I don't understand how Em hasn't gotten better numbers either - MF was frothing at the mouth to get her, but I think the bottom line is timeline - had this season happened instead of Ash's I suspect her numbers would've been higher. And I don't know why he would compare ratings numbers to a winter season vs. summer season. And I'll NEVER understand how Jake's season rated so well.

Maybe many just don't embrace a single mother going on this show!

I agree.

I think it's very telling that Emily had more twitter followers than Ashley even after Ashley had her own season of The Bachelorette and now she has almost twice as many followers. Emily has more twitter followers than any person that's ever been on The Bachelor/ette!

Thanks Archer...as opposed to what?
Old people, LOL. By way of example, CBS pretty much dominates the primetime ratings, but a few years ago, there was lots of talk about the fact that, even though its shows were highly rated, on average, their viewers tended to be 55 and up, so they couldn't necessarily charge the same advertising rates that lower rated shows with younger audiences could. So a lower rated show with good ratings in the demo is usually more attractive to advertisers than a higher rated show that "skews old." Advertisers apparently think you stop being a consumer (of anything other than Viagra and Ensure) once you turn 50. Suspect

just my opinion, but I know a lot of folks who tuned out and never returned during Ash's season, blame it on Bentley. Then add Ben's season right aftewards. And the Chantal vs. Emily fans were pretty evenly split - so that may have changed the dynamic of the audience - if you're a fan of one, you're not likely to watch the other, especially since they are two totally different women and Emily did get portrayed as more boring than white on white. And this season hasn't changed that for me either. she's still mind-numbingly boring.

I agree. I didn't watch Ashley's season cause I was so pro-Emily and I just didn't like any of the other girls to be honest. I don't think Emily is boring, she's classy unlike most people that go on the The Bachelor.

and I also didn't understand why Ashley was chosen to be The Bachelorette. I don't think she's attractive (not saying she's ugly, she's ok!) and I may be mistaken, but I didn't feel like she was that popular. Even though I didn't like Chantal, I would've been ok with her being the Bachelorette cause she had a lot of fans and I never felt like Ashley had a lot of support.

This is the greatest mystery of all time. There was nothing compelling about him as a lead, and most of the contestants weren't that interesting ever. It still boggles my mind that the ratings for that season were so huge.

Like rubber-neckers to an auto accident...people love a trainwreck...that sucker was spoiled early to be a mess. People watched.

If only Twitter followers translated into ratings, eh? She's the best, most accomplished, prettiest, [add superlative here] Bachelorette of all time -- with the lowest rated season. Go figure.

That would be self defeating as 50++ has more expendable income than 20 somethings.

I was not gung ho about Ash either - I thought there were plenty of other choces from Brad 2.0 -Shawntel or AshS for example. I watched Ash and suffered through it, I watched this season knowing full well I was only doing it to be involved here and most likely wouldn't enjoy it (and frankly watched less than half the season)

I won't make that mistake again. If I don't like a lead - I won't watch. I skipped Ben's season for that very reason.

Maybe because she didn't act like a complete pathetic idiot and cried over a guy who was obviously not interest in her (actually he was interested in Emily. Go figure). As someone said in here, people love to watch a trainwreck. Hugesmile

Lol! About the demo..only 2 years to go..I wish that meant I'd be commercial, spam and junk mail free since my opinion and dollars will be meaningless. Hugesmile

With so many boomers aging out of the demo, I do wonder if they might have to adjust their way of thinking and eventually woo us again for items besides senior products.

About Emily..based on a lot of commentary that I've read..I don't think there's a ton of empathy for her plight as was anticipated. Instead, people see her as has having all of these advantages and as someone who doesn't need this show to find a husband. Thus, they question her motives for doing it especially with a child involved. Add in all of the diva, gold digger, clothing allowance, and vanity/appearance rumors and it's kind of easy to see why many can't relate to her.
