Bachelorette 8 - Media - Discussion - Page 23 Empty Re: Bachelorette 8 - Media - Discussion

Well you guys have got me thinking. Maybe I haven't seen enough of the pre-finale hype, maybe the social media age is changing the way they hype the finale, but something "feels different.". I'm seeing so much hype about Bachelor Pad--reminding me what a whorehouse it is, etc. I'm just not getting the usual cupids and hearts and im sure not getting the whole ATFR rose wedding scenario.

Underneath all the BS, I'm getting the vibe that TPTB are not wholly thrilled with the outcome. I might be wrong, of course. But the hype is not fitting their classic happy ending to my ears. Like I said, could be all me. We DVR everything and I only watch commercials when they're specially posted here. Harrison's stop on Jimmy Kimmel I did watch--all of it. Dramatic ending. Yep. Happy ending? Didn't hear that. I know they usually pimp the opposite of the truth, but I'm not getting much excitement from the producers on Twitter.

Something just feels funny. But it could just be me.

jlccaz wrote:Another press release clue (unique to this season) is that her mother makes an "astonishing" suggestion, which one can assume for now is the previewed suggestion not to go through with a TV proposal. I can't believe Emily is going to miss making those pretty pictures for TV, no way. She gets proposed to by Jef during the show. She is making her own fantasy Barbie-type TV show: outfits! jewellry! hair! make-up! No way does she walk away from the long planned for finale for any reason to do with the status of a relationship. So I am persuaded that will be the ultimate outcome. A proposal in the courtyard in the dress she picked out with the man she picked out.

I'm hangin' out here in week 9 hoping for my "awwww" at the moment in the finale but Jef has turned out to be so Canned on Camera Iand Arie coming off as Smitten and Honest) that it sucks.

I'm now left to hoping that the live portion treats us to post finale footage or something in the studio that shows what's real.

I had some diehard Reid fan friends in attendance at Jillian's ATFR, and they left noting that Ed was incredibly, strikingly handsome and charismatic in person, and Jillian was simply over the moon. (Ed was still Ed of course, not remotely ready to settle down). And when Reid came out it was awkward and horrible.

So it is possible to change one's views as a viewer. My opinion is that Emily legitimately picked Jef over Arie, and as I have posted before, she is tearing up about Arie during the fantasy date episode in anticipation of letting such a sweet, lovely relationship go albeit in favor of something else.

I do controversy for a living. It is most often the case that both sides in a debate are more right than not.
1. She and Arie had a lovely real thing going on.
2. Jef had more lasting appeal over time.
3. The format of the show mandates a choice on a particular timetable.
4. She is more about the TV Pictures she is making than anything else, so there will be a proposal, and it will be Jef.
5. She and Jef have built something resembling Coupledom over the past eight weeks.
6. Arie had real feelings, but will bounce back thanks in part to Mad Skills in wooing and attracting women (lots of experience).
7. People Water is a start up in an overcrowded space, trying to catch a wave/trend for Do-Good slogans to promote consumer goods, and use a reality TV show to launch it from obscurity to a national distribution plan. But the publicity is a bit premature, because compliance-wise the gimmick and the labeling are far from ready for primetime.
8. Before going on the show (purpose: People Water), Jef memorized lines to speak on camera, and had a careful Sun Tzu type strategy to beating the competition and winning the girl. He waited around to see if he had a real chance, and built up trust and rapport with producers so he could manage his own image. Arie probably had mixed motives as well, and I have at least 100 posts supporting my view that the sane people who do the show are the ones who have somethng to gain financially.

Off to pack for vacay! Yay!

Sorry to double post. But this might be the most incitefull thing ive ever read. Not even sure i agree with it, but deep is deep. Congrats.

Please be right, Barbarossa! That would be far more entertaining! I could make that case as well, with equally logical numbered paragraphs, professional tic, hahaha. I would love to watch a SPECTACLE unfold, and read your views about it the next day!

It could just be me. I've had some rough personal news the past few days which might be altering my perceptions. And I realize that the methods of how they promote the show are rapidly changing but a few things stick out.

Harrison on Kimmel spoke about the Live ATFR and says he's begged for this because live tv is chaos. Chaos? Little Ricki coming out to sit on Jef's lap is chaos? Yeah, live tv is always chaos--I get that. I'm just measuring how I perceive them acting compared to what I saw on the Fantasy Dates. The 2nd part of Arie/Emily, I thought I saw her back off and cool down. I saw Jef handle her masterfully. I know a live ATFR is a better way to conceal the ending, but it's not necessary if the endingis conventional.

Is it possible that one of the million tabloids got it right? Arie dumped her and she got engaged to Jef anyway? Fans on both sides go "huh? WTF?". If Emily was devastated by Arie dumping her, can people swallow her still accepting a proposal from Jef? Is the live ATFR a place where she has to show that she and Jef was the right way all along and it was a blessing Arie dumped her?

Emily has been their golden child. They bent over backwards to get her. I'm just not feeling the hype of a fairy tale ending befitting their golden child.

But like I said, this might just be me and I could be completely wrong. I'm just feeling "unconventional ending". Maybe no disaster or what I've even put forward, just something different. Fleiss' tweet comes to mind when I match the hype to the promos "Those who think they know the ending, don't. It's not over till its over."

I posted something similar yesterday. I agree, its like they just want this season over and done and move on to BP3. Its a very odd season!

Maybe that's it, Tigger. Maybe it's because Bachelor Pad 3 is starting so soon afterward. I don't know. But it feels like they want to get this one behind them. No savoring the wonderful outcome for the single mom and her lovely daughter. They wanted to get Ben behind them, but I understood that. He picked the one girl that everyone loathed. That was the scenario they had to work with when they went to the editing shack and built their story. They knew all they could focus on was Courtney and her negative aspects. They then handed it over to their promo people and said, "ok, we got an engagement, by it's gonna be as popular as swine flu--sell it!"
They were highlighting Emily as the next Bachelorette before Ben was even close to being finished.

Now? They aren't even to the finale and they're bombarding us with promos for Sleaze Pad 3. They even moved the Sleaze premiere up to build off Emily's ending. Maybe it's just weird when u combine the two. Emily's fairytale family dream and Chris recovering from his broken heart by being a manwhore. just seems odd that they moved thir flagship show to make room for their "Jersey Shore."

Something just lacks the celebratory feel. But it could just be how I'm taking it too.

I can't help but think in the tangle of all this maybe/maybe not drama, is the one person sitting by innocently....Ricki! Which brings me back to Emily's judgement on going on this farce show to begin with!!!! As Emily, Jef and Arie play into this season-ending Kabooommmmmm and all of the crying and indecisiveness, waits a little girl who is dependent upon her mother. Did Emily's comment on 'a homeless man with tattoos' bring any comfort to grandparents Hendricks? Bah! Post-show, TPTB have set everyone up for a ride...our single-mom has willingly jumped on that train and lil Ricki is watching from the sidelines, a bystander to her mom's primetime adventure!

I have thought of this often but bite my tongue because it got do old hashing it out over Jason and this is worse and faker. She hasn't changed her stripes since she had that bad tv show about NASCAR. Her self esteem is all Barbie like -- "I'm pretty! There's something I can do!". Ashley suffered from an unflattering edit the first half of season (broken picker edit) but she was always in real life a smart accomplished three dimensional woman. Emily hasn't found herself and won't find herself through a tv career. In a way a quickie marriage into a large religious family would be therapeutic if she stayed off tv for awhile. She could use some of what they got.

And it makes me sad to think of ricki the bystander. But kids are adaptable and resilient I suppose and perhaps Emily thought all those big Mormon families would love her daughter all the awhile dressing her like Suri. Different strokes

Yep and this is why Emily and this season have been the final straw and I've almost totally stopped watching. Go to college, Emily and stop marrying/getting engaged to people on TV. It's humiliating!

My feelings about this season in a nutshell. Maybe we could needlepoint a sampler for her with this sentiment, you know, as a daily reminder.
