Wow great article NR! It mirrors what a lot of us here believed while watching the season and definitely why Nick needs to stay away from TPTB! Thanks for posting it.

I was done reading any more articles, interviews or whatever, regarding the season, but this is a well thought out and intelligently written piece. So, thanks for bringing it over, and I'm glad that I got to read it.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, many of which I share.

I agree that the editing can steer you in certain directions, but never, not for one minute, did I believe any of the bad Nick edits. His authentic and genuine soul read like a shining light to me. I didn’t see him do anything but defend himself; he never said anything bad thing about any of the other contestants, he never did anything mean, he was just trying to advance his relationship with Andi. The worst he did was make fun of Cody for continuing to say he was grateful. I totally understood Nick as well.

What’s really interesting is that other guys on the show, namely Brian, Chris and Marcus also played into the edit… which really highlights how far the producers push in order to manufacture contestant reactions (this has been discussed before by many former contestants, including Molly the second winner on Jason’s season and now his wife). But the edit also affected Nick on the show as well and I believe was at least partly responsible for his tearful breakdown in Belgium in PIs and at the rose ceremony when he said he didn’t care about the other guys and just wanted to be alone with Andi.

Interesting comments about Eric Hill. It was actually refreshing to see the Bachelorette Andi portrayed in a real light in her interactions with Eric. In their exchanges, she presented as a very ego driven woman, unable to really process anyone or anything that disagreed with her or got in her way. Interesting how that personality defect also played into her confrontation with Josh during the lie-detector date. Neither of them seems very adept at being able to diffuse a hot situation or really listen well to the other, which to me, does not bode well for their future together. Or maybe being so alike, at least they understand each other???

I really liked your comparison of Nick/Andi to Reid/Jillian. What you didn’t mention, but what stands out to me in particular with regard to Jillian is the compassion she showed to Reid. Viewers may not have agreed with her choice or how the whole thing went down, but I don’t think anyone could argue that she wasn’t gracious or compassionate at ATFR. In no way did she try to demean or worse, trivialize Reid’s feelings…. In contrast, although (to my eyes) she clearly was in love with Nick, Andi wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of acknowledging his feelings, acknowledging she led him on/or at the very least got caught up in a confusing situation or the worst, show him any compassion.

You’re not alone in feeling the backlash… Almost 8 weeks since the finale, I’m still trying to process what I saw. I saw, as you did, a sensitive, genuine guy (loved your comment about Nick being a little bit different all his life) that let his guard down, and really fell in love… having his heart broken after doing all he could to protect it including asking for and receiving countless reassurances from Andi. I’m heartbroken that she could treat him this way.

And so for me, as bad as the edit was, the reality was far worse!

Also,

I don’t watch the Bachelor or BP/BIP either… because, like you, I’m all about the love story… and I mean, what fantasy is there is watching 25 girls compete for one guy, or in watching tv-produced couples compete in a competition???

It is really cool if Nick's moving on and hopefully dating soon. Hope its a classy, fun, educated girl. Smiley

Now..it is obviously tricky to judge someone's character based on twitter tweets. That being said, noticed a few comments on this forum bout 'chicity' girl laugh out loud

. The one thing I don't get is all her tweets bout guys asking for her "number". Seems a bit mundane and shallow. Usually, women who get hit on all the time don't feel the need to vocalize it constantly. Plus she needs reality trigger as the "lowest prices attract the most customers".
