I totally agree. Brad was so nervous; they were in a bad place.
I'm glad for Emily & Ricki that they are genuinely happy. Jef & Emily seem to be constantly teasing each other (not fully audible) and having fun. Although I agree that the body language at the proposal was stiff.
On the Body Language thread, this and other ATFR videos (JP-Ashley, Ali-Roberto, Jake-Vienna, Ben-Courtney, Jillian-Ed, etc.) need posted with the new uploads of Jef-Em. It would also be fun to compare Reid at ATFR with Arie, because he gave me a similar vibe tonight in his facial expressions... and hers with him to a degree.
I am watching the above video with the sound off and seeing stuff I didn't catch earlier.
Poor Brad. He is doing all of the touching and she just... sits there. When she does touch him, it is to stop him from doing something or reassure that he did nothing wrong... she just can't go through with it. At one point, she pats him in an annoying, slightly condescending, way. In fact, her body language with Brad resembles, in hindsight, how she was with many guys she dumped and couldn't explain why.
What made this FRC a bit "stiff" was that Jef was likely reading a few lines he wrote. That was obvious with his looking down a lot. There is nothing wrong with that, since I think they all do when there are specific words needed spoken for the camera. Well... JP didn't look like he was in his, but he probably has a photographic memory.
Again, she was zeroing in on Jef early on and Ricki was the deciding factor. That kid was all over Jef in a way she wasn't with Brad. In fact, Emily was probably struggling to imagine Arie with her even though she kept saying she was confident he and Ricki would get along. Remember too that Jef, not Arie, was on the Muppet date that Ricki attended (and she did see Jef even if she didn't meet him) and playing with kids on the second group date. As a result, Emily already had The Image in her mind.

I thought it was hilarious! I was wondering if he kept it "PG" enough that Ricki could look at it, too.

I think when Emily said she felt more confident that it would work out with Jef, it was her way of saying that she felt she and Jef were just more compatible overall than she and Arie were, in terms of lifestyle, values, culture, families meshing, etc. And I suspect she's correct. She was in "Bachelor love" with both of them, which even the successful couples have admitted isn't enough, and you have to fall in love FOR REALZ after the show is over. So rather than get hung up on that, she based her decision on which guy she saw a smoother future with, and that was Jef. Had her feelings for Arie been stronger, none of the rest of it would have mattered, but clearly they weren't, or she wouldn't have dumped him.
Regarding Arie's journal, I certainly understand why he left it on her door, and if Emily was having ANY second thoughts about her decision at any point over the past few months, she would have read it. But apparently she wasn't, and as a result, it would have been highly disrespectful to have done so, so I'm not at all surprised that she never even opened the package.
There's no telling what the future will hold, but I have no doubt that this couple is sincerely happy and truly believes that they are soulmates right now, and they expect it to work out. If the fact that they (I suspect it's largely coming from Jef) are more circumspect in their PDAs than some other couples makes them less interesting to watch for some viewers, or causes these viewers to doubt or denigrate their relationship, so be it. I'm sure Jem couldn't care less. And from the smiles on their faces tonight, I suspect that things are going quite well in that department for both of them in private. :giggle:

With Brad, Emily hadn't seen Ricki in awhile, plus she was younger at the time, so I can see why she was more reserved at first but she opened up just fine after awhile. Emily didn't give Arie the chance to meet Ricki, so we'll never know how that would have gone.JBF wrote:

There was no point, she already knew it was Jef. And isn't there some proof that she actually let Arie go before she even had her date with Jef (and before he met Ricki)? Either way, Ricki wasn't making the decision, Mommy was. Mommy just needed confirmation that Jef would be as great with Ricki as she thought and hoped he would be in order to be 100% sure, which she got. If it had been Arie she was favoring by that point, she would have had him meet Ricki instead of Jef. But it was clear to me that Em had no intention of ever letting both guys meet her daughter, just the one she wanted. FOR REALZ.

I totally agree with you. I'm glad Emily acknowledged that she has a hard time being direct with people and she definitely could've used some help in her break-up with Arie. The one time she mentioned Jef, at least from what we were shown, was when she said that she felt more confident in her relationship with Jef. And I think Arie hung onto that quote and read into it that she had some doubts about Arie. He thought she chose Jef because of that, that she felt like Jef was a safer bet. So that's why he felt like flying to Charlotte or showing her his journal could change things. When really, her heart was just simply with Jef and she felt like he was 'the one' for her. She just didn't choose the best choice of words at the time. But between his talks with Jef and watching the show, it seems like he was able to realize that's what it was about and got some closure. I've never really been an 'Arie fan', but I loved the way he handled himself tonight.ironcat wrote:I think when Emily said she felt more confident that it would work out with Jef, it was her way of saying that she felt she and Jef were just more compatible overall than she and Arie were, in terms of lifestyle, values, culture, families meshing, etc. And I suspect she's correct. Re: Episode 12 - 7/22 - Bachelorette 8 - ATFR (Live) - Discussion
So thrilled for Jef and Emily but I got wierd vibes last nite during the after.
Jef just wasn't "on". CH did not ask any question about a Live wedding- but Emily has talked about how she would do one in the past etc. I didn't bet any great vibes going from Jef or Emily to CH.
We also pretty much got confirmation that all of their pics and tweets have been little clues- even the ones we couldn't prove.
Why?
I think Jef and Emily and Arie are not happy with TBPT. I could be way off base on this but....
I think it might might have to do with the Emily, Arie situation.
1. they are probably furious at the way it played out causing more hurt for Arie ie F2 instead of F3- orchestrated by TBPT
2. Furious that when TBPT got wind of Arie's trip to charlotte they insisted on a live ATFR to capitalize on the drama at Arie's expense and take away time from celebrity their love.
3. Maybe some of the edit- on both sides Arie to be purely physical and Jef to not be.
I think they decided to do their own thing- shout out their love for each other (without crossing the line) and that is the end of their relationship with TBPT.
