About the Hometown. When they were leaving his parents house, it sure sounded like they would see them later. I kept listening to who said what during the parents-came-outside-with-them good-byes (so normal, as if Chris was just leaving with his long-time girlfriend). Just wondering. How many times is the Bachelor/Bachette contender's family shown telling them good-bye like that? Not many, right?

It always has bothered me that if that hometown date was so pivotal - and she says it was - and Chris H. says it was - why didn't she stay until after dark? It was clearly dark on both Brooks' and Drew's dates when she left. Also, we got the Trista/Ryan guitar rift throughout convo with mom and then all through "the kiss". I heard somebody say "tonight", but never saw "night". Oh, yeah, I have a lot of questions!!!!

Jef and Em had night - or at least sunset time, then the camera moves off of them and we hear a giggle. We never saw Em leave. Sean chased Em's car for a last kiss, but it was definitely still daylight when she left. Later we hear somewhere that he wonders why the date with Em was so short. Nothing is ever shown on the Bachelor/Bachelorette lightly. There is always a purpose behind it being shown - or not shown.

MiMi, I think they wanted us to see Des leaving when it was still light but knew they would be spending more time together. TPTB want to encourage a connection, and time is needed for that. Jason and Molly both said that the lead has that power--I'm sure within reason--to make that happen. You are right, when Des and Chris said goodbye to his parents, he didn't just say, I'll be right back but made it sound like they would talk but later on. I hope that makes sense. Anyways, it's fun to speculate and I think I will be more aware of things during Juan Pablo's show.

Very interesting thoughts everyone.  Thanks for taking the time!  I can't make out what she says on the LCD, but I would not be surprised if she had stayed.  They both looked at each other differently, the look of love is there for sure.  ;)  In Jason and Molly's first podcast, they talked about having the opportunity to stay the night with each other after the hometowns if they want.  I had heard that before, so even though Des said goodbye to Chris at his parent's house, I don't think they REALLY said goodbye.  Maybe that will all come out someday.

Does anyone have a tape of their first meeting on night one?  Maybe on you tube?  Thanks!

And another thought, remember when Mike Fleiss said there was one FD that was very steamy or something like that?  At the time fans thought it was Drew, but now I'm thinking it was Chris and it was not shown. ??

what actually happened behind the scenes is indeed an interesting mystery to solve, to say the least  
about HTD : i always thought that the lead and all of F4 were staying the night at the hotel in their hometown. Its been revealed that Jash get busted by the producers after sneaking to spend the night /spend sometime together (?) in one hotel`s room in JP`s hometown.  . Trista have also said that she was able to had a phone conversation with Ryan via hotel call service. After the producers found out about this, they plugged off the room`s phones for the subsequent seasons.

i think MF/Millsy tweeted the steamiest was Drew`s FD (he said it spesifically). Perhaps bc the AC was broken?? :lala:

Thanks Mura!  So interesting about the HT dates.  I would bet on it now that Des and Chris saw each other or at least talked.  Thanks for the first meeting.  Was there anything else on the first night?  A conversation?  Did they show it?  Does anyone remember their first kiss?  I was thinking it was on top of the roof in LA but i don't think they showed it.     

Epi 1 besides his getting down on one knee....they only showed that quick montage where he's included saying he's from Seattle. Then later they showed him walking with her to what I'm suspecting they were going to have some 1 on 1 time but didn't show any of that conversation unfortunately. They kept him pretty much hidden on edit that M & G.

one thing for sure, a poster here mentioned that Chris family was having DINNER with Des, but i thought we saw a lunch event on-screen?. (was it still that bright around dinner time in Portland on 21/4?). so i guess you could be right. it simply they dont show us the night portion. you may call it as "the purposely not shown" night portion of the HTD

According to his book, it's the 29th, Des' poem to him is 5/4, placing the proposal on 5/5 or 5/6 I would guess. Problem is Chris is on a plane to Antigua on the 27th. How does he get a FD in, then Brooks breaks up with her, then they have a RC, LCD/MTP by the 29th? And what the heck did they do between the 29th and the 5th? Easiest explanation is his date is wrong, but the possibilities if it's not are entertaining. :Smiley:

Just curious. How many of you think this season was... well... slightly scripted? We don't have "hard" evidence to prove anything for certain. Many found the break-up boo-hoo pretty convincing, like they did Tierra, Bentley and other past dramas... all milked in the publicity and tabloids.

I mean... she pretends she hadn't been in the Caribbean before.

In Madeira she tells Chris she would love for him to meet her family and then backtracks on the last chance date with some hesitation... but then is overjoyed that he ASKED to meet them.

Chris kept repeating he was a skeptic coming into this, emphasizing this statement with a VERY skeptical-and-doesn't-want-his-sister-running-away-from-him Nate Hartsock. (He is still hopeful she will come back to California a single gal.) Yet Becky on the hometown is saying sonny boy eagerly text her "I just found out... it's Des!" Becky don't lie.

At the dodgeball date, she did kiss Brooks after he returned from the hospital and they giggled a bit, but the rooftop scene with the other was more "intimate". Before giving Chris the rose shortly later, she compliments Brooks for coming back and acts "sympathetic" that his finger must still hurt like he is one her students at the Kindergarten, then escorts Chris out with this look of "don't wait up for us guys". When Ben tells the other guys that is sometimes best not to look, I think many viewers who read Reality Steve did just that... and took a potty break during the Kate Earl concert with all of that distance camera work and "cutaway" shots so you couldn't see just "how much" actual kissing was going on.

In Munich, Chris drove us all bonkers by saying "I don’t have to worry about any of the guys in the house. I don’t have to worry about what time I have to go to bed. I don’t have to worry about brushing my teeth. I don’t have to worry about anything." It is pretty obvious that his first "overnight" was not in Antigua.

And... come on! That poem in Barcelona? Yeah, she impressed Brooks with a scroll of "memorable dates" and that was nice and all. Yes, we later got her "expecting a proposal at the end of this... and with Brooks". (Maybe she meant Brooks supporting her engagement to Chris and not causing trouble like Ben Flajnik did Ashley... LOL!) Seriously, lines like this and any "Brooks is the one" talk seem redundant after hearing these: "On top of that roof, overlooking that view / that was the moment I knew sparks grew", "Dancing in the streets, the moments of bliss / Solidified my feelings with every single kiss", "And the rose to one day grant US OUR fate", "And hopeful to see if in your heart / I have found a home". I bet, thanks to Reality Steve, a cluster of viewers were busy mulling over the refrigerator or taking out the trash during that scene. Mike Fleiss needed Steve badly this season. The sketchbook on the hometown made it even harder to accept Chris as a "dumpee".

Also whenever the Bachelorette is shown to be "modest" on night #1, they are likely NOT with their F1 later on. For example, Jillian acted annoyed when some guy stripped down... and later when Tanner was in his "undies". Yet we got Ed's volcano. Ashley and Matt "blackberried" his mom so they would be reminded to use "protection" in the overnight suite... and we later got JP "breaking the entertainment center", Peak Tram "mushing", treehouse side-saddle and So Long Sarong in Fiji. This season, they sure spent a LOT of time with Jonathan and Des emphasizing "I'm that kind of girl", not to mention magician Nick getting her to disappear... as I am sure both she and Chris often were on group dates. (Dr. Larry said on night #1 that he was disappointed that he didn't get to see a magic act. Later mom Becky says "Good guy. Good girl. Put together. Magic. What are you going to do?" Ugh! We have all spent TOO much time analyzing this silly show! Don't tell me THAT was in the script too.)

In fact, I will wager that these two got a LOT of time alone and she had to pay for it by lusting all over Brooks for the camera regardless how often he appeared to be squirming to make a clean getaway (much like Frank and Bentley). Often Brooks looked downright grumpy accepting the roses as if his handler already told him he was to play the "heartbreaker" this season and he was fussing about how that will impact his public image. At least Janice and sis helped make us sympathetic to his doing it and Harrison insisted in interviews that he didn't "lead her on", so he still came out... how should I put it?... smelling like a rose? The Brooks fans are still happy... and fantasizing that he was her "real F1 stud" this season and maybe she is still hiding photos of him under her Seattle mattress like Scarlett O'Hara's Ashley. (Me thinks that "blindsided by my feelings for Brooks" talk was just added fodder to get Chris to look baffled at the FRC... and possibly smokescreen for something else she needed to talk to him about later off camera.)

I do detect a little play acting here in these "hot" moments with Brooks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qt0WR-9fx8n  She giggles to Chris "You looked really great out there…" Then she keeps talking about him being "athletic" while dropping flirtatious hints that she isn't thinking "soccer". Later Brooks compliments her strictly on soccer: "You did really good today by the way." Then they talk about their "performances" on screen... about being more "emotionally involved". When Brooks says these words, he looks away from Des. When she talks that way to him, you are not quite sure if she means "with you" or with somebody else.

Also the spoilers being faked like they were allowed additional safe-house time that past couples didn't get. Hey... the Bachelorette had to pay the price of ridicule post show for this, but she still got some things she wanted. The speed in which she hightailed to Seattle was downright hilarious.

Scripted? No, I don't think so. I think it's what many past Bachelor/Bachelorette have stated, that basically on night one they kind of know who their top 4 are. I truly feel that she was in love with two people. I think what happened was she was infatuated with Brooks. I have the show TIVOED, so I have seen the show on and off since it ended. You can tell towards the end she was not in love with Drew. He had to go in for the kisses, etc. The Molly/Jason Podcasts are helpful in learning how the show works. Massive manipulation and "frankenbiting". You should see how in the final rose ceremony when Des voiceover said: "I dont' know what I"m going to do" that by FAR is not what she said about FRC. That was just plugged in for drama purposes. Remember, she said post interview that as soon as he walked up to FRC she just wanted to run up to him and say "yes, I will marry you". So net, net, I feel she was in love with both and he was not on insert for drama. He was just not in love with her. Love this board and all the insights. Just my two cents. I hope that we will see a book signing event:)

Yes, that line was taken from earlier in the episode! You would think they wouldn't use the same line twice in one ep smh!!!!! I didn't see tears when she was on the bench with brooks but i did see them while they were waiting for his limo! I don't know if i believe it was entirely scripted but I have have no doubt some things are every season( which we just don't know). I have already stated why I believe chris would still be f1 regardless if things were scripted are not! There he no way she wouldn't have realized what she had in this man!

And thank you guys for trying to figure out the dates! I'm still confused though lol! Things sure are not adding up to how it played out on screen!

Actually I was saying "slightly" scripted, but I did go overboard later in my post questioning too much about the Brooks business... No! No! No! Heh heh. Yeah, she did have feelings for him. Obviously she wanted him in the top two over Drew or the latter would have seen her family. (One of the things I still question is why she predicted "heartbreak" ahead of time under the Hollywood sign.)

A comparison of the "I don't know what I'm going to do" can be made with JP's "I'm still afraid" dub when his back was turned to the camera at his FRC. The editors wanted you to think he would hesitate proposing to her on account of fearing heartbreak... thinking she picked Ben.

The one pattern I do notice in many seasons is that you will see a lot of "heat" between the lead and their finalist in the middle portion of the season (like episode #4 through hometowns), then there is a cooling off later as the second and third candidates get more action on screen. Arie, in particular got a lot of focus towards the end, leading up to his surprise early dumping on his LCD. Many thought Emily fibbed about not going to the fantasy suite with him... and... who knows?
