It might be time to discuss amongst us mods, how we feel about politics entering the threads before it happens.
Personally, I hate the idea of threads going political. JMO.

No politics IMO! I better add that to the rules. I shouldn't have asked in that thread, but it was strange to me that the Gov of Texas was at the Iowa State Fair. Good point, before it gets out of hand.

Iowa Caucuses ... early item on the primary / road to nomination schedule.

I did some more searching on warnings, and found this response to someone else's question.

I tested it with Captiva, go to Captiva's profile. You will see the comment "test". When I logged in as Captiva, (the profile looks completely different than what we see, I didn't know that?) I couldn't find comments anywhere.

I will play with it some more tommorow. I've been pm'ing back and forth with MCJwhatever on making a new banner, just waiting for the final one before I log off, if I can wait any longer!

In the profiles you can edit the "comments" which is for Admins/Mod notes which is only seen by the staff. This is where you would write in comments about warnings and such. It is also a good idea to create a thread in the staff forum which would be hidden from members, to document warnings and bans as a back up as well as keeping staff members informed of the situations going on in the forum.

So it's a double documentation...one in the staff forum and one in the persons profile.

The posts in the staff forum would contain a link to the persons profile, their username, and of course the thread in question, and the information of what action was taken.

When banning then you have something to click, like you were speaking of and can type in the reason for the ban. But unfortunately we don't have such a thing for warnings. You could however suggest it with a poll in the suggestions for your forums section, if it has not already been suggested.

Not sure how to word this, but I hate reading posts that vie for longest post in the history of mankind. Major pet peeve of mine.
To me it is verges on being rude that almost 100% of the time certain posters post a novel on every posting.
Is it even possible to make certain suggestions for the future?

I hear you. How can people babble on and on like that. I'm going to check into seeing if we can put a cap on the number of words in a post. I think I came across this when I was trying to figure out how many posts per page to set so we can use as much space on one page.

I don't read them, and am amazed when I see replies to them.  Scrolling is my friend!

So I'm going to post here how much I hate the idea of Chris as the bachelor...don't want to be accused of bias in my moderation. But I hope the ratings tank and RS rips him a new one.  Did I just say that?  Signed Bitter Bet.  laugh out loud

LOL Bet you kill me.

Ok I jinxed myself the other day talking about viruses. Geesh! I'm not sure what the heck I did, but I've been messing around the last couple of hours getting rid of google hijack.

Is it hiding GA? Last time my son got 3 viruses, they showed up in his programs and I was able to uninstall them. I purchase geek squad, they have a 3 year program for $300 that services 3 computers. I love it because if I can't get rid of the virus (like the FBI one) they fix it remotely. The program also includes tuning up/servicing your computers all done remotely.

It was hiding deep. I could see it, but couldn't delete it. AVG and malware bytes got it out. When I rebooted, IE advised me the settings were corrupted and they fixed it. When I went to settings, the hijack was gone and my settings were back. So I think I'm ok. It's on my home laptop so we'll see what happens when I fire it up tonight. Sometimes you think it's gone but they re appear. We have geek squad around here, that's a great deal Bet.

I have a techie guy I buy my laptops from. He has looked after me when I couldn't get rid of the last one I had.

I'm a techie wannabe, I'll spend hours trying to figure something out. Thanks for the geek squad reminder, I forgot about them.

Post by albean99 Thu Aug 28, 2014 4:33 pm

The worst experience I had was at work. My co-worker who shared the computer with me clicked on a link in an email that looked like it was from the post office. She didn't think about why they'd email a person. A ransomware virus corrupted all the files and asked for money to fix them. Of course we weren't going to pay and lost a ton of stuff.  It was CryptoLocker & our tech guy couldn't do anything other than get rid of it. We now save everything to the server so was a pain but a good lesson. If you're interested in reading about these types of viruses & possibly getting rid of them here's an article.  http://www.pcworld.com/article/2084002/how-to-rescue-your-pc-from-ransomware.html

I'd love to have a character limit on posts, GA. I hate to read anything over 3 large paragraphs and wonder how these people have that kind of time. Shocking that anyone reads & responds.

I'm not a fan of Chris being TB either, Bet. I think it will be a snooze although they'll bring in the drama inducing women so may be okay. I just have this feeling his ego will be inflated like many of the guys before him. I don't dislike him, just think he was an uninspired pick.

Great link bean. Sounds similar to what I had while back. You had to click a link to buy something, and it wouldn't let me do anything anything else. I started in safe mode, was able to get a virus cleaner activated and clean it up. It worked for a couple of days, then it was back. laugh out loud That's when I took it to the techie guy.

I spent another couple of hours last night running all sorts of free virus programs, which found a couple more files. It seemed great after that. Fingers crossed.

As far as the character limit:

snipped ...

Here is a non exhaustive list of the approximate limits of the forums. Please note that it is not possible to modify any of these limits.

Characters in the messages: 65,000 characters (Including spaces)

http://help.forumotion.com/t1709-some-limits-of-forumotion-forum

Good Grief!!! Lucas and JBF must be close to that! I skim through all those long posts just to make sure it's on track. So don't feel like you have to read them.

I'm going to search around some other forums to see if they have anything in their rules on keeping the posts to a limit. I will keep everyone posted on my findings.

I've had one complaint the Josh and Andi Fan forum is being filled with Aaron and Kacie. Alanna jokingly suggested in one of her posts, they should have a separate thread for them.

I'm wondering if that may not be a bad idea?
