Re: Bachelorette 8 - Media - Discussion - Thread #4
Of all the stories I find L&S the most believeable (not the Brad part, just the waivering). I can see Emily having second thoughts potentially as she watches the show and relives her times with her F3. Especially if she waivered as to who her F1 was throughout the process. However, I don't feel bad for her if true, she knew what she was in for and how much time she would have with the guys from prior experience.
I am just going to wait and see what they come up with in the next few weeks.

cfck2222 wrote:Bizarre week in the tabloids. Your 1st look:
US Weekly has a 2 page spread on what a demanding, tempermental diva Emily is.
Life & Style's cover story is devoted to Emily secretly reaching out to Brad again.
OK's cover teases a feature story on Emily and Brad's reunion (not the main cover story) but it's misdirection.
Star has a one page story alleging Emily's actually going to end up with Chris Harrison.
US Weekly's story seems like a rehash of what's already out there. It claims Emily was absolutely furious with Cassie Lambert over the Arie dating reveal. It also claims she made the producers vet potential candidates for financial wellbeing and that she grilled the contestants, including Jef (whose picture is shown). The story also claims Emily is the only lead who was more or less frozen out Chris Harrison, who generally becomes good friends with all the leads. The claim made is Emily is the only lead who hasn't given CH her phone number. However, an anonymous source also somewhat contradicts that by saying Emily's been in touch with CH over twitter and sometimes texts him. The story also goes on to cast her as conceited and in this as a stepping stone for more fame. US says Emily is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ali and Melissa by converting this gig into more TV gigs.
The Life & Style story claims that Emily's having 2nd thoughts about her fiance because she pretty much only knew him for 20 hours before he proposed. There's a quote from Jillian confirming the small amounts of time the lead gets to spend with the F1 pre-proposal. So, Brad's allegedly been telling people Emily's gotten back in touch with him and is leaning on him because he knows her so much better than any of the guys this season. The story makes mention of how Emily was really into multiple guys and there's a quote from the show from the FRC where she's afraid of making a mistake. There are insets on all f4 guys, mentioning Arie letting her down over Kalon and then the Cassie L thing, Chris being too immature, Sean being a model (with a quote from Ashley H about how models are a red flag, I wouldn't be surprised if that weren't even from this season), and Emily being disappointed to discover how strategic Jef was. The story also claims Jef had consulted with former contestants to come up with the strategy of being elusive and holding back kisses, and it worked.
[My comment: I find this a very surprising article considering L&S is supposed to be the friendly tabloid. Maybe something happened.]
OK has a 2 page spread on how Bach'ette producers are angling to bring Brad to the ATFR show for ratings sake, so he can apologize to Emily for his temper and how badly he handled their relationship. Emily is allegedly not for this idea and she just wants to move on, but the producers allegedly want the ratings gold.
Star claims Emily and CH have fallen for each other. [My comment: This is funny because of US's claim Emily was the only lead who froze out CH] There are quotes in the story from Vienna and Jesse Czinscak. Jesse notes the coincidence of when CH's marriage fell apart, and how CH has always been flirty with the girls, but especially close with Emily. I don't remember what Vienna said, but she gave some kind of confirming quote, and also said something to the effect that she thinks there'll be a triangle situation between Emily, her F1, and CH and it's something Vienna would definitely watch.
[My editorial comment: I'm gonna guess that the one thing everybody on this board will agree on is to roll our eyes at Vienna and Jesse over their comments.]
[Further editorial commentary: Nobody from the show appears to be interested in redeeming this season to the media. Probably not a good sign of faith in their lead/F1. Life & Style's turnaround is especially strange - it's supposed to be the sympathetic tabloid that gets the unofficially approved spin from the show. Or, it was for the last few Bach/ette seasons, at least until a couple weeks ago.]
thank you for the laugh and blurb.
I have always in mind Ashley Hebert: DO NOT TRUST THE RAGS!
"Reality television frequently portrays a modified (...) day-to-day life, at times utilizing sensationalism to attract audience viewers and increase advertising revenue. Participants are often placed in exotic locations or abnormal situations, and are often persuaded to act in specific scripted ways by off-screen "story editors" or "segment television producers" with the portrayal of events and speech manipulated and contrived to create an illusion of reality through direction and post-production editing techniques." ~ Wikipedia |

I remember that story - and though they raised the question of whether JP was ready to settle down, they answered their own question with anonymous quotes from "friends" of his who said he'd settle down for the right person. On balance, it wasn't a negative story about JP.proudmommy50810 wrote:Pattycake92 wrote:Thanks for th PE update cfck2222! I checked the media archive for Ashley's season and Life and Style did do a negative story. The cover said something about how she was betrayed by her fiance. The story was about Ames, however, and his relationship with Jackie. But they did have quotes about JP and how he wasn't ready to settle down.
As proudmommy50810 pointed out, the betrayal story centered on Ames and Jackie. It was a classic misdirect.Fascinator11 wrote:I don't know what the actual artice said, but Life and Style did run a cover story that said Ashley was betrayed again, and it said something like her future fiance has a secret girlfriend back home. The had small pics of Ames, JP, and Ryan on the cover with it.
Like I said though the actual article might not have actually said JP was the guy with the gf back home and they could have been talking about someone else, but the cover said her future fiance.
That was in the middle of a positive story by Life & Style and was cast as a temporary spat with the most current information in the same story (in an adjacent paragraph to that quote) being about JP being overheard at an Egyptian restaurant whose name escapes me at the moment (Casa something) talking about how he was in the market for a new apartment for two. The whole story was about how Ashley and JP were working things out and happy to start their life together.pattycake92 wrote:“J.P. ended it,” a friend tells Life & Style magazine. “It just wasn’t working out, and when J.P. is upset about something, he’ll just say, ‘Okay, it’s over.’”
Look, I know tabloids are tabloids. But especially when a tabloid has an established relationship with production, there are clues to be found and there are red flags that rate consideration. It's entirely possible NEXT is no longer cooperating with Life & Style, but why would they suddenly cut things off? The tabloids are the show's way of creating pop culture buzz and there's generally a dynamic of one tabloid with access celebrating the happy couple, and a competing one that doesn't have access spreading nasty lies. I can see the invocation of Brad's name as a strategy to get more buzz going, but IMO, a happy coupling production believed in would result in "Brad Who? Emily's Revenge!" type stories that talked about how she is SOOOOOOOOO happy her new fiance can give her what Brad failed to give her and what she tragically lost when she lost Ricky.
This whole season's presentation has puzzled me. And trust me, I had high hopes for Emily/Jef. There are receipts - check my original post in reaction to Love_Me's spoiler. I had all sorts of great scenarios in my head for how Emily/Jef would unfold. Not only have none of them unfolded on TV, there's no narrative arc for the Emily/Jef story on TV at all. And, the fact that production doesn't seem to be lifting much of a finger to generate some tabloid excitement about Emily's fairy tale ending is telling IMO.

It's because of the bolded part that I questioned whether it's possible that Brad was the one who got in touch with them. Seems strange to me that a) Emily would confide in him about any problems - she has Cassie and any number of close friends as well as her mother (don't believe for a minute that she hasn't confided in someone). Also, Brad is wants to redeem himself quite badly and to be seen as the 'good guy'.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

I don't think Brad gives a hoot and isn't concerned about whether or not he's seen as a good guy. I also don't think for one moment that Brad would contact any magazine about anything.

Maybe Jef's song choice has a meaning...
Just kidding.
I believe it is possible that they were together this weekend and possibly with Ricki so everything was going ok as of then.
I guess we shall see soon enough until then I might as well enjoy the show and enjoy all of the Jem moments!

They had the secrets of the proposal a couple of weeks prior to finale and their next cover said they were having jealous fights. It came out right at the time of the finale.
