I don't mean to be going from forum to forum and defending Ashley, but I think she's doing fine, she's just not as good as some of the other Bettes at hiding her vulnerability and such.
I'm 100% with you on this. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

In my (not so humble :bluewink: ) opinion, the guy takes the initiative when he puts his arm around me, or he leans in for a kiss. When he grabs her, picks her up, carries her off, plunks her down on his lap, and commences to devour her :what: (Bentley), I would say :smarty pants: that he has made every attempt to master her.
......of course, if this is your honeymoon..... :geek:

Thank you! I was just about to say this. I'm all for initiative but Ashley's reactions and what Bentley is doing goes way beyond the pale. He's not taking initiative- that was Roberto making sure Ali was okay during the Justin debacle- he's doing something entirely different.
Anyway, I understand she's vulnerable and insecure but IMO she is definitely enjoying Bentley's treatment regardless. Maybe it'll change or she'll end up with someone who can offer her what she wants and also respect her. I'm on her side and I really hope she found The One, but yeah, right now I'm a little sad for her.

I agree that Bentley goes WAY over the boundaries!! My initial response was to someone upthread who mentioned that what JP did was "master" Ashley as well. I didn't agree with that.
I sincerely hope that Bentley's ex-wife has full custody of their little girl.

someone needs to have full custody of Bentley, cuz he's (as Judge Judy would say) not fully cooked.

I don't know if I would call JP "mastering" her either but she seemed to enjoy "being in trouble" and told to come with him. We really need to see more of their relationship for me to decide anything though.
And yeah, Bentley is a freak of nature.

Bentley is a neanderthal. I was waiting for him to beat her over the head with a club and drag her into his cave. Mmnfffph Maybe we'll be treated to that scene in episode 3.

Every Bachelorette gets picked on early in the season... remember Trista and Russ in Las Vegas (episode #2)? Jillian and Wes? (Now, those guys were just edited poorly. Bentley may be a new "species" altogether.) So... it is predictable.
I agree about Ashley. She wants her partner to be "in charge" to a degree, but not necessarily over her... just over the situations in life. She liked JP pulling her aside because he was taking the initiative rather than sitting on the sidelines... and a LOT of guys are doing just that this season: sitting! She also continued kissing William, despite how the other guys didn't like his assertiveness. (Unfortunately, poor Ben F. still looks too guarded and cautious, still waiting to make a move. I have the feeling this is the "story" they are starting to build for him.)

Bentley overwhelmed her when she was vulnerable. No question about that at all. I absolutely agree that there is a big difference between JP's action and DB Bentley's actions. I'm just not willing to bash Ashley over a very low, weak or vulnerable moment when she was already questioning her desirability to the majority of the guys there, and got manipulated by Bentley.
I think she lost her equilibrium big time but I think she is going to get it all figured out by the end. It appears she likes a guy that will take the initiative, if she's interested in the guy. I just can't find it in myself to condemn her out of hand at that very low point brought on by TPTB's and Bentley's machinations. JMO

I feel badly for Ashley. No matter how you cut it, and this takes editing into account, Bentley on this show is a con artist and Ashley is naive.
Am I going to flay her? No, but I would love to get hold of Bentley and ask him if he would like for some young man to treat his daughter in the same humiliating fashion in front of millions of people. I am a strong proponent of treating other people exactly the way that you want to be treated.
