Re: Episode 7 - 7/11 - Discussion - Spoilers
I think we're at a stalemate here. Some think JP's getting a bad or at least flawed edit and some don't. For me I'm just interested in seeing what happens with it. Will they leave it alone or will we see more by the FDs? That would make sense but they may also be running with the heartbreak thing. It could make us wonder if he's going to be heartbroken again and seen as either a clue that he will or not depending on your point of view. So we're back to square one. :greenman:
ETA: I don't see Ben as perfect or JP as being shown to be horrible and would argue that other Ben fans feel the same way.

He didn't yell and scream, he didn't take it out on her, he was moody and didn't talk. *gasp* He walked out of the room *gasp* He talked about how he was feeling with HER instead of bitching behind her back *GASP* And he acknowledged his own shortcomings *gasp*
What is so off putting about this? I am stumped, seriously.
I get that they are trying to introduce doubt into his story line, and I've watched the show long enough to get how they edit things (the shot of him leaving was from his own room if I remember correctly, not the room they were all in).
The funny thing about insecurity and jealousy, is most of us feel that way at some point or another. The trick is how we deal with it. I honestly think he dealt with it pretty well. Not perfect, but not terrible either. I'm honestly at a loss to explain why this is such a huge topic of conversation!!
Sweetpea...no you are not the only one. I was not bothered at all by JP's reaction , I understood where it was coming from. He was upset and he dealt with it by not talking about it with the other guys and refusing to listen to Ben's re-telling of the date which would just aggravate him. He did not shout, pick a fight, become violent. He simply was not happy that the woman he loves is going on romantic dates and he is entitled to feel bad since he is human and he does not know what is going on. The fact that he shared his feelings with Ashley and admitted he was bothered/jealous of the situation was good and mature of him. Open and honest communication is always important in a healthy relationship. I am sure Ashley addressed some of his questions and reassured him that was why he was back on cloud 9,but it was not shown in the edit.

Re-the bolded: You are absolutely not the only one who didn't see the flaw as all that bad. In fact ICAM with your post and your last paragraph is similar to the point I made in an earlier post. I hear ya - I'm stumped too.

Well, I found JP entertaining and am glad he didn't 'take it like a man' the way Lucas did. All of that bravado is probably why he is divorced. His wife was probably 'wasting his time!' LOL! Oh, and Ames wasn't looking all that happy either. He was upset he didn't get the rose. The guys don't seem to take Ames seriously or see him as a contender.
I just know that both JP and Ashley are ready to get back to the states and move forward. They seem to be totally in sync in that regard. She just eliminated two of the thorn's in JP's side. Looks like we will find that JP's last relationship had more of an impact than he let on before so that may be a big contributor to his anxiety. Monday should be interesting.

If we are to assume that Coastal's spoiler is correct, all of it, and JP's edit is going to go down the tubes, what I am trying to figure out is what the logic was for the producers to give us the storyline they did, when there were other options. They purposely presented JP in a way that most viewers fell in love with him, saw him as the foil to Bentley. This image has continued through most of the show. Even Monday's episode only turned off maybe a handful of his fans, while it endeared him more to an equal number probably. They now have 3 epsiodes to kick the legs out from under the whole storyline, and get the viewers to turn on their hero. Is this wise storytelling by any stretch of the imagination? I could understand JP getting his heart broken at the end, as long as he still remained the hero we were rooting for, but the spoiler specifically says his edit will deteriorate. That's totally counterintuitive, and follows no logical storyline I have ever heard of. Your hero either comes from behind, or overcomes obstacles, or loses at the end and we all cry together. What doesn't happen is he turns into the villain at the last minute and then gets his ass kicked, and the guy who just got noticed in the last third of the story ends up winning.

I thought JP did the right thing. He didn't want to talk about it with the guys. He wanted to discuss it with Ashley. I am sure if he could have talked to Ashley right away about it instead of letting it stew in him all week he would have. That tells me that if these two are together and they have a problem he will go to her first... not bad mouth and vent about her to someone else.
Sorry, the whole manufactured "storm out" is leaving a sour taste in my mouth concerning the editing of the whole episode.
On another note, I also don't think JP is getting a jealous edit. I think he is getting a very insecure edit and the jealousy is a bi-product of his insecurity in the relationship. He doesn't know how she is feeling and it drives him nuts.
Ashley isn't perfect... I wouldn't expect her F1 to be edited as perfect either.
"I feel exhausted and defeated.... thanks for letting me have a bad day"
I will let JP have a bad week. *of course I will* :awesome:
JP being quiet is probably what Lucas considered sulking. I don't think JP is a "frat-like" as the rest of the guys are. I thought that whole convo with the guys the morning Ben came in was indicative of what they probably like all the time. Dino asking about "breakfast"?? give me a break on that one.. we all know "breakfast" is code for spending the night with somebody... it has nothing to do with what Ben had to eat that morning. They knew JP liked the girl and the wanted to rub it in, plain and simple. Many the guys thought it was funny... but really, who's the "childish" one? the guy that didn't want to think about the girl he liked possibly spending the night with another guy.. or the one that feels the need to joke about it? sorry, not into that kind of humour and I don't think JP was either.

I think you're right about this. Most people who have watched this show for any length of time come to realize nobody is perfect, and often if they are shown to be perfect (or very nearly so) or imperfect it's a combination of normal character traits and editing to tell a specific story.
I don't think any of these guys is perfect. I was hugely suspicious of Emily's "perfect" editing last season as it seemed it was mostly highlighted to counter Chantal's messy, imperfect edit. This is how the show works.

Talk about jumping the shark. That whole scenario would make my head hurt. It would probably keep me off of the editing thread (my biggest addiction) for the next couple of seasons though.

I've been away, and the threads are just too long to catch up properly. Can someone, or Coastal, give me a rundown of her spoiler? Is the source someone within the show? Just curious. Last season' with RS's spoiler fiasco makes me question these things.

Umm yeah, I'd be immediately cured of this show.
