Alanna wrote:I disagree that Fleissmeister and Co don't want the couples to succeed. They know Ali and Roberto, Trista and Ryan and even Jason and Molly are the gifts that keep on giving. There are weddings to air, ATFR therapy sessions to host, BP challenges to judge, and interviews/updates every few months. He11, he's pimping out Ali's proposal on an Emmy bid for the show. Why kill the goose that lays the golden eggs? They just need to figure out a good balance in learning to promote and protect their final couple while still giving enough drama and suspense in for majority of viewers.
I think as long as he has those 3 couples he doesn't care about the rest. He can pimp them out and say the show is successful look at these three couples when in reality the show has been around a lot longer than 3 seasons. If a couple last he can pimp them out, if a couple doesn't last he can move on to the next. I don't think he cares at all!

The couples that succeed, do so in spite of MF.
He only wants an FRC wedding because he knows it would draw huge numbers - and believe you me, he would definitely let that spoiler out of the bag.
remember, this is the guy who came up with the "Who wants to marry a Millionaire" trainwreck
So anders, do you think it is possible MF is starting to let the spoiler out of the bag in his tweet regarding tonight's episode and there being a big clue to the eventual outcome of Ashley's season? Not necissarily the FRC but possibly the AFR? Or do you think he is jerking us around with the obvious assumption it is the bride/groom photoshoot with JP, when it is actually Ash spending the first night of many to come with Ben?
what tweet?

I guess we won't know until we see how tonight's show plays out. Frankly, he's trying up viewership, we're in the hazy lazy days of summer and he wants people back in front of the TV watching. I'm a diehard addict, I will be watching, regardless of is twitter teasers.

I think MF would be tickled pink to get another success story out of this franchise (CH was openly mocked by the hosts this morning on GMA because of the ridiculously poor track record of the show). However, he is more concerned with immediate gain, which means that putting together a good season that gets good ratings trumps any concerns about helping the couple find their way to each other during filming, or taking it easy on them during editing. Once that's already set in stone, he would much rather end up with a success story than a failure (the only exception might be a trainwreck waiting to happen like Jake and Vienna). And once he has given up on a couple making it, as he no doubt did with Brad and Emily within a couple of months of their engagement, he will then look for the best way to exploit their failure for his own gain.

Fleiss outright said he didn't really care if the couples lasted. He knows people will watch every season, especially The Bachelor even though that track record is ZERO in the guy marrying his F1, regardless. I cried foul the minute they announced Brad was coming back. Wes tweeted, in advance, that Brad was running around Austin telling people he was doing it again. I never bought him. I never bought his 'love story' and, heck, I never really bought Emily. Why on earth would she give up the good life she has in Charlotte to move to Austin with a bar owner who was still living in a studio apartment? She is living WELL because of who she had a child with. It would be one thing if Brad owned all of his bars alone but he is splitting the pie 4 ways and in this economy, I'm sure the paycheck he got from the show provided a good shot in the arm if any of them were experiencing a slow down.
People were clamoring for an answer from the couple - especially since Emily was providing her two cents about someone else's relationship every week. Brad sneaked back into the hole he crawled into after his disastrous last appearance on the show (he went back to Laurel that time) and he's hiding out like a coward again this time. He never wanted into this. His biggest concern was having Hef be in attendance at his wedding if he pulled it off.

Very much agree.
It appears the formula for many years has been to take one of the rejected from the season prior(usually the F2 or F3), but since this failed miserably at the last minute with CL(from Ali's season), TPTB now have to have an ace up their sleeve.
They need a last minute replacement that will be able to have a fan base and slip into the role last minute just in case they are not able to seal the deal with last season's reject. Enter Brad this last season.
Now Brad and Emily are kaput. So what better way to put some closure to the season, encourage a possible increase in a poor season's ratings with Emily face time, and smooth over some hurt feelings by schmoozing Emily with some face time.
I would be surprised if TPTB did not maintain positive ties with Emily for that "just in case moment" down the road for future 'Ette, like they did Brad. TPTB never know when they will be faced with another CL rejecting them season. Maybe Emily would still reject them, maybe not.
No harm though fostering positive relationship after this fiasco televises tonight.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, bye Felicia!

Has Fleiss said recently that he still didn't care if couples lasted? I know he made that statement a couple of years ago, when his track record of success consisted of exactly one couple. Since then, he's gotten a bit more credibility with relationships lasting, plus he has seen how much good will and PR can be ridden off the back of a success story like Ali and Roberto. While he's not going to actively change his way of producing and editing his shows to accommodate a happy ending more, I think he is still keeping that in mind when looking at the overall picture of what he's putting together.

some of the earlier relationships lasted quite well - Ian and Mer lasted a year or more, Jen and Andrew lasted about 9-10 mths, Andy and Tessa, Mary and Byron, Charlie and Bee. Actually the longevity of the couple last longer before the recent shift.

I have to disagree. Andy and Tessa barely lasted at all. And the other 4 (plus one marriage) were out of a total of 16 seasons. Starting with Jason, they have had one wedding (even if it involved a switch) and 2 credible relationships (Ali, Jillian) in 5 seasons. The recent track record has been better.

Andy and Tessa managed to hold it together 5-6 months. The recent track record has been better in terms of couples - but the longevity has been from older seasons - Trista/Ryan, Mary/Byron, Charlie/Bee, Jen/Andrew. hope that clears things up.
I'll be happy to add Ali and Roberto to the list of longevity couples, especially since they have gone past the one year mark. Something only a rare few couples have managed.
