MarriedAtFirstSight - Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers** Thread #2 - Page 34 Empty Re: Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers** Thread #2

Vaughn and Monet wanted a "traditional" marriage but they live in a modern world.

MY definition of true traditional marriage is:
1)Man brings home the bacon.
2)He does the yard.
3) He fixes things around the house
4) Occasionally helps out with the kids, and house chores.

The woman:
1) Takes care of the house
2)cooks & cleans
3)takes care of the children
4) may pitch in with some part time work.

This is what they had:
1)Vaughn's job did NOT provide for the family, and he was not motivated to do so
2)Vaughn wanted to "relax", and have sex all day.
3) Vaughn wanted a cooked meal.
4)Beotchy Monet because she got to be a superwoman, bringing the bacon, expected to wait on her huzzzband, and feed his ego, which she didn't respect.

Once Vaughn picked up on Monet's attitude (that he's not her knight in shining armor) there was no way he was going to play house. The entire relationship failed.

They both should have made their needs clear. Vaughn wanted to be taken care of, regardless of the monetary contribution he makes to the family....so that's not being fully traditional. Monet wanted a guy with a GREAT paying job, so she can have kids right away. Believe it or not, I know a lot of  Vaughn's out there.

I think Monet realized that she cannot respect a man with a mediocre job. I'm not sure that Vaughn STILL doesn't want to be taken care of....on a dime ;)

MarriedAtFirstSight - Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers** Thread #2 - Page 34 Empty Re: Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers** Thread #2

Monet did a good job of putting Vaughn down claiming he is not an established man, whatever that means. If the career aspect was so important to her, then she should have specified exactly what she wanted, movie star? doctor? Is that what it takes for her to fall in love? No wonder the comment was made by KF about loving for money or something to that effect.

He was in the military for 11 yrs, he had a full time job that required long hours, and commuting after he moved in with Monet. What exactly is the issue that he can't bring home the bacon? She was obviously more concerned about catching a "trophy husband" mixed in with some fame from the show?

JET: What is it you do in case viewers don’t remember?
V: So I am a field service technician….I have kind of a long title.  The easiest way to describe it is a field technician on industrial devices and I am in the National Guard.  Yeah,  I work hard and drive a lot.

JET: What, for you, was the turning point for you and Monet’s relationship?
V: There was a time when I came back, and she wanted to have a girls’ night that made me really upset.  You have to realize that things are sometimes shown out of order. That incident actually happened after she told me I wasn’t as established as  a man.  She said that, and then I had all these long car rides, and it kept replaying.  I can’t get over that as a man.  I’m someone who takes pride in his work, and I feel accomplished in things I’ve done. I was essentially put with somebody that doesn’t match on a lot of levels and, on top of that, looks down on me as a man.  I didn’t want to fight anymore.  I knew it wasn’t worth fighting for.

Monet seems to believe that "established" means "job that pays at least as much as mine and garners at least as much respect as mine."

Just give me something that looks like a real love story to help me escape into my own version of fantasy for a while. And maybe against the odds one of those stories will actually survive real life. Nothing wrong with a little hope, right?

From what I recall and from re reading yesterdays posts nobody commented on what the host of the program said at the end. Did I just miss the big announcement, was it discussed here, or did you guys not see it.?
The host said, two of the couples are in a great married relationship and we will all be curious to continue to see how this experiment works, so look for married FOR ONE YEAR  of course I'm paraphrasing the hosts words)
They are going to continue to follow Jamie and Doug and Jason and Cortney through this next 6 months. How exciting.  love the idea that the experts will still be available to them and their story will still be available to us.
Replayed the end of  the program on Hulu to make sure i heard right and YES. Did anyone else see this????????

I watched the end and heard him talk about the first year being the hardest, yet still managed to miss the announcement the first time, so thank you! Do we have to wait until next spring for the show?

I'm confused. What is mediocre about Vaughn's job? Monet's manner towards Vaughn was abrasive. She had the audacity to be upset when he said a wife should cook and then expect him to swallow her demeaning comments about his ambition.

We also get a 'behind the scenes' show on Sep 30th!

Anything I post means it's Just My Opinion.  Don't feel like posting it every time I post. So, I thought I'd get that out of the way.

I've been faithfully buying each ep for $1.99 so I have them forever. At first they only has the first few, but I contacted customer service & asked if the rest would become available. Apparently enough other customer asked too. Now ALL episodes are there to be purchased.
No I'm not trying to sell amazon to anyone, I just like having the ability to rewatch.

No offense to me as I'm an Amazon addict. LOL

I read somewhere, but don't remember where, that since the show aired V has gone back to school part time to get into either electronic technician ( which would not make sense since he's in avionics and that is technical) or into Electronics Engineering. I see that as a plus for his future as an "established" man. And he can get his education under the GI bill. That does not make me like him better, it just means that he is not a totally unmotivated.
Who was the host? It seemed to me like he was mildly hitting on Monet.
The failure with those 2 was not the experts fault. These two did NOT know what they were looking for, they didn't know how to compromise and I'm not sure they learned how during this experiment either.
2 things that really may me literally yell WTF???? at my computer screen were;
the reveal that he wanted sex the night after her foot surgery
and he was o.k. with exposing that his left hand is now jealous of his right hand on National TV. EEEWWWW!!! I'm not a prude.... but that was plain old TACKY!!!!!
Both those made me think this guy is selfish, and made me think of Sex addicts.

I don't give Monet a pass on any of it. She is just as guilty as he is for their "mess".

I'm not sure what's so different from Monet saying she wanted a man to fix things around the house. Is that not stereotypical? So it's okay for Monet to say that, but it's not okay for Vaughn to want his wife to cook him dinner a few times a week? I'd say that's hypocritical. Being critical, cold, rude and abrasive is not the way to a man's...or woman's heart. They were just grease on a fire to each other and it was painful to watch.

I think Vaughn is all about excuses. He seemed to blame Monet for a lot of it. I tend to think both are equally to blame but he would drive me crazy.

This quote from the jet article tells a lot.
"JET: Say no more. I definitely get that… All in all: Do you think you were portrayed fairly?

V: I’d say that most of my family and friends that know me, they know I am the the baby of the family. I like to make everybody laugh and I like to keep the party going

He is as used to things going his way and feels as entitled to have them do so as Monet is/was.

Seriously though, previously I had felt sorry for Monet in all this, but after tonight, it seemed as if she kept deflecting questions and not taking enough responsibility. It was really off putting.

laugh out loud.. I typed that first and erased it because I figured most here might not have watched BIP. I have some personal experience with a guy like Vaughn so I'm biased. I felt he was pretty hopeless in comparison to Monet. But, honestly, I wouldn't want to spend 10 minutes with either. Cortney, as usual stole the show for me. I hope Jason is good to her. She seems to have such a big heart for him.

Really, by the end of the whole thing I practically wanted to marry Cortney ( :justkidding ).  She seems so emotionally mature, such a great communicator and is just so caring towards Jason.  I really hope they have a lifetime of happiness, and they just lucked out by meeting their soulmate on this show.  Appears that's what happened.  I love her.

Was also glad to see Jamie acknowledge that she didn't make it easy for Doug to love her, but he did it anyway, every step of the way.  Nice to see the emotion from them both.

It was so refreshing to watch people who came across as nothing but decent, real, caring and kind people on this show, with Cortney and Doug leading that charge.  They were both actually thinking of someone else ahead of themselves.  Not something you see on reality tv too often.  A pleasant example of how to be, not how not to be.  And that love builds from the way people treat each other, not just how hot they are for each other, or how extravagant their dates are. I loved watching it.  Not sure how they found such quality people but hope they can do it again for the next season.
Funny you mentioned the bolded.  Apparently, the British are having problems getting good applicants for MAFS.  : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2759139/Would-YOU-marry-sight-Channel-4-reality-left-waiting-altar-lack-singles-willing-hitched-strangers.html
