Sorry, I just have the biggest dose of schadenfreude for him and the way he was so confident before the season that Emily was going to draw Jake-like numbers.
I don't understand how Em hasn't gotten better numbers either - MF was frothing at the mouth to get her, but I think the bottom line is timeline - had this season happened instead of Ash's I suspect her numbers would've been higher. And I don't know why he would compare ratings numbers to a winter season vs. summer season. And I'll NEVER understand how Jake's season rated so well.
I agree.
I think it's very telling that Emily had more twitter followers than Ashley even after Ashley had her own season of The Bachelorette and now she has almost twice as many followers. Emily has more twitter followers than any person to ever be on The Bachelor/ette!
I know you're kidding here, but I'm not watching because it literally makes me want to poke myself in the eye with sharp sticks to see these great guys fall head over heels in love with this woman who seems to have accomplished nothing more than getting herself pregnant as a teenager. I think she's beautiful and seems like a nice person and good mother, but so what? I loved Ashley's season because she was smart, accomplished, and had the insecurities that I think most people can relate to. I also find her more physically attractive than Emily. What are Em's insecurities? Men can't handle her beauty or wealth? Please.
I thought the ratings would be huge too. Men do seem to love her, but I suspect woman don't universally feel the same. I secretly am joyful that Ashley's beating her in the ratings. And watching her break Arie's heart in a couple of weeks when I think he deserves light years better? I think I'll pass. Even though I don't watch BB either, I'm pretty sure I'll be busy... you know, rearranging my closet or something.

I see what you did there Ms.Archer

Exactly. The producers did a great job of building Jason Mesnick's story so that by the end of DeAnna's season, people wanted to cut her for allowing him to propose. He had a huge outpouring of sympathy, even in the media. His ratings were good, and after the RS bomb, they jumped even higher. Emily didn't have any of that positive build up. In fact, it was kind of the opposite what with her rather bland edit on Brad's season, then the insane ATFR, all those break-up/make-up stories, and her protestations about never doing the Bachelorette. Not the kind of stuff that is going to garner a lot of sympathy. And as Anders mentioned, having the Ashley and Ben seasons before hers didn't help. Unless he/she was truly beloved by viewers, it's better for a recycled lead to get back onscreen right away before the public starts to forget why they "liked" you in the first place.

Good post. I think it's been hard for me to relate to her in any way - maybe that's why I find myself not really liking her. I grew to like Ashley during her season. Not so much for Emily.

Same with me. And at this point in the season I would gladly trade Emily's robotic actions and appearance for Ashley's animation, articulation and frown lines!

Do you mean Ash picking at her teeth as opposed to M swiping her tongue her front teeth?

Sure, along with pulling at her bangs, jumping into her guys' arms - any signs of spontaneous activity! Can you imagine Emily doing dog voices?

oh that hair thing where she pulls it back, but not behind the ear, makes me wanna go through my screen and do it for her.
it's the tongue over the teeth action and those lippy kisses look horrible. It looks like her lips turn into ballons when she's going into for the kill.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Ratings thread
IMO from watching the shows, Emily is the kind of woman that the men will fall in love with quickly. This is a good thing for the show because viewers want to see the men fall head over heels for her fast. However whether that onscreen love/lust can be translated into an everlasting deal in real life remains to be seen, because it's obvious. from Emily's dating history that none of the guys she dated have stuck around for long.
I have mixed feelings about Ashley as the bachelorette. She is the most well rounded bachelorette on paper and from what we've seen after the show, she seems to have the staying power with the man. I mean once they fall in love with her, he will probably love her more because she seems to be very loving, caring and she has to lot to offer in a relationship. But her onscreen impact was not great. I don't know if it was because she was too real or she just had a bad edit. I talked to some people who are the average viewers who are not as crazy about the show as we are and they all said Ashley was the most real and normal and they liked her. They all think Emily put on a show. These are from attractive, accomplished women who did not have really strong feelings about the show either way.
Emily is so conscious of how America will view her that her every move seems to be calculated. Her behavior as a bachelorette was to please the viewers. I don't know if she is confident enough in herself to ignore the bad press and negativity. This may be challenging to her future relationship. As beautiful as she is, she is just as insecure as any woman, or even more so. I have a feeling Emily is aware that she does not have much to offer other than her looks. To keep a man interested it requires more than just looks. I think her insecurities are about her look, therefore all the veneers, botox, boob job etc. jmo

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Ratings thread
One of the main reasons I see for her ending up with Jef is that he makes her feel like she can be an interesting person. She has spoken about how he has given her a sense of self confidence that she has not had for a long time. I could see in their "job interview" conversation, for example, how much it moved her that he could imagine her in a useful and creative role. She does not want to be a trophy wife.....but I think she believes that is the way men see her and maybe the way she sees herself.....and she is probably correct.

I love this discussion. I wish I could pull over all the old FORT talk about this the first time around. She has never figured out who she is. She is just going to staple herself into this big Mormon family with richie rich and see what happens I guess. Weird choice.
