I totally couldn't agree with you more and I love Brooks. Poor Desiree. I really feel like there are producers in both their ears stewing this pot of crap that's about to happen, but maybe he just really is reluctant and in that case, probably does the right thing by telling her that. I don't think he wants to be that guy on the cover of magazines breaking up an engagement a few weeks after proclaiming ever lasing love on tv. To real, genuine and caring for that.
Funny. I'm the opposite. I feel for Brooks in all this. Is that wrong?
I really feel for them both. Obviously they are both going to be in emotional turmoil when we know they can be so happy, smiley, fun and cute together. It seems like such a waste. I'm not turning on Brooks and get where he's probably coming from and still respect his efforts to be real and truthful with her, but from Des' perspective it really sucks that he can't keep any forward momentum and keeps sliding back into his introspective, analytical mode.

He says the protective walls are coming down just before he goes to Antigua. He can picture them being together in the end. It doesn't look like he's going to Antigua ala Frank in Ali's season just to tell her he's leaving. I don't think he meant to hurt her and it was blown out of proportion. And I'm sure it bothers him now to be portrayed as wishy washy and his family must be just as sad. But if he is F1 then he is willing to wait to be vindicated on aug. 5.

That can be true, but this is not normal dating. I'm willing to give a break, especially when I have no idea yet what "the rest of the story is."SueSt wrote:relaxing wrote:canyonvue wrote:relaxing wrote:2observe wrote:re: bolded - Yep! Hard to compare this to actual dating leading to marriage - why I hope there's no engagement.
In normal dating you don't have the problem of competing for her heart, knowing she is dating other guys you know at the same time and hearing them talk about how great their relationships with her are or teams of people you suspect don't have your best interests at heart trying to lead you a certain way. So many times it's joked about how crazy this situation actually is and Brooks is seeing that and acting accordingly. Yay for him. But if he is reluctant about a relationship with Des, rather than trying to remain true to himself in a surreal situation, I agree that it's likely not a relationship that's meant to be.

^^^yes, thankfully in real life we don't have MF and his minions trying to manipulate our dating lives. once the show ends is when the real relationship starts.

We don't know what happens or how he feels. It's Brooks trying, obviously, to figure out what he feels. A problem is something like cheating or whatever. Brooks is just trying to find out if he wants to be with her. I think he deserves a break. I mean, after a couple 1v1s, some group dates and meeting the parents he's supposed to be madly in love? He doesn't seem like a racehorse type of guy. People are crucifying him for taking his time and trying to get it right for his life.
I love how Brooks has become the bad guy here (and yet we don't even know what happens). And even if he has reservations, so what? He's honest about it. He isn't trying to hurt her. In fact, it seems he's trying to save her a lot of grief by addressing it as soon as he needs to. It would be frustrating, for her, but she's the one who galloped ahead. If she really wants him she'll need to come his way and give a little. And maybe that's exactly what she DOES learn by the end.

Canyonvue -- This is a really good and introspective post. Many of us are upset with Brooks because it appears he's not going to give Des a happy ending based on such a little bit of time with her. He may be the only one in a long time with common sense, who sees the dismal record of matches on this show, and does not want to make a long-term commitment without being sure. Maybe he has the right idea. JMHO.

When you say Brooks has been the bad guy here, is that because not everyone is "fanloving" on the "rumoured" F1 Brooks? I personally don't really see anyone hating on him.canyonvue wrote:relaxing wrote:canyonvue wrote:relaxing wrote:2observe wrote:re: bolded - Yep! I wonder if Brooks tells Des that while he cares for her, he can't fall in love whole heartedly knowing that she is dating two other people. He takes himself out of the equation, but in such a way that it leaves the door open for a relationship later... "If the others don't work out, I'll be here waiting" or something like that. However he knows that in doing so, she could very well not come back.
She goes on the rest of the dates to give the other guys a real chance (LCD/MTP) and comes to realize (if spoilers are correct) that its really Brooks or no one. After he's taken himself out, he realizes that he does love her and is willing to fight for her--other "boyfriends" or not.

That last picture is a clear picture of the unidentified white thing. The green tint is gone.
