Usually do not post a lot but here is my take on this season:

The show has exploited the Bentley Factor nearly every episode thus far because it's all they've got.

Apparently that is the problem this season. IMO there was an instant attraction between Ashley and JP, similiar to what they faced with Ali and Roberto. Last year they had a great team of guys that played interference namely, Frank, Chris Lambton, Kasey Kahl and Justin Rego.

Chris Harrision even said this season's men are educated and more on the mature side and not Frat Boys like last year's group. Well that very likable Frat group of men kept us entertained while Ali agonized over her feelings about Frank on each and every episode and if she was attractive enough for Roberto to ever give her a tumble if he met her, say in a bar, in the real world. Ali was always very insecure about Roberto's feelings for her, ad nauseum, and this was her big insecurity throughout that season. My how we forget over a period of 12 months.

This season is no different but they are using absent Bentley as this season's diversion to keep the focus off of the man Ashley is and has been attracted to since night one. Sure we are getting sick of hearing the name Bentley, but I assure you last year I was also getting sick of seeing Ali moon over Frank each and every episode and how they were going to make their relationship work in the real world. Who can forget all of their never ending discussions on this subject, which were also a pain in our backsides, not to even mention that Frank rejection scene in Tahiti.

This year, instead of actually seeing Ashley go through this up and down romance, physically each week, with Bentley we just get to hear about it. Certainly it is annoying everyone to death because this season Fleiss just does not have any men onboard like Chris Lambton to keep the viewers happy. Ben F. is a great guy, appears to be getting the Chris L. edit, but personality and humor wise just cannot replace Chris on this show. So we get the too happy Ryan drama with the guys and Ashley lamenting about Bentley to keep the lid on Ashley's intended F1.

No matter how hard everyone is coming down on Ashley, we should all remember she did not choose this group of men to be on her show. They were the choice of TPTB and if they assembled dull, mature men without the Frat Boy mentality you can't blame Ashley for their casting. Have to remember most of these guys came on the show for adventure and travel around the world. A small number were there for Ashley and developed feelings for her. Unfortunately, the remaining cast is not a bunch of clowns to keep us entertained and Ashley can't turn them into clowns.

I agree with you that it has been JP all along. I can't blame the group of guys entirely, though. Plain and simple...Ashley wasn't cut out to be the Bachelorette. To take on this role you have to go along with the script....make it believable that you fall for more than one guy. You also have to give each guy a fair chance and not lust after a guy who says all the right things to you. Ashley is a mature, smart girl but pretty naive in the dating world, imo.

Now I understand why RS got the goods this year, the producers knew it was going to be a losy show so they give him all to report. I am wrong JP wins big enough to admit it and move on from it. Time to sit back and just watch the stupidity of it all. Fleiss gave RS his due this season hopefully we have something better to do next season. That is why the edit is wonky she choose her final 1 night one and all the others got a good vacation.

I noticed somewhere else on this thread that the guys may be so angry this season they are spilling to RS themselves. Who knows. I would not blame anyone for doing so.

Is Fleiss trying to end this show for good? Whose idea was this whole Bentley thing and then to just keep on and on and on with it? It is making it almost impossible to watch the show. I like Ashley and I think she has quite a few good guys and even more eye candy men - but TPTB are ruining it and making Ashley look just plain STUPID ! jmho

This is what I found myself thinking after watching last night's show. We always have a villain every season, one who seems to charm the Bachelorette right out of her own good sense. However, there are some real problems with Bentley being the one this time. First, he just wasn't there long enough to make it believable that Ashley would fall head over heels. What did we really see of them together? Second, no villain has ever done videos saying the kind of disgusting things that Bentley has said about Ashley. What's to like about him? The viewing audience knows that Ashley isn't aware of this, but they also know that she was specifically warned about him with credible information. So the whole thing seems positively bizarre. I also don't think Bentley came across as appealing in any way. He's not good looking as far as I am concerned, no charm, no wit, no smarts, nothing. He's dead on camera.

A big problem is Ashley throwing caution to the wind and just allowing herself to buy his fakery. If she wanted to keep him there, then it would make sense to proceed with caution. The problem is, what's to like about this guy? The fact that there are other really great guys on the show, only punctuates the weirdness of it all.

JP is extremely appealing. I personally think JP is very good looking in a rugged Heath Ledger kind of way. He is extremely sexy and that's something you either have or you don't (Hello Bentley!). Then there is sweet, laid back Ben F. He comes across as a great guy, fun, smart, quietly charming. Ryan is certainly good looking, seems to say all the right things, is happy as a clam. Mickey has more of the classic good looks that most women would like, but comes across as having zero personality. I get the sense that he is along for the ride, nothing more. As the previews for next week show, there is a cost in bringing Bentley back. That clip with Mickey shows that he is beyond fed up and also says pretty much what the audience must be thinking - I don't understand what you see in this guy!

I have read the reasons why Bentley was picked to play this role, but I do think that it's not playing out well at all. Ashley risks looking like a young woman who is chasing a phantom, a figment of her imagination. I just hope that all this insanity doesn't end up destroying what was the true love story and that was JP and Ashley.

Totally agree! Don't want our sweet mellow California man to get his heart stomped on by TPTB! Hopefully this experience has opened him up emotionally and he will meet a wonderful woman in real life soon. :animated heart

Even tho Sami and i have been very good friends since Jerry Ferris got dumped ;-) and we talk hours after every episode and we have covered this issue many times seeing it wrote down makes even better sense and i couldn't agree with her more well done Sammie :Nod:

I wouldn't be surprised if Ben were the f1 but think he's better off if he's not after this fiasco of a season. He's getting a great edit so should probably avoid doing TB if asked.

I think Mickey is probably the best pick with the good looks all will like. I just think we haven't had a chance to get to know him this season. Ryan might be okay if he is less one dimensional. Ames would be interesting and might confuse some of the not so bright bachettes. JP doesn't interest me. I don't see him as being good looking or hot or even all that interesting. He does seem nice enough.

I really was just summarizing all of everybody's thoughts and not really adding anything original :giggle: Except for the part about why the negative edit for Ashley doesn't necessarily reflect TPTB's view of her relationship with her F1.

I just read a CH interview posted in Media where he says Ashley's happy and almost cocky when she comes out of her talk with Bent but it isn't until the RC that she realizes the repercussions of the whole thing in terms of how the guys will react. I find that very telling. First off it makes it obvious the Bent stuff in the more recent episodes was played up for storyline purposes. Second, that means they're going to deal with straight on the issue of how Ashley can pick anybody after the Bent thing and possibly also why any of the guys should trust her after the Bent thing. The storyline should shift. Will Ashley get the redemption edit she's probably been promised?
