I have always suspected that Ryan was originally supposed to get the HK date, but Ashley, after kicking Bentley to the curb, wanted to have alone time with JP to tell him, so they switched his date which was planned for the following week (which might have even been planned to be the overnight date, although I suspect the producers wanted Ben to have a chance to "catch up" with him and would have insisted he have that one regardless) to the shorter, dinner date that week. And as has been often said, we have no idea how late in the evening (or early morning) that date ended.

On to HTDs. What time did JP's start? Maybe, due to scheduling issues, it started in the morning, while the other dates started in the afternoon. And if his date ended just before sunset and Ben's ended just after sunset, it may have been a difference of only a couple of hours at most. And something else that nobody's mentioned on any of these dates, is how much time is actually spent with Ashley vs on long breaks with the crew setting up or finagling with the shot, or pulling the people aside to give PIs and whatnot. Some of those dates may have taken hours and hours, but more due to production "issues" than because the couple was spending extra quality time together.

I am a few pages behind, so y'all might be on to something else here, but I wanted to comment on the bolded. When Ashley and JP were sitting at the roller skating rink, I could clearly see on JP's watch that it was 10:30!!! I was stunned that they would start so early in the day, as they had already done a lot by that time. I am guessing they met up at 0830 hrs, so their date did turn out to be quite long. Sorry for the interruption, now back to your regularly scheduled topic of the day. :D Thanks

Someone looked on the time stamp of the pics from JP's and Ben's dates and they both started at the same time so Ben's was longer. I thought JP's watch showed 11:30 a.m. when she greeted him but it was fast. They went to his parent's house around 3 p.m. and she probably left around 6 or so. They cut out Ben & Ashley riding bikes to Sonoma to shop for their picnic and the actual picnic before it rained. Shopping was before noon with the winery tour afterward, the picnic was around 2 p.m. and they walked into his mom's at 7 so there was a lot of time together we didn't see.

I wish I could do a screen caps. Hope someone can help out. After their initial greeting when JP is explaining they are going to do something he did as a kid growing up (1 hour 17 minutes) they turn and we see them holding hands his watch says 8:15. My guess is that if they were not at the roller rink until later that they were walking around doing something else and just didn't show it. It is interesting that right before she finds out what they are going to be doing she said "To be honest, I don't care what we are doing today. As long as we are together. I could walk down the street for 3 hours and be just as happy as doing something extravagant." To the bolds I would think if it was 11:30 she would have said this afternoon, not today, and walking down the street for 3 hours may have been what they did before bowling. Not literally walking for 3 hours, but maybe stopping in to get coffee and/or breakfast and just talking.

They arrived at Ben's mom's house at 7 p.m. so had to be around 10 that Ashley left with dinner, talking, PI's, etc.

I think they must set up the meal portion with the family so they know when to cook for so doubt they changed anything due to rain with Ben's date. All of the pics up until the porch ones were in the sun.

The biking was to Sonoma to shop for the picnic items and the tour of the winery was obvious. The rest was a picnic. Maybe Ashley wanted more time with Ben doing things that mean something to him?

Ahh interesting -- I think we've being shown a consistent pattern here. Ben is getting a jam-packed, lots of activity dates vs. JP who's getting mellow dinner and hangout, maybe sightseeing dates ... It would be telling based on what Ashley prefers. the many activities also involve a lot of camera setup etc.. like ironcat mentioned so it's not beyond the realm of possibilities that many activities involves lots of setup and cleanup for the filming as well and thus longer dates...

It seems to be a pattern emerging in recent seasons... Emily also got very low-energy, less activity type dates. Don't recall this for Ali's or Jill's season... (tactfully jumping over the Pavelka season there cos I didn't watch nor have any interest in that season)

LOL! That comment struck me when I heard it.

This part is not in reply to your post. She gave him another date because she felt bad that she was in a funk on their first date. She was trying to make it up to him.
I know if I'm into a guy initially, first night, and I'm really positive that the majority too...won't be carrying on over another guy. That initial, first night guy will have my focus.
