Q&A: Nigel Lythgoe and Tom Bergeron on the State of Reality TV

Variety: What have been your favorite moments?
Bergeron: How this one wrapped up will always be a favorite moment: Meryl (Davis) and Maks (Maksim Chmerkovskiy) winning. Maks has been on the show for 13 or more seasons and has always come close but never quite won. People hadn’t had the chance to see parts of his personality that I had — the gruff exterior with the marshmallow center that was very much in evidence. There was so much euphoria among the cast that he won for the first time, I was running around holding the trophy going, “Will somebody take this?” The trophy became absolutely immaterial. Not that it’s any great shakes. But what it represents was secondary to just this communal joy and camaraderie.

I know it was said on here that Max has some event going on and Meryl can not attend but her parents were/are going in her place. Does anyone know when that is? Oh, and how long is he in India for? Doesn't he know he needs to get home and hang out with Meryl so we have something to talk about!!!

The event is SWAY that the Dance Studio Maks owns puts on once a year. Maks is in it on July 26th and Meryl and Charlie are performing in ice shows over in Japan at that time. Maks has an event coming up on June 21st so he will be back by then. Since Maks and Meryl like to keep their personal life personal I don't think they are going to be hanging out together in a lot of public places to give anybody something to talk about. I guess we will just have to await for news or an announcement on the special they will be doing for ABC where we will get to see them dance together again. Sad as it is, that is the way they want it and I really don't blame them.
