sleuthing thread. I remember we had a discussion about the different things he said.

New York...is fascinating. I love it, but have found myself taking a step back from all it has to offer as I've gotten older. More than anything...to save me from myself!! LOL!
very understandable! Even having visited NYC for a short number of days in a week -- you can pick up the air of that importance some people place on status and access, or namedropping...I guess that's why they call it the city that dreams are made of everyone's trying to get somewhere. I wonder if there may be parody blogs that would write alterate views on that scene you wrote so articulately about cfck2222 and I do wonder why the image of this kind of jaded perspective on life overshadows the likes of the idealists and dreamers...

From JP's fan FB:
:27:
Last month I was in the next town and everyone was gathering around looking at someone and they said it was JP. Sure looked like him from afar. People were talking and they said he is one happy guy. Hope it because of Ashley
:27:
Big: You know, Manhattan has a lot of beautiful women.
Carrie: What an amazing observation!

JP has no business to promote. He doesnt own anything or even work anywhere that would benefit from his exposure .... unless you watch TBette and want to renovate a historical building into condos or remodel a gallery.
Fun and possibilities sound logical.
The one article I read on that Laney chick said she had recently broken off with her real estate guy and that article was written in 2009, so if that is JP they are talking about, then it wasn't 6 yrs ago. The article also mentioned that it was a tumultuous relationship which goes along with his "we weren't good for each other'.

She's obviously a bright woman, but sounds extremely jaded, kind of cold and bitchy, and basically out for a good time and to promote herself. It's a typical NYC type I'm well aware of, from living in Manattan forever myself. She also seems like the type who would be into playing a lot of games with the guys she dates. Fun and exciting, but not the kind of girl you settle down with, not that she couldn't change in a few years (she's 27 I think). From where I'm sitting, JP is far too sweet and sincere a guy for her, but she probably thinks that he found her irresistable and therefore, couldn't possibly be interested in a sweet, less sophisticated girl like Ashley.
Yeah, DABA was just a joke but the two of them really sound like it's their lifestyle. I wonder if they know Julia Allison as they're all of the same ilk. Ugh. Ashley is nothing like that and he's so much better off with her sweet, sensitive, and caring nature than the Julia Allison/Laney types of women who are complete gold diggers and love the games.
OMG Julia Allison is exactly who I thought of when I read this story in the 1st place and IMO that's who these girls were aspiring to be! I totally remember this story when it came out but I'd forgotten the names of the people involved so it didn't even click at first. They sort of want to be Sex & The City next gen and they're kind of about social climbing.
No wonder JP gave Glamour that quote about no more drama!
I definitely have opinions about that whole scene in that it's one I've made sure I steer clear of being a New Yorker. Though I can understand why it might have some initial allure for some people. If JP really said that scene had gotten stale like emusha's saying then I totally get it, I've seen friends go through that whole thing. I always liked JP for being a hometown boy but now suddenly it feels like I understand him even better as far as being able to put things into context LOL. I know that sounds crazy. Ashley's not that kind of girl at all from what we've seen and she'd be so much better for him!
That doesn't sound crazy at all! I think I get him a lot better now -- even though I think he has many layers we haven't yet unpeeled (ala Ames' onion metaphor) e.g. UMich times, Australia months? years? in his life... but one thing is for sure his $6000 price tagged Cartier watch makes a LOT more sense along with his wardrobe particulars though I do think he's truly down to earth and genuine
I'm completely curious now about this whole DABA 'type' girls in NYC -- maybe it may give more context for how JP is like if you all familiar with the NYC scene can tell us a bit more (gotta admit I find it very fascinating to learn about such a sub-culture if u will 8) )
So what exactly are we to take away from all of this? JP's parents and home did not appear to be that wealthy. Are we saying, on the other hand, JP is doing quite well financially?

Thank you so much for the great reception to my post about the whole socialite subculture in NY! :flowerhearts:
I feel like I should defend my city too though, not that anybody was criticizing it! For every person who's into that subculture there's at least five New Yorkers if not more who thinks it's dumb and shallow and lacking in the grit and realism that's REAL New York. New York's a VERY diverse city just like you'd expect and the scene is in a niche, just one that happens to get a lot of media attention because media attention is what it's about. That's also why the blog phenomena fed into the scene so naturally. It's interesting to ponder.
I think you may be right about JP and Ashley too!
As far as JP I definitely agree with Alanna and emusha that he's not jaded or status conscious enough to fit into the "scene" long term and it makes so much sense he got tired of it. I do think he's got friends that might interact with the scene some especially on the media side. Wasn't it a publicist friend of his who volunteered him to be on B'ette? I almost feel like I can understand that better now too - it's easy to feel like you've hit a dead end dating wise in New York because you're stuck in a certain niche and so you need to shake things up and try something new. So why not this? Fun and possibilities, just like jelle said. It seems like things wound up going better and more serious than JP probably expected!

I forgot to include that but definitely! You've got the new generation internet entrepreneurs who are the new hipsters (who could use the investments from people with money) and the finance guys who are usually a little more conservative. Maybe the best way to describe the scene is it's where old money meets new money and it's all about the trends.Alanna wrote:Awesome synopsis, cfck!! You're so good! I think Laney meant that JP had "unrealistic expectations" in that she thinks he's "naive" about love and how relationships are supposed to be. I think he's found the perfect candidate to be "naive" alongside him in love though so good luck to Laney finding a jaded dude if that's what she's after. :greenman:

Definitely you're getting heightened reality versions of the scene on shows like Gossip Girl.emusha wrote:Thanks so much for sharing that cfck! As for our JP -- His comment about a "stale NY dating scene" totally makes sense if he even encountered a few of those Laney types and dated a few of them even for a little bit. He openly admitted he's dated girls only 2-3months in his 20ies (safe to assume he dated a lot?) and I've seen a couple of photos of him at events - so he probably socializes a good amount (wasn't he also said to have dated a girl in PR?) This whole perspective on life and status can definitely jade people and Ashley is anything but jaded (tho she did say this show has exposed her to the negative things about ppl and thus jaded her a bit) -- I can imagine how he can be totally drawn to her and find her extremely relatable especially given how open, honest, real and genuine she seems
remember their exchange at the skating rink " wine in paper cups -- not very classy" and ash said "oh it's fine we're at a skating rink!" she's a lot more low maintenance and he is able to open up to her about his feelings and be vulnerable in a more real way than people like the Laneys would allow given the whole game playing approach they take to 'landing' well endowed guys -- and I'm totally unsurprised that laney would have the things we saw in her tweets to say about him "Oh maybe he's like this cos he falls in love without regard to reality"

My guess is the family is quite comfortable, but they're just not very ostentatious people. They have lived in that house 33 years, according to JP, and they probably moved in, with two small boys, before they became as affluent as they are now. Also, real estate in Roslyn is expensive, so that house is worth more than you think.
I believe as JP's dad is/was in RE, that they also own quite a bit of resort property somewhere in the Caribbean. And possibly elsewhere that we don't know about.

Well, that was not meant to be a slight on them as I am sure they have worked hard for their money; however, I just simply can not help it! I think a $6,000 watch is ridiculous, and I don't care if we are talking about President Obama or Billy Graham.
I have already forgotten the cost of that room per night, but that makes no sense either. At least, that is a promotional deal...

I gotta confess though I was reading the DABA blog and it's hilarious and entertaining if you look at it for the parody aspect...and actually very well written - witty biting, good dialogue (in the way that Tina Fey captured the dialogue of mean girls' in high school or even in line with Gossip girls) I wouldn't mind watching a show based on the blog (total guilty pleasure - of mindless entertainment)... it's a parody on that lifestyle that would be hilarious given the blog doesn't really take itself too seriously. but also it's a look into a life and world that's totally alien...
Having read the blog I'll have to say it's more a ploy to get some sort of gig out of it than anything real... and it reads like it is trying to emulate the likes of SATC or Gossip girls even with the style of writing which is almost a direct adaptation (the code language, the sarcastic humor and countless mentions about labels and brands)...
Anyways sorry to take up so much space talking about this - i just find it intriguing (fun to learn something new when u least expect it) and even more intriguing that JP intersected with that world (I wonder which world graham was living in while he was in NYC)
That's right that a publicist friend of JP's got him on the show  It is hard to figure out JP's financial standing but some of the signs (including associating with this crowd - if he did - and his 6K watch) would indicate he's comfortable...

Ashley and guys refurbished the orphanage, Andy Baldwin rebuilt a playground in LA. Does anyone remember other projects that the show has done. I am sure there are some I cannot remember ....
