But is he attractive and a romantic character in any sense of the word? Will the girls go gaga over him? I think not.

Hey ladies! I adore Ben F. We all have different taste. That's what makes it all so fun.

Ben F reminds me of Francine on the PBS show Arthur. Just google Francine of Arthur.

If we don`t like the lead we skip the season. It won`t be the first time any of us have. I barely watched half an episode of Bens season. He did not interest me and neither did the girls on his season.

If we think about the job of a handler, it is to accomplish two things. 1. Ensure that the guys stay in line and follow the rules and 2. have conversations with them that are on film in an effort to build storylines.
Do they develop relationships with the contestants? Absolutely! Do they take what the contestants say out of context? Yes! But every one I've spoken to says they accept it knowing its a part of what they signed up for. It doesn't however, change the fact that many of them are completely naive to the process.
On another note, they've all said it was an amazing experience and would definitely do it again.
I think this is a fair middle-of-the-road assessment as to what goes on. I do think that certain seasons have/require more manipulation, contingent on if real drama creates itself. From what I've been told, for example, Emily's season was heavily story-boarded, and that may be because she really never found "love" (temporary as it may be on this show) with anyone, so they mapped it out for her fairly early on.
I also feel like they've intervened a lot in this season, not because Des hasn't found someone but because she found him so early that the producers worry that without all the guy drama, the season would be dull. Certainly, they worked up Michael and Mikey about Ben (arranging it so that they saw Ben return from the car ride with Des, etc), and I have no doubt that they're whispering in everyone's ears about James. I always laugh when I see the guys sitting around discussing the drama - like in last week's episode when Kasey and Drew were on the bed and Brooks said (paraphrasing - I don't remember it exactly), "So what is going on with James?," or something like that. He was feeding them the line to open the scene, and I suspect that producers said: "Go have a conversation and ask them about what they overheard." That's how producers are able to tell the story they want.
Do they do this on most reality shows? Absolutely. But lately, IMO, this show has been clunkier/lazier than most, in terms of how they go about it.
Great posts, Freelance and Beeleever.

I have stated this many times, but no matter who the lead is I'll still watch the show.
I know a lot of people won't tune in if they don't care for the lead. Which is their right. There are some that become very invested because they love the lead.

I think he's really attractive! Also super confident but still very nice, funny, interesting, smart, well-spoken, fun and with such a positive energy. I think he has great "gaga" potential and would be a huge step up from many of the Bachelors they've had. I would actually be looking forward to it for once other than to meet the new Bachelorette. Go Zak! I'm really hoping.

Re: Bachelorette 9 - General Media - Discussion
I guess I have a different opinion of what is considered a respectable job because unless you're breaking the law with your profession, it's up for interpretation. If one has respect for themselves and is not disrespecting others with what they do, all the best to them and their pursuit of happiness. If they're providing for themselves, and their family, and not mooching off of social services or others, etc., I consider them worthy of respect. JMHO.
I will watch the show no matter who the lead is. I didn't like Sean in Emily's season, nor his own, but watched until the end regardless. I wish everyone the best once they've left the show to pursue their relationships. I love the success stories and continue to watch in hope of seeing more such relationships. The odds aren't that great, but you can't beat the odds unless you try.
