Re: Tweet/Facebook Updates - Bachelorette 8 - Discussion
PW never claimed to be charity or non profit organization. I applaud them for helping others. ENSO is to blame for the problem with their bottles. Many people will drink bottled water no matter what you say so why not help others in the process? PW is getting a new website so hopefully it will be easier to track the projects that are going on. If bottled water is so damaging to our environment, how much more harmful is the exhaust fumes from racing events?

Mmm, not to argue about the value or virtue of Jef vs. Arie's jobs but rather to clarify: Arie is a race-car commentator now: one who discusses the events of an IndyLights race. He also hosts fans of Indy by offering them kart rides, and he has a kart shop. Many people's hobbies are also part of their day job. It's not better or worse than Jef's job. I'll let jlccaz present on the bottled water industry/charities.
From my perspective, both Arie and Jef have more money than the average American. The only thing that's important to me about either of them and their work is that they recognize their privileged position in society and CHOOSE to give back to others in an honest way, not for the praise, adulation, and publicity, but because it's a good and right thing to do.

Very true. And my guess is both of them give back on a personal level and we don't know about it because there is no reason why we should.

1. "Biodegradable" appears in/on People Water promotional material. Only PW is "to blame" for their own advertising.
2. Many people mistakenly think it's a charity if you browse the WWW. (The same problem Ethos had until they fixed their labeling)
3. Just want PW tell purchasers the facts, coincident with the huge burst of national attention on their brand they expect/seek/will enjoy as a consequence of the show. Tom's (from whom Jef and Cody seemingly copied this one for one idea, while also copying Ethos for the cause) at least publishes a useful guide. http://www.toms.com/media/files/8.24.11_GivingReport_Update.pdf One could do a similar "takedown" of the fallacy of the Tom's model, but who's got time, and at least they explain it clearly.

jlccaz, thank you for this information. It's super fascinating to read about this industry. Thank you for taking the time to educate us beyond the show. I appreciate it!

Thanks for all the info jlccaz. I appreciate the ability to learn more about these "charity" organizations. All this just reiterates my stance on what charities I support and those I don't. All I know is I won't be buying People Water any time soon.
