I also think TPTB were "stuck". As long as Shawntel is still dealing with her dad and the business, she was in no position to take on this role either. Not unless she is willing to make some concessions with her Chico ties and I have seen nothing to indicate this. It seems like her dad and business are a huge factor in her life--like a single parent having a child.

IDK, we said ALL the same things about Ali last season and look at her now. Maybe we're wrong or maybe Ash's guy just didn't show up for her on this show. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt but even I have to agree, it's looking pretty bad for her right now.

I will admit that Ali had many flaws during her season. She is maturing now because of Roberto. Maybe this is what Ashley needs is a great guy to help her mature. I just expected more from her as the Bachelorette because of her accomplishments. There was so much talk before the season started of her being the first professional bachelorette for the franchise. I am beginning to see that being the most professional doesn't have anything to do with maturity.

I'm not saying Ashley didn't pick anyone, in fact, I doubt she didn't pick someone. TPTB seem to have great manipulative powers with Ashley, so I do believe she walked away with someone. Fleiss would much rather have this, than not.
I just don't see it as her "one". I'm not seeing an A/R or T/R.

I was impressed with Ashley tonight. She's making a real effort to wrap her head around things & she's asking the men very good questions.

TPTB made a serious effort with the manufactured Ryan drama..I felt bad for the guy. He's a little bit of tool, sure, but he seems genuinely there for Ashley.

They also went out of their way to manufacture a jealous JP...I didn't find his jealousy to be at all mean-spirited. He's obviously a somewhat competitive, but you have to be in NYC to survive.

Ames was interesting but I don't think he's right romantically for Ash. He could be a great next Bachelor. Same for Con.

Ben F does have such a kind-hearted demeanor, what woman wouldn't be turned on by that? His personality is reminiscent of Ryan Sutter.

As I see it, its:

Beta Ben F vs. Alpha-JP

And those kisses!

SWEET vs. HEAT!

Ashley is a nice, intelligent girl but emotionally immature. I picture her like a preteen with a Justin Bieber crush on Bentley...in a room with a huge poster on the wall she stares at all day long.

I think MF must have been pacing around his office when he heard that all Ashley wanted to talk about was Bentley and finally said he had enough. Is it any wonder why he threw he under the bus? If we are sick of hearing about Bentley, and this is what they had to show us....I guarantee they had miles of film on the cutting room floor with Bentley talk.

"Ring ring ring. Hello this is MF calling from the Bachelorette. How much would it cost me to have you fly to Hong Kong on the next flight out and tell Ashley she is not right for you? Ashley is ruining this season and I need her to move on to the next guy. Great, that's a deal."

I say best if she dated more in the real world. If she picked someone it will not last. I love both JP and Ben F but want them to run away.

Just caught up on all the posts. I definitely think this episode confirmed our prediction that Bentley (or the ghost of Bentley) would be remaining a prominent character on the show for quite a while longer. (I started counting the times "Bentley" was said, and stopped at 20.) And although I'm sure Ashley was still hung up on him in Thailand, I do think the producers prompted her to keep talking about him, and her obsession with him was exaggerated somewhat for purposes of the show.

Clearly, RS was at least right that the F2 are JP and Ben F, nobody else stands a chance. And if she took Constantine and Ames (safe picks with no chemistry, but who also wouldn't try to maul her) all the way to her F4, it's because she knew that none of the other guys were the least bit right for her.

They have definitely created the impression for the average viewer that Ashley picked nobody at the end; therefore, I am convinced that she did pick a F1. I am also starting to hope it's actually Ben that she picks because it seems highly unlikely that Ashley is mature enough to get serious with anyone right now, and I suspect that JP, being older, is more ready than Ben is. If she does DWTS and spends the fall in LA, Ben can come visit her from Sonoma and they can date for a while, JP can find a nice, more mature NY girl (I'm sure they'll be lining up), and Bentley can try to get back with his ex or start hanging out in NC so he can pursue Emily.

I can kind of see why Ryan is annoying to the rest of the guys (and they pretty much all agreed that he was, including both JP and Ben F, so there's got to be some truth to it). He's always "on", and over the top, he also seemed clueless that the other guys didn't really care for him, which further proves the point that something is off there. He seems like the kind of guy who doesn't think the glass is just half full, but totally full, all the time. That attitude is great for being successful in business, but if he never dials it back a notch in his private life, it can be very hard to live with. I actually don't think he's fake or disingenuous, like the guys have said (which is what Jake was IMO), he's just truly a little "unique". I'm sure there's an equally unique woman out there who will connect with him, but it's not Ashley. I sort of hope he's not the next Bachelor though, because I don't see a whole season of his personality wearing very well. Right now, I'd love to see Ames as the next Bachelor; he's so articulate and doesn't speak in trite cliches. We might actually get a season of intelligent conversation for once!

Ames would be too intelligent to fall for the tricks of TPTB!!!
But I agree, it was so refreshing to hear an actual intelligent conversation on this show. He would become so bored with Ashley in the real world.

I loved Ames!! The whole time I was thinking he is waaaaaay to mature for her though. I get the same vibe from Mickey as well.

I think after the number that Bentley pulled on her that she goes for the uber-safe choice in Ben F. Probably best for all if she did this. JP looks like he doesn't need the kind of fall-out that comes with the Bach, especially if it's not a true love match and he was only chosen for the sake of choosing somebody. Ben really doesn't look like he's really all that into it, and it'd probably be easier in the long run for it to just peter out in California.

I'm in the process of re-watching the episode and agree with whoever (first) said that this season may be a re-do of Jillian's-- I'll be danged if I didn't see her beach ball floating in the pool at the mansion as the camera panned in to show CH talking with the guys! (I was convinced that her beach ball was a clue that she picked Reid-- she posed with it on her blog picture and she played with it with Reid for a while until a helicopter picked them up.) UGH!!
