Episode 12 - 7/22 - Bachelorette 8 - ATFR (Live) - Discussion

I like these ideas but I just want to say...my hubby and I don't alway like to do the same things and we don't always like the same things. He is a night owl and I am a morning person. I like to dress up and he likes to wear tshirts and bball shorts. We do compromise by either me staying up a little later couple times a week or he comes to bed earlier a couple times a week. He will take me out to a nice restaurant and plan for a carriage ride or go with me to the theater and at other times we go hiking or play tennis and eat somewhere more casual. It makes it intersting...never a dull moment. Our annv is Tuesday (13yrs) so it evidently works for us:-)

Sure of course! You are proving our point re the new idea about fantasy dates. Even if you go about things in a different way / like different things, does that bring you closer or is it a rude awakening. I'd like to see a weekend away episode devoted to each of the final three.

Just thinking about this more, can you imagine the opportunity for laughs? Lost luggage, rain, getting lost... You learn SO much about people when you travel with them. If TPTB want more couples to "last" to gain the show credibility, this is an excellent way to make it happen.

Okay all, now off to do something that I actually get paid to do.

So I am curious about something .. If the EST folks watch the Finale at 8 pm and then the LIVE ATFR part at 10pm .. Then at what time will PST folks be watching the finale and then the LIVE portion .. As there will be no delay like there usually is...Unless they use live recorded technique to do so

I think they will watch AFTR at 10pm as a pre-recorded "live "event.

"I thought the announcement of the live ATFR show on Sunday, July 22nd was pretty self explanatory, but some people are still confused about how TV works based on a few emails I received, so let me explain. Yes, the finale airs Sunday night the 22nd with a 2 hour finale and one hour live after show. However, that “live” after show is only live on EST and CST, since we watch the show at the same time. Mountain timers and West Coasters, you’re still getting everything on tape. For you to actually watch the ATFR live, that means that the “Bachelorette” would have to start at 5:00 on Sunday night, with the live finale happening at 7:00. Not happening. So this is really no different than any other show that you get to see after the EST and CST time zone people have already seen it, but because they threw in the live ATFR, looks like some people thought that everyone in America is seeing that show live. Not the case. So basically, stay off your Twitter and Facebook that night if you don’t want to know what went down."

I agree. I actually think the fantasy dates should change up a bit - give them more of a chance to find out if they truly have things in common. Eg. instead of planning everything out for them, hand the couple a plane ticket, tell them where the reservations are then let them find their own way there, handling their own luggage, taxis, etc. and instead of the over-the-top romantic dates give them $1,000-$2,000 to choose to do whatever they agree upon. Could change things up if you find out you don't like doing the same things or going to the same type of restaurant, etc.

JL, I absolutely LOVE your idea for the Fantasy Dates. It would really make it more interesting to watch, and the couples would have a better idea how their partner would handle things in the real world.

The more I think about it, the more I think that MF decided to have a live ATFR largely because he was sick of the details of what happened on it getting out before it aired, and knew the only way to totally avoid that happening was a live show. And I suspect that once all the buzz from fans started after the announcement, questioning what exactly this change from the norm "meant", he just decided to run with it by implying that there would be some big shock or twist on the episode. I will not be a bit surprised if it turns out to be nothing at all, but another attempt to juice ratings.

And IronCat we all know his shocks aren't what necessarily shocks us. I'll throw out an off-the-wall idea - maybe Ari says he's getting back with his ex-girlfriend. Unlikely but another theory to put on the block.

I got a mental picture of them running around amok like on The Amazing Race.
Seeing that most of these contestants are at least a bit greedy & entitled, the $1,000-$2,000 wouldn't go too far, & an unlimited credit card would be a disaster.

I think there'd be a lot of leads that would dump all 3 right then & there.

If there rooms are already paid for then I would think $2,000 would more than cover expenses for a 1 day/night date. Thought I read that the 1 day rental of the boat used for Jef's fd was $1,000.

It appears that Trista and Ryan may be at ATFR as she posted about flying out for a few days. Wonder if Ashley and JP will be there as well. Anyone have any news on that front?
