Re: Bachelorette 8 - Media - Discussion
Well, if realiy tv show wedding can be classified as an emergency then their restrictions and standards are not all they are hyped up to be. Just sayin'.

Great posts and a cool exchange of alternative ideas. I'm not crapping on Emily here at all, just feeling what I'm not feeling from the promos.
Possible they wanted her to pick Arie? Yeah, I guess, but like someone else said: both guys have looked great and have big followings, so I can't see that. The promos are just wonky. That all. Ratings may also have some bearing, but I think that's nlikely too.
Just what I read upstream: it doesn't "feel" like Fleiss got what he wanted and is quickly shifting gears. All my guesses and they might be wrong. Great discussions regardless.

TPTB does not have what they wanted.
The evidence is that they're not promoting the finale and are trying to deflect attention to BP3. (Barbarossa, I love your term of SleazePad.)
I'm thinking about what "not what they wanted" implies. I think it's safe to say they wanted a "fairy tale ending" with either of the two guys. They probably preferred one over the other, but they've made them both look good, so I think the identity of the F1 is a non-issue here. TPTB remain less than thrilled.
The thing that's throwing me off big time is that Jef's mom (and possibly dad) has taken some kind of leave from her mission, which was described as something that happens only in an emergency. I'm trying to figure out what kind of emergency Jef might have that requires his mom. Any ideas?
I'm also going to toss out the possibility that Emily is pregnant. If so, a quicky marriage already done behind the scenes might really upset TPTB, since they want to broadcast Bach/ette weddings. I don't think that's what happened, but I thought I'd at least put it out there. I'd be happy to have this idea shot down.
Jeff's emergency -- helping him mend a broken heart? He's looked pretty danged happy post-show but that could be about getting so much free publicity for his company. Otherwise, I don't know. Sorry to be morbid, but has anybody checked death notices for a Holm connection? Possible family/close friends in Colorado? Probably would have heard about that via twitter or instagram or TellSomebodyInUtah though.
Emily being pregnant -- gawd I hope not. All I can say is if I'm one of the guys with a possible overnight date with Emily, and knowing that she has already accidentally gotten pregnant by the son of a bazillionaire, and I'm from money also, I'd be extra careful about that one.
The "emergency" that got Jef's mom to emerge from her mission might be an Engagement, not a Wedding. (Plus, if it's just Jef's mom and not his dad also, that might more sense than a Wedding).
When I saw that Jef suggest he and Emily forego the FS to "bridle our passions" because Ricki, parents, and reputations involved, it seemed likely (and possibly a foreshadowing) that he might suggest they hold off on an Engagement at the FRC. He might suggest they have a proper courtship (maybe even propose a certain duration, like 3 mos), get all family members better acquainted with each other, and have a formal engagement with family in attendance. Hence a Live ATFR with a Live Engagement.
2 things that go against this idea:
- Speculation is that Emily & Jef leave Curacao already engaged
- As noted recently in this thread, Fleiss/ABC are not overhyping the finale, and even spending more time hyping BP3. That would suggest that nothing remarkable, neither wedding nor engagement, happens on Live ATFR.
P.S. I've been catching up on the 2nd season of Love in the Wild this past week. It's aimed at a yonger demo than Bach/ette. And I think it's been a sleeper hit. Perhaps they are seeing the success of LITW and trying to go after a piece of that pie with BP3, and that's why the emphasis on BP3 over Emily's own finale at the MTA. Unfortunately, BP3 is really more crass than LITW, the latter of which seems like an interesting exercise in how to form, bond, and resolve conflict in relationships.

My feelings about this season in a nutshell. Maybe we could needlepoint a sampler for her with this sentiment, you know, as a daily reminder.
I know people have strong feelings about all of this, as they always do. I'm just noticing one emotion noticeably lacking from the promotions of the finale: "satisfying."
Just my observations and they could all be dead wrong.
Satisfying for whom...the cast or the audience?
The audience. But the two are tied together. there are no bad guys this time. The whole f3 looked wonderful. But the big payoff for the audience seems to be lacking. And I could be wrong, but I just don't sense it in the promos.
Wedding at the ATFR? No chance. That's the one thing I'm sure is not going to happen. This is Fleiss' dream. They'd be screaming from the rooftops if they had this in their pocket. They'd be calling it the event of the summer, blah, blah, blah And there is no way they wouldn't have it on a special night and longer than one hour too.
Emily pregnant? Certainly possible. And maybe they would struggle to promote it as well.
I suspect that's not it though. Just something that's not completely satisfying to the audience.
I'm happy to be wrong.

I am definitely not watching the series anymore. I am sick of recycled opportunistic reality stars. Hardly any of them have anything going for them, except maybe some of the professionals such as Ashley, Ames, Blake, Reid.

I think Bachelor Pad is Fleiss' answer to the sleezy reality shows on cable which I would name except I can't because I don't watch. Some of the early producers of the show jumped ship at The Bachelor to go and do one or more of those shows. (Maybe there's an old timer that can remember which one.) That was what Fleiss wanted for The Bachelor years ago and they wouldn't let him do it. Now that the sleeze factor has creeped into network TV Fleiss is finally getting what he always wanted by way of BP.

This article, while facetious, highlights how formulaic things have become. From BuddyTV:

'The Bachelorette' Finale Drinking Game: Arie Vs. Jef Vs. Your Liver
It's that time again! The Bachelorette finale, when one heart will be broken, and two hearts will beat as one.
We've seen the spoilers, the photos, the preview and the hype.
It's going to be the "most dramatic Bachelorette finale EVER!" And the After the Final Rose is going to be LIVE! Which means none of us REALLY know what's going to happen until it's all over.
Yes, as Emily tries to decide which man who's never met her daughter is the best man to be her daughter's step-father, the stakes are impossibly high for us all. Every single one of us.
Basically all I'm trying to say is that this is the most important drinking game you're ever going to play. So play it well -- with friends around in case you need a shoulder to cry on. Or someone to drive you to the hospital.
Drink every time someone says:
"amazing/incredible journey"
"more than I ever imagined"
"impossible choice/decision"
"I don't know what to do"
"there's no doubt in my mind"
Drink every time:
Emily cries.
Chris Harrison drops a knowledge bomb.
Arie or Jef talk about how ready they are to get married/be a stepdad/inseminate Emily with a million future babies.
One of Emily's family members says something logical and she's like, "Whaaaa?"
Drink two:
If Emily releases one of the men before the rose ceremony.
Drink three:
If Emily lets both men get down on one knee before letting one of them go.
Drink four:
If Emily changes her mind about which man she wants to marry during the finale or "After the Final Rose."
Drink five:
If Emily and Jef/Arie get engaged in Curacao but are already broken up by the "After the Final Rose."
DRINK FOREVER:
If the "After the Final Rose" includes a live wedding.
Wow, it's going to be such the most romantic drinking game EVER. I can't wait! See you kids back here on Sunday night!
