Glad your commute is history! I don't have patience for that.

Re: General Chit Chat
I don't know how people live like that commuting every day. It's been years since I was on the road, but it was never that bad.
bean - those are great cities to visit. You should try and get to Ottawa. It doesn't matter any more what time of the day, it's always a major headache. At one time you could plan your route to avoid traffic but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. Or you can take the toll road 407 for part of the way. Less stress, traffic moves along and often times there aren't that many vehicles around.
Once you get past Toronto, you are entering as we call it, "up north" which is beautiful.

I love Northern Ontario. We drove through it once on our way from Regina. Our best friends live in Kitchener so love to visit them and my BIL lives in Georgetown. It's his idea to head to Ottawa and visit 2 sisters so he'd come with us. We used to live in Belleville.

Right I remember you used to live in Belleville. BTW a hockey player from the London Knights got picked by the Leafs in the NHL draft.
That sounds like a great trip. Visiting with friends family and seeing beautiful scenery.

Re: General Chit Chat
I was just planning a trip to Ottawa before I checked in here. I have my aunt visiting from Split Croatia and will take her there and Quebec City.
Anyone have any must see/do things in either? I'm looking at spending about 2 1/2 days in each.

Re: General Chit Chat
You have to have a beaver tail. They are so gooood!!
I enjoyed touring the parliment buildings, as boring as it sounds, it was really a nice tour. The buildings are gorgeous. It's been years since I've been there, but we went to ByWard outdoor market that was fantastic, and took a boat ride on the Rideau.
Quebec City was a blur for me. I went years ago during the Winter Carnival. I just about froze to death. Everyone was drunk except me. It's a beautiful city, I loved it. My highlight, we heard there was an GMA? maybe another TV station, can't remember, that was doing a special on pond hockey and Gordie Howe was going to be there. He was on our plane going there so we were excited. We got up at 5am put on our snowmobile suits (that's how cold it was) and headed to the pond. I photobombed a pic my friend was taking of Gordie Howie, it was a planned photo bomb. I have tons of pic's from that trip. In the days you actually developed pictures.
Sounds like a great trip Sprite. Your aunt will love Quebec, it's reminds me so much of Europe.

I'm hosting a potluck lunch at my house tomorrow so am making a banner that combines Canada Day & Independence Day.

Dare I ask what a beaver tail is? It can't possibly be as bad as what my imagination is conjuring up.

Re: General Chit Chat
bean: living close to the border we have a lot of Canadians with dual flags on their front porches. We also have a lot of Americans that have cottages on the Canadian side along Lake Erie. Many plan to take the rest of the week off so they can enjoy with their American friends when the 4th rolls around.
Beaver Tails are fried pastry in the shape of a Beaver Tail which is Canada's national animal. The first time I had one was in Ottawa. There are shops scattered across Canada. You can have whatever you want on them, or just sugar and cinnamon.

Re: General Chit Chat
I've never had a Beaver Tail, GA. The other thing I get when I'm back are Coffee Crisps. Love them.
