Episode 8 - 7/18 Hometown dates - Discussion - Spoilers

What you have all said has been my perception but as I have very little expeience with either faith, I just wondered if there was some impediment that IRL would trip up a relationship. Obviously it was not an impediment to either going on the show, even with the likelihood of either finding someone of their faith .... zero.

I think it was Mer and Lanny, whose family was rather "conservative christian."

I have non-Catholic and non-Mormon friends who conveted for their spouses. I have Christian friends who have married non-religious patners. Is there something about either of these religions that would be insurmountable? I have no perspective, but perhaps some of you know.

I can only speak as a non observant Jew, and assume that JP is the same, more or less (even most non observant Jews get bar mitzvahed, especially the boys), or else he most likely wouldn't have gone on the show in the first place, where he would either be assuming the lead would be Jewish, or that she'd be willing to convert. If Ashley herself is not a particularly religious person (which I assume she isn't because Lucas kind of intimated as much in his interview), there will be no problem, and they can probably celebrate both Christian and Jewish holidays in a "secular" way, and kind of "play it by ear" when it comes to kids.

If Dino's family is very strict GO, they may have a problem with it even if he doesn't. Or he may just be using it as an excuse to leave before going to the FS, since I never got the feeling he was all that into Ashley in the first place.

I'm jewish born and bred. Was raised conservative, practice traditionally reformed and raised my family such. Personally, I try to take a do unto others approach in life. The practice of "religion" itself is not as important to me as being spiritually connected to a higher power.
Hopefully, whoever Ashley chooses will be on the same spiritual plane as she is.

Most importantly, unless JP hates her as much as Bentley did, I don't see him saying they're meant to be and proposing if he's planning to marry someone Jewish. What is going to do, turn around in a few months and go "sorry, just hit me you're not Jewish, can't do it, babe, but hit me up for a drink if you're ever in NYC?"

Oh, gosh! I hope not. You're right, though. They've most likely discussed this already but we weren't privy to it. Maybe it comes up either in the HTD or when her family comes. It would be interesting to see in juxtaposition to Dino's religious exit if that's how it actually plays out.

Unless they are complete idiots, you have to assume that the lead and her F1 have discussed finances, religion, politics, family, etc. way before they even get to the FRC. I wouldn't be surprised if it's something they discuss on the first date.

Just looked at the medianet pics for the HTDs, from the captions it seems as though Ben's HTD was filmed over two days April 20/21. Can someone double check this for me, make sure I'm not going crazy. Makes me go HMMMMMMMMMMMM!

The ones dated April 21 all have timestamps from 1 - 3 AM, and the pics are outside in the sun.
Also, the ones dated April 20 have timestamps from 10 PM and later.
I'm wondering if the photographer just uploaded them when he got home that night?
I'm not sure how it works, really.

Darn it...I thought i was on to something. Maybe the photographers camera was still set to taiwan time and that's why we have them spanning 2 days?

I've said it before and will say it again...
1) Many of these dates last H O U R S. Just like the RC's. It's not just filmed. Many retakes are involved. These are long days and nights.
2) I have heard the HTD are particularly grueling for those involved. Think about the average American home... what 2000 square feet? 1800? Lights and camera equipment. Wires. Moving your freaking furniture around. Messing your place up after you've cleaned it up. Placing your chockies in boxes if it doesn't suit their filming ambiance and pulling out the votives and tea candles galore! Exploiting your privacy, your castle!!! These dates last eons. And often they will move from one local--example from Roller Skating Rink in Long Island--to eating meal with family to maybe a third location. During this time, the couple spends quality time at their date and then family time and then individual 1:1 time with many family members if not all and then quality alone time once again before the HTD is over. It could easily start mid morning and end after 12a.m. making it appear days.

I was just referring to the fact that the pictures stated between 1-3 AM when Ben and Ash are sitting outside in broad daylight. :P :P
