At the beach the sun is very bright so I think it was natural for Andi to wear sunglasses. If not she probably would have been squinting.  



IMO both photos are an expression of how she felt the moment they were taken.

I believe in San Diego with her sister. The comments from people saying they have been there and some mention San Diego.
