I think there are an awful lot of assumptions being made about the ex and the realtionship. JP was evidently devastated to the point that his family was very concerned (it seems) and obviously they were not on the same page in the relationship.

If this girl keeps her mouth shut, no one will know who she is. If his ex is the same Laney Crowell from the articles, she is certainly an interesting character and I got a chuckle out of the articles. If she is not that person - I still think the articles are interesting - gutsy girls

If this gal would just lay low and blend in, there is a very good possibility that she might come through this without being identified. Of course, if she stands up and yells, "Me, me, me," everybody is going to know that she is that one out of the millions.
Kinda reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tell Heart." Another oldie but goodie truism is "Be sure your sins will find you out." Ironically, you might be the one to do it?

DABA sounds scandalous - can't believe people are starting to put their dating lives out there and talk clearly about their gold-digging ways like that... you're right interesting reading indeed. Also interesting that DABA girl would date JP -- which would mean he's doing quite well for himself...? (or he wasn't doing so well for himself so she "blew him off" in her words)
I found it humorous that she responded she "doesn't kiss and tell" to possenista who asked her if she was referring to herself and JP in her tweet about JP falling in love without regard to reality when she did evidently "kiss and tell" on a regular basis on this DABA blog!!

I thought the whole DABA thing is something that Laney and her lawyer friend just made up for publicity and kicks; not like it's an actual club with members who met regularly. And the NYT got snookered into believing it was legitimate and then had to retract the article.

She's obviously a bright woman, but sounds extremely jaded, kind of cold and bitchy, and basically out for a good time and to promote herself. It's a typical NYC type I'm well aware of, from living in Manhattan forever myself. She also seems like the type who would be into playing a lot of games with the guys she dates. Fun and exciting, but not the kind of girl you settle down with, not that she couldn't change in a few years (she's 27 I think). From where I'm sitting, JP is far too sweet and sincere a guy for her, but she probably thinks that he found her irresistable and therefore, couldn't possibly be interested in a sweet, less sophisticated girl like Ashley.

I think you may be right -- she has a new blog out where she gives fashion advice... quite ridiculous that NYT did a feature on them and were forced to retract it... ohh some ppl these days do anything for exposure and to get 'ahead' -- it's almost like a REALITY blog -- it's just not on TV...

kind of telling the JP was dating these types in his past...so glad he found someone as genuine and real as he is to be with! Remember JP's comment about how the NY dating scene has gotten a bit stale? No wonder he would say that if he was dating the Laney types :Nod:

OMG Julia Allison is exactly who I thought of when I read this story in the 1st place and IMO that's who these girls were aspiring to be! I totally remember this story when it came out but I'd forgotten the names of the people involved so it didn't even click at first. They sort of want to be Sex & The City next gen and they're kind of about social climbing.

No wonder JP gave Glamour that quote about no more drama!

I definitely have opinions about that whole scene in that it's one I've made sure I steer clear of being a New Yorker. Though I can understand why it might have some initial allure for some people. If JP really said that scene had gotten stale like emusha's saying then I totally get it, I've seen friends go through that whole thing. I always liked JP for being a hometown boy but now suddenly it feels like I understand him even better as far as being able to put things into context LOL. I know that sounds crazy. Ashley's not that kind of girl at all from what we've seen and she'd be so much better for him!

Her parents live in a very wealthy suburb here in Chicago and she's friends with the Lettuce/Melman family that Jed is also friends with so she's around a lot, and I've seriously never heard a kind word about her.

JP is so much better off with a sweet, nerdy girl who doesn't care about his money and jumps around squealing when she's happy. LOL. They're both very lucky to have found each other. :nuzzle:
