In the 39th season of the Emmy Award-winning reality series that challenges players to outwit, outplay, and outlast their opponents, Survivor is introducing a new element to the game: the Island of the Idols.

This edition features two legendary winners, "Boston" Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine, who return to the game not to compete, but to serve as mentors to a group of 20 new players.

Combined, Boston Rob and Sandra have played over 200 days of Survivor, and now they plan to share what they've learned with the new castaways. The players will then attempt to put those learned skills to the test and chase the title of Sole Survivor—not to mention the $1 million grand prize.

But who are these new castaways?

Read on to meet the 20 new players who will be joining the annals of Survivor history.

And they start off with a nice blind side. So far so good.

I am enjoying the Boston Rob/Sandra banter.

Has anyone heard anything about this season? I usually hear if it was a good season or not, but I haven't heard anything about this one.

So far so good. Next season is the one we are all waiting for though.

Winners only season... Boston Rob and Sandra are back to back seasons. They even got Amber to play, I am so excited.

Both seasons are going to be great.

I like about 5 people this season.

What I have read about this season is that Rob and Sandra both insisted that they will live on that island and have to fend for themselves just like the survivors do. Evidently TPTB were going to put them up elsewhere except when needed.

I enjoyed it. I missed a couple things because I was flipping back and forth to Masked Singer. Missed the beginning of TC. I was glad to see Rob and Sandra eavesdropping there. That will come in handy if/when they see any of these people on their island.

I thought it was interesting that there was no meeting with Jeff on the first day. Something different and unexpected. I think it might have thrown a few of them off their game. I was happy with who was voted off.

@nikikass agree with all your points. This is my all time favorite show. I especially love Rob and Sandra.

@nikikass I am excited to see that Rob will be playing with Amber, but I kind of think that will put a target on their backs as they naturally have a built in connection. As if he didn't have a big target on him already. Most likely they will split them up with one on one team and the other on the opposing side. I suspect BR will likely be voted out first, but Amber could fly under the radar without him. I hope they do a little recap of their meeting and update us with their four girls. I actually want them to do a little recap of all of the survivors to see what everyone has been up to.

@HavaDrPepper That is interesting to hear about Sandra and BR wanting to be on the island and fend for themselves. Maybe they wanted to prepare themselves for the filming of the next season...kind of acclimatizing, toughening themselves up since they film the shows back to back and many of the others haven't played in ages. They could also have spent their time strategizing for season 40. I bet they also end up on opposite teams, but then Sandra could play with Amber and I'm sure BR would catch her up to speed.

The all winners season is going to be great just for that reason.

A recap after so many years is going to be great. I hear each episode is an hour and half. I also heard that players were really excited to do this. Only two of them actually got paid a pretty good sum of money to come back. (I think very good reason)

2 million prize money this time.

But i dont wont to get too ahead. This season is going to be great and i will thoroughly enjoy this one as I always do.

Sandra is on a team with Amber. Many of the S40 contestants have played with others so there are a lot of relationships already formed. Rumor has it that Rob is on the same team as Parvati and they played together before.

Season 39 filmed from March 17 (Day 1 was March 21) to April 28. Season 40 filmed from May 19 (Day 1 was May 22) to June 29 with arrival back in the US on July 2. So Rob and Sandra had a couple of weeks in between filming each season.

What a great Survivor year ahead!

I just watched the first episode and I am so excited for this season! It’s off to a great start already, loved the blindside week one.
